Balili Mountain Resort

Real adventure destination. Fabulous views. Great staff and food. Hot showers. 4x4 track to BMR
We did a self drive self navigated safari to Tanzania in June 2021. BMR is a Perfect adventurous traveler destination. Back packers would love it. Road to BMR required low range 4x4 in places as it was steep and rocky but was fun to drive - takes about 30 minutes! We were self driving so did not have a driver. Backpackers could even be dropped off on the main road and could enjoy walking the mountainous track leading to BMR. Spectacular views over Serengeti and Lake Victoria. It was, however, smoky while we were there, as Serengeti was busy burning sections of the National Park , so our visibility was not great but it improved after a light rain occurred in the evening. BMR camp itself was right on top of the mountain overlooking Bunda. Our room was comfortable and very clean. Showers were hot with good pressure. Bathroom newly renovated. Tea, coffee, kettle and bottled water provided in room which was great. We did not order dinner but the breakfast was delicious - lots of fresh fruit, choice of eggs, toast and pancakes. Well stocked bar fridge. Walk to the viewing platform a must - quite a spiritual experience!! Path was clear and well marked and easy to get to the top to enjoy a fabulous sunrise. Staff friendly and attentive.
Only negative: Only perhaps a little more signage on road to indicate we were on the correct road but if you are travelling with a guide this would not be a problem.

We stayed at the campsite, it was really nice. Staff is so great, really helpful and friendly. We had a great dinner at the campfire. Very tasty fish, a warm welcome after after eating tinned food at the parks. In the morning we went up to see the sunrise. Coming back we had a great breakfast with lots of fruit, bread, cake egg juice and coffee. More than great! Thanks guys!

You Can Enjoy Aerial View Of Bunda Town And Surrounding Area Including Nearby Serengeti National Park And Victoria Lake From The Top Point Of The Resort.

Spectacular panoramic views, aim to catch a sunrise or sundown from the top the hill. A hike up or ride up will be more than worth it.

Traumhafter Blick über Bunda und den Victoriasee. Ein Guide hatte uns auf die Spitze des Balili Rock geführt und wir konnten gemeinsam ein Sundowner genießen. Großartig! Beim Lagerfeuer konnte der klare Sternenhimmel bewundert werden. Die Hütten sind einfach aber gut ausgestattet. Alles sehr sauber. Das Essen super lecker. Viel Dank für die Gastfreundschaft. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Resort on top of rocky mountain surrounding Bunda town

BREATHTAKING VIEWS !!!, you can see vast Serengeti national park (east), Lake Victoria (west), Bunda town (north) ..... just amazing !!!

Resort is pretty simple, poor workmanship all around, some structures falling apart .... but because of views - just go there even for a day !!

To get there is not easy at all. If you dont have 4x4 - dont even try, especially in rainy season. There is no road leading to resort on gmaps, when you enter Bunda town from south you will have NMB bank on ur right, right after the bank turn right and follow dusty road for about a kilometer, turn right before LandMark hotel sign, 150m after you turn you will have to pay 5000 tzs per head (mountain access, acts as a voucher for paying towards whatever u spend in resort) .... and then just brace urself )) ... and drive UP.

40-50 usd/person/night incl. breakfast (breakfast is really goood), accomodation is ok (you have good pressure pumped cold & hot water which is most important, i guess).

Since ur on top of a mountain and there are various cell towers nearby - no problem with reception )). 4g Tigo, Halotel and Airtel !!

No swimming pool .... and if the place had infinity one - would change the game completely .... because apart from amazing views which u can enjoy for an hour or so ... there is nothing else to do, place might be good for people setting out to Serengeti but drawback is the hotel access.

Overall - 4 stars because of view, recommend to experience driving there and views !
