Amazing stay in Zanzibar - Perfect location - Delicious food - Fantastic staff

We had a wonderful 4 days at Hekaya Zanzibar and we loved every minute. Perfect place to stay in Zanzibar.
Located right on the beach and only minutes away from the world famous Rock Restaurant.
Our chef prepared really delicious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The portion were very big, fresh and tasty and not expensive.
We had a fantastic staff: Jackline the manger was very friendly and helpful.
Great bartenders: Diswa was so much fun and Mohammed made fantastic margaritas.
We had a super fun Maasai dance one evening right in the lobby of our hotel.
A nice and Maasai security guard was on the property at all times. Very safe place.
We had a nice big room with AC and a porch facing the ocean.
John the gardener showed us his beautiful plants and he even made my wife a name bracelet for only five dollars.
Everything was fantastic and we really enjoyed ourselves in the wonderful clean pool.

Top stay in the area, would 100% recommend.

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, good food (big portions so we ate starters for lunch and the main dish for dinner), nice pool and beautiful ocean.
We are very happy that we chose Pingwe for our holidays - there are some restaurants and bars but the town is very quite at night, no loud music or many people trying to sell you something. You can also swim during both high and low tides.
The only thing that we didn’t enjoy was driving style of hotel’s driver.

We only stayed at Hekaya for a short amount of time (unfortunately) but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room is really pretty, big and clean. The staff is extremely friendly and polite and always available for help. The service at this hotel is simply outstanding - our room was cleaned whilst we were at breakfast, in the evening a lady would come to spray anti-mosquito spray in our room and close the curtains. The Masai also were on the premises to provide security, although we felt super safe in this lovely place at all times anyway. Gardener John takes care of all kinds of plants in the facility and was happy to give us a little tour of his work. The chef, Moses, is truly amazing - the food was incredibly good, we even had extra lunch there because of how good the food was rather than actually being that hungry.
On our last evening, the staff prepared a candle light dinner for us including a bottle of sparkling wine, as our stay was part of our honeymoon. Our stay at Hekaya sincerely was the perfect ending to our honeymoon and we are very grateful for being able to stay there.
There are also multiple trips you can do from there - we went on a snorkeling trip to blue lagoon and a star fish area which was another incredible experience.
The hotel isn't big which results in a really calm and relaxing atmosphere. There wasn't a single thing that we think needs any change.
Certainly one of the best hotels we ever stayed at!
We hope to be back some day and then will definitely stay longer.

This place really lived up to our expectations. We had the most unforgettable honeymoon we could wish for, thanks to the personal touches of the amazing Hekaya-staff. Godfrey and Jaqueline gave us a warm welcome, John showed us all of the beautiful plants and flowers in the lovely garden and the men behind the bar served us the best cocktails & food and really made us feel very special. The rooms were cleaned daily, very neatly, and every dish that came out of the kitchen tasted delicious! Staying here really feels like you're in a special piece of paradise.
The hotel is situated on a more quiet part of Zanzibar. But it offers many activities around the island that you can book last-minute. Also, you can easily take a taxi to visit the more touristy places like Paje or Jambiani, for shopping or activities like kitesurfing. Would 100% come here again.

Our stay at Hekaya was amazing! One of the best hotel in Zanzibar right on the Pingwe beach and 3min walking to the famous restaurant The Rock. We enjoyed our stay in this small familial hotel (only 5 rooms) where we were treated like family. The swimming pool facing the ocean is absolutely ideal for having a nice and chill afternoon. The garden with flowers is colourful and well maintained. Rooms are big, decorated with passion and all with an amazing sea view. Do not miss their tea time everyday with delicious cakes ! Thanks again Hekaya, we will definitely come back 😊

Hekaya is sheer paradise. Everything there is amazing: from the garden to the surroundings, including the pool, the bar and the beach, so beautiful and unique. The staff is lovely, really warm and super nice, always willing to help you at any time. All of them are very good professionals and people. They make you feel part of a family :) Rooms are big, comfy and well decorated.
On top of that, the food is delicious and the cocktails superb. I hope we can come back again. Asante sana Hekaya family ❤

Outstanding and unique Hotel. Location is perfect with direct sea access. On the seashore you can find anything man would search for.
Staff are extremely friendly, always smiling and happy to help (especially Jakoubo) and Breakfast couldn‘t be better !
The manager welcomed us in the middle of the night, always available for assistance.
Highly recommended!

