When you feel tired of the Zanzibar sun,
I recommend visiting this place.
Don't expect too much. This is a loyal style place. We will learn about the development stages of butterflies and we will be able to see and touch chameleons. Enjoy your visit :)

We spotted this from the side by the road as we drove to town and I'm so glad we stopped. The entry was really inexpensive, from memory I think it was $6 USD each. It's a local community initiative to provide income to locals and it's also interesting. They show you the different caterpillars, butterfly cocoons, and then you go into the butterfly house and can see them all flying around. They also have a number of chameleons on sight which were incredibly to see and a real highlight.

Well worth adding as part of your visit to Jozani. The guides are knowledgeable and show you all of the stages of the butterfly and explain the project. The garden itself is beautiful and then at the end you visit thr chameleon garden and get to handle the chameleons. Entrance fee goes towards maintaining the project so its all for a good cause!

Amazing stop by for children and nature lovers even if you already did walk through jozani forest before, because this stop will not take more than 30min - 1 hours. After a free explanation you are asked if you want to pay for visiting the butterfly area to take pictures. I also got the chance to see camelions because its another project. Asante sana.

Fascinating insight into the world of colourful butterflies. It was an eye opener to see real eggs and the chrysalis stages where some were even golden. The butterflies flutter and glide amidst colourful tropical flowers. The chameleon surprise at the end was an interesting twist! Wonderful for children.

I loved this place because it is so peaceful and the butterflies are just beautiful. The idea behind this is also fantastic, to create a place like this to help conserving the butterflies and their habitat while supporting the locals. I learned a lot here and my guide was amazing:) and let's not forget about the cute chameleons that you can also spot there!

The butterfly center was the most beautiful trip we did in Zanzibar. We learned a lot of new information about butterflies and the enclosure is absolutely stunning. It felt like a fairytale. They also had chameleons that you could touch, which was definitely a first and a really cool experience. All in all I 100% recommend visiting!

Make sure to visit the real Butterfly Center (the one at the main road).

It is really a nice project that provides locals an alternative to logging by contributing.

The guide was knowledgeable, kind and overall good energy.

We paid 6USD per person, which seemed fair to us.

The butterflies are beautiful and seeing them in different stages is cool.

The tour is around 45 minutes, depending on how much time you like to spend in the beautiful butterfly garden.

We had the best time visiting the butterfly center.

Itis a very unique and peaceful place. There was something truly idyllic about walking around being surrounded by all those beautiful butterflies and the sounds from the forest.

You could also tell how passionate our tour guide was about not just the butterflies but nature and animals in general.

We also love the concept or idea behind the center: promoting sustainable use of natural resources while providing extra income for the locals there.

The butterfly centre was a beautiful experience. After arrival, the guide offered a detail explanation about the life of butterflies and how the centre works.

After that, we entered the garden, which is a piece of forest with a nice fountain covered with a net, so the butterflies can wonder around without escaping. We had the chance to see the cocoons and it was wonderful to just be there and enjoy how they fly around and even, if you stay still and silent, they come and lay on you. You can remain in the garden as long as you want.

And the best part of it is that the admission fees directly support the community, training butterfly farmers and improving the region.
