Incredible caves. Wow. It is very dark inside so getting clear photos was a task. If you need clear footage, carry some camera lights with you. They will give you a torchlight though. The caves are a hidden gem. You have to be there to experience this wonder. I have never seen such a cave. And the rocks keep growing. Like literally germinating. The water that evaporates and drops down forms small rocks which in turn form huge rocks in the process. I was just wowed. The photos don't do that place justice. Entrance fee is negotiable. I paid Tsh5,000 and you can tip your guide.

Interesting place located near Kiwengwa city.
Entry costs 3 usd but if you are group you can talk about discount. Caves are so big and you can see bats 🦇 and 🕷

The caves are impressive and especially recommended for families! Equipped with flashlights we entered the underworld led by our guide Kassim. In addition to the stalactites, which have bizarre shapes and were partly used as a sacrificial site and may still be, he has brought us closer to the darkness and the sounds of the stalactites and of the countless cave dwellers. We have discovered several species of bats, large spiders (flagellate spiders) and large millipedes. Finally, we also slid on our bellies through the very low passage to the end of the cave. It was an impressive excursion! The visit to the caves of Kiwengwa should not be missed. Many thanks to Kassim for the great tour!

Very interesting and cheap. Would recommend having mosquite spray on your skin or covering clothing. A lot of insects in the cave.

Plenty of baths, spiders and centipedes. You have to crawl on the ground at one point, to pass to the far side of the main cave. The guide is very good.
And we saw a massive lizard 🙂

We visited the cave on the weekday, without booking in advance, in the afternoon. Without waiting ,the guide took us for a easy walk in to the caves, where we spent 30- 45 minutes .
He was educated, ready to answer our questions about caves, Zanzibar, ....
The price for 1 person was 10 000 shillings.

The caves are really nice. Not much human interference inside so you walk on natural surface almost all the way. However don't go if you're not a fan of bats, spiders and centipedes. A lot of them there. Bats make amazing sounds. Guide uses stalagmites to play music. Fee was 6000 per person and the guide was nice and he allowed us to enjoy parts of the cave in silence.

What a nice and unique experience this was! I came alone on a boda-boda (5k from kiwengwa village) and I got a one hour tour with a truly nice guide through both caves. I will never forget the hundreds of bats flying next to me, crawling through a tiny cave. It is worth it because at the end there is a shiny place with a big tree. My guide was really cool and even without much language he was able to tell me a lot of things about the caves. Of course he doesn't knew perfect English, but if you're a little open, sensitive and creative you'll get along, even if you're the only privileged educated tourist coming here.
Entrance and guide is only 10k, a tip at the end is really appreciated, and for me it was worth much more than that. Thank u and specials thanks to my guide Juma - cool guy !!!

Totally worth the visit if you're in the area. Not super well developed or maintained but doesn't take away from the experience in the slightest. You'll be in the caves for 1 hour, with a guide and torches but no other lights apart from the occasional break in the ceiling and some breathtaking sights. Our guide also gave us a musical performance on stalagmites (of course you tip him later)!
Beware, you will have bats around you at one point and you'll have to crawl for 30 secs at another point, but it's a cave, that's what you want!
A little frustrating there's no fixed price advertised but hey. We paid $4 USD each. Still reasonable and very happy to contribute to keeping this place open.
So in summary, totally worth the money and genuinely fun.

The biggest cave in Zanzibar! It was the highlight of our stay in Kiwengwa. Our guide Kassem from the cave office was very friendly and helpful.

In the cave you might find bats, spiders, some other insects but it is worth it.

Beautiful experience.

Our favorite, most unexpected experience in Zanzibar. Truly unique, private tour due to lack of tourists - would not skip. Felt like a movie with all of the bats flying around. The guide spoke minimal English, so our taxi drive came and served as the translator! Both were very nice and welcoming.

Great place with two caves. South one is around 200m long, you need to crawl for few meters and it has an open ending. North one is around 150m with dead end. We have paid USD 5 per pax, you propapbly can pay 3 and you should prepare change or tanzania shilings. You will get a helmet and a basic torch. There are a lot of bats inside and we have spotted no water to dive in. Caves are huge with high ceilings. Visiting both caves will take around 1 hour. Prepare to get dirty!

The welcome was a bit awkward, as there is no sign whatsoever of price or anything. But the visit is worth whatever the price you have to pay that day. Scary immersion in some deep cave is an experience I recommend everyone to have at least once.
Off the beaten tracks for sure!

A bit hard to find but beautiful to visit. A hidden pearl of Kiwengwa. Inside the cave there are a lot of bats and interesting spiders. Surely stop by if you happen to be around the area.
