So, we had a GREAT experience here. First, and most importantly the staff were friendly, informative and helpful in arranging everything we wanted.
Location was perfect, walking distance from everywhere we wanted to go.
The rooms were beautiful, well appointed, clean, and offered great views. Food was great, but for variety you could walk to dozens of great restaurants, either on the beach or in town. Kite rentals were everywhere within steps of the hotel. Planning on returning with family!

Amazing location right on the beach. Rooms are fairly basic but clean. Bed was super comfortable and the balcony has comfy chairs. The staff were all super helpful and the live music in the bar was great.

Highly recommend this as the best location on paje beach.

We didn’t stay here but came twice to the restaurant for dinner (I don’t see a listing on google for just the restaurant). It was awesome!!

Both the veggie curries were AMAZING. The tofu poke bowl was nice, the bruschetta I wouldn’t order again because it had a lot of raw garlic which was a bit harsh.

The place had friendly service and live music one night on the weekend which was fun. Great location on the beach.

This property was so dreamy. Clean grounds and views of the pool and beach from each room. Direct beach access is always a bonus. Free breakfast was a plus and the menu had great variety. The on site bar restaurant was very convenient with reasonable pricing and great vibes/music. Watching the waves, ingesting delicious flavors from the menu, and throwing back a few drinks was the perfect vacay. You'll even catch some beach performers on the sand for entertainment.
The walkabiliy factor of Mahali was also plus. A short walk to shopping, restaurants, and street food in the city of Paje. A very kind soul took me on a little evening tour which I enjoyed.

Mid December sunsets, sunrises, warm waters, and everything in-between. I felt completely relaxed and catered to at Mahali.
Elizabet, Abdullah, Leonardo, Zhana, Moody, and Clifford were always cordial with smiling faces and warm energy. These amazing staff members are a huge compliment to the property and made my stay one in a million. Give them a bonus!

OMG! Loved this place. All rooms have ocean views with large balconies. Prime location just steps from Paje beach. The bar is right on the beach with additional seating to people watch. The pool is fanastic. The rooms are large with super large bathroom and shower area it was like being at the spa. The bed was comfy and decorated for your arrival. There was one hiccup when they switched my room the balcony door was broken and a small bathroom window was missing so the air conditioner did not keep the room cool so my last might was very hot and rather miserable. The staff were helpful and nice enough. The bar staff were cool and the food at the bar was delicious!!!! If you are staying at another hotel you should stop for drinks and appetizers or dinner, a great lively place to enjoy the sea and all that Paje has to offer. It has a great vibe everyone was smiling and approachable. The Masaai and other tourist were very friendly. It is very safe, you can walk everywhere, it was very safe. The town is awesome and I prefer this area to Stone Town, Nungwi or Kendwa.

The place is awsome!!!
The vicinity of the beach, and the general positioning of the resort is brilliant!
The rooms get cleand for you everyday and after trying to find a single leaf in the pool for 5 days my mission was unsuccesful.😁😁
But honestly, the best part for me was Mahali's beach bar and restaurant.
The food is very affordable and incredbly tasty, everything we tried was fresh and delicious(My favorite was fish curry Paje😋😋).
But even after all of that goodness the thing that really did it for me,was THE STAFF.
The staff are so welcoming, lovely, fun and joyful that their vibe is so contaminating, you can't but feel happy, relaxed and full of joy.
Hat's off to everyone and hope too see you all again soon!!!😁😁😁

Exceptional location! From the amazing seaview-beachfront, to rooms’ facilities, cleaning and bar/resto services… to the kindness and gentleness of ALL employees, I only have two words: thank you! I trully recommend this hotel! Best wishes to all frond desk staff, to Leonard, Sweety, Zenna, Catherine for making us feel welcomed and amongst friends :)

We stayed here for 4 nights in probably one of the best rooms - direct beach access.
The room itself was excellent, as were the hotel facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good.
Our only critique would be that the beach access room lacked privacy on the terace. In addition, local people tended to congregate in front of the terrace and, whilst some people may enjoy this, we found it intimidating. The staff did their best to keep the terrace front clear, but this was not always possible.
We would definitely stay in this hotel again but not in the same room.

WOW, by Zanzibar standards, its going to be difficult to beat Mahali, was had the room above the bar "Zazu" which is very well furnished with a balcony with 2 sunbeds and a loft above with 2 armchairs, a double bed and several stools, so much space to relax in.
The beach is lovely white sand right in front of the hotel, the hawkers don't bother you and easy to hire a sailing boat with crew for a few dollars for a couple of hours
20 minutes up the road is the blue lagoon and if you have your own car head for the Rock restaurant and you can hire a boat to take you to the lagoon for $30 for the best snorkeling in zanzibar

We were 6 nights here. Thoroughly enjoyed our time. Very helpful and friendly staff from front desk to cleaning service and everyone in between.
Great position on the beach, supermarket 2 mins walk away. Fab views of the kite surfers.
Highly recommend this place

From the accommodating staff to the central location of the resort right on the beach, this place is just fantastic. It has an amazing vibe which will never bore you. We stayed there for 5 days and we enjoyed every moment of our stay with Mahali’s hospitality. Definitely recommend this place if you’re visiting Zanzibar and looking for a budget friendly place with a constant entertaining vibe.

We stayed here for 5 nights in March after Safari in a room floor room over the ocean.

The owners are a lovely Dutch couple and the manager Hamis on the front desk deserves a special mention.
, he is the most helpful member of staff, says good morning every day and remembers all guests Names and helps with any requests. I got stung while diving and he helped me with vinegar from the kitchen.

The room was huge with very comfortable bed and separate storage space with big bathroom. The room is slightly worn around edges but it’s not a problem. Air con isn’t very strong.

Beach sun loungers are very comfortable and plenty of space around the pool.

The restaurant food isn’t that great, we only ate there twice but there are lots of local options around. Breakfast is quite repetitive but eggs, fruit all fine.

Staff are all friendly and helpful.

Beach is very beautiful.

I left some trousers in the room when I left but they could not find which was disappointing.

Overall would recommend :)

Perfect location and Boutique hotel! Right on the beach AND since the sun loungers are on a raised area of sand you don’t get disturbed by any beach sellers while you relax. Felt very safe with subtle security staff too so we confidently left our stuff on the sun loungers while we both went in the sea together! The pool was perfect, large and right on the beach too. What a view! The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and even gave us an extra late check out until 6pm. The beach bar food and drinks were great too and had a nice buzz in the day and the evening. The location is also great as it’s in the middle of Paje beach so quick to walk both up or down to other beach or town restaurants in the day or night. We would 100% recommend Mahali to anyone and would definitely come back to here to stay if we return.

The only tiny improvement I would suggest is for the beach bar staff to stop by the sun loungers more often to take orders as that way I would probably spend more :) but it’s my fault not for asking them to do this as they were so friendly and helpful they 100% would have done it if I had actually asked them to.

I really enjoyed this restaurant!! I visited 3 times during my stay in Paje. The wind tends to blow sand in your food if you sit close to the beach. There is very nice lounge seating right on the beach, but the vendors may interrupt your meal. I recommend sitting in the lounge seating away from the beach. You still have a view of the beach and protection from the wind and sand. Every time I visited, the staff was friendly and checked on me several times to make sure I was enjoying my food.

Excellent stay at Mahali. We were blown away by the views of the Paje beach and the close proximity - it is literally on the beachfront. It holds one of the best bars/restaurants on the beach and it is right next to some other great ones! The staff were exceptional, I did not get their names but everyone at the check in desk was so lovely and greeted us always with big smiles! We would definitely recommend staying here again. Great value for money!