Hekaya will be an unforgettable place for my wife and I after our two-night stay there in February 2020. The location is on a magnificent beach that is very peaceful compared to the better known areas we stayed in and has great views of the famous Rock restaurant as well as a superb view from the hotel of one of the most impressive sunrises we have seen. It is very close to two excellent areas for snorkelling, and there is also access to a mangrove forest, and Elena is very helpful in arranging these trips at a very reasonable price with a private boat. Elena and the other staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, service was great, and we ate two nights and for lunch, all of which were delicious meals at a good price - the homemade pasta is especially good.

Hekaya is the place to be! We had an amazing stat there, the hotel is ao cute, the staff super nice, the views amazing, the food super good!
We spent 4 days there and we would repite 100%.
I also recommend you to take the tours with them as they offer many different tours at good price.
You also have the Rock restaurant very close and it has amazing views.

Small Boutique hotel at an excellent location.Spacious rooms with large and very comfortable beds, beautiful bathroom with all the amenities.Air conditioning is a must, it worked properly.My wife has gluten sensitivity and they solved this problem without any compromise.The staff is extremely friendly and professional. Elena and Godfrey(managers) went over and beyond to solve anything we asked for. If you want to stay only at one Hotel, this is it.

Hekaya is a beautiful small and quiet hotel with wonderful staff. If you are looking for a couple of days of total relaxation, this is the place for you.
- The beach is very beautiful and still rather quiet with few options for food and drinks (can recommend Pandu Ngozi)
- There is a sandbank right in front of the hotel, which allows you to swim also during low tide after a short walk on beautiful white sand
- The staff (especially John, Celina, Erick and Elena) is super friendly and does their best to help you with any requests and wishes
- Range of activities offered by the hotel is great and at fair prices, even compared to the offers that you get at the beach. Elena will help you arrange any activities that are not part of their constant offering
- Rooms are very clean and offer beautiful views on the ocean and the sunrise (boda boda offers most privacy and best view, as it is on the top floor - the mattress was a little worn out, though)
- The whole hotel complex is very nicely laid out and well maintained
- The quality of dinner is good but we would have preferred a stronger influence of the local cuisine (even though we were surprised by the good quality of the homemade pasta - 3 courses will cost you USD25 )
- Breakfast was always good and plenty - some more variety in the fruit selection would have made it even better

We stayed at Hekaya 2021.01.22-29, and we had the most amazing holiday experience! Godfrey and Elena went out of their way to please us. They always had a smile for everyone, they we always there for us no matter what we asked for. The other staff members were equaly nice and kind, we had some nice chats with them, we loved that smile on everyone's face!

Beautiful property on Pingway beach. Walking distance to the Rock. The hosts are very helpful.

Excellent place from start to finish. Super friendly, nice staff and manager. Very personable manager called Eleno. Very clean and relaxing environment. We were supposed to stay for one night, we loved it so much we kept extending our time and ended up staying for three nights. I will highly recommend this place to anyone!

We found Paradise!
Hekaya is the most charming little boutique Hotel, right on Pingwe beach, one of the most beautifull beaches where we have ever been! Rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated and clean, with a fantastic balcony overlooking the ocean! The common areas are also very clean and we miss the cocktail of the day, prepared with all attention and care to surprise us!
But what has really touched us was the Hekaya staff! Beautifull and very kind people that pampered us and made us feel at home! Allways present with a smile in their faces! From Godfrey to John "the King", Ahmed, Amin, John the gardner with is beautiful flowers, Selina, the Masais and all the others, we have only fantastic memories! When we return to Zanzibar - and we deffinitelly will! - Hekaya will be our home again!

It’s a paradise right on the water, sorrounded by nature.
Rooms are very clean and staff is very professional. Always ready to help and provide advice on where to go and what to do.
Though there are a few restaurants around the food is very good

Since the moment we arrived to hekaya Elena greeted us with a welcome drink and sat down with us to chat, after minutes only she become our best friend, helped us with covid PCR test for the airport before checking out and made our trip to Zanzibar unforgettable, we loved the place and location, bed is comfortable and a lot of nearby restaurants, we swam in their sea and definitely in their crystal clear pool, enjoyed their unlimited breakfast, we've been in three locations around the island and surely this small heaven was the best, *Elena* really really made us feel like home, we didn't meet anyone as cool as her in Zanzibar which made our trip exceptional
