Barefoot College

I am a beekeeper in Canada so visiting a school that taught beekeeping to local people was a must do. We visited Zanzibar in March of 2023 and it was one of the highlights of our trip. The rural woman are taught beekeeping and given the equipment they need to start keeping bees. The honey they produce is bought by the College and resold. The college also teaches women to install solar lighting in rural homes allowing students to learn.

While I was searching for some local pure honey, I came on the website of Barefoot College. They help local women to harvest en sell their honey (with a varity of flavors available). I got a tour by Muhsini on the compound where the bees are and also how the production and packing is done. You have also the chance to taste some honey and buy some local honey which will support the women!
