This is a special place. Dream like surroundings, you can't help but relax. Rooms spotlessly clean and perfectly positioned for views. Everything was very well organised. Staff were efficient, friendly and warm and clearly wanted guests to have a great time. A perfect place to base yourself if Gorilla Trekking, it will make an already exceptional experience truly memorable.

A magical place on the shore of Lake Mutanda. You can take a swim in the lake directly from your hut. The food is great. Local owners are incredibly friendly and helpful. There is also a very nice seating area with sofas.

What a wonderful place! The views are stunning, it is isolated and very quiet, directly on the lake. The restaurant area gives a warm feeling of chalet thanks to the wood, which might be a bit strange in the middle of Uganda but we loved it during Christmas time. Very tasty decoration anda lot of activities. The only downside is the terrible (and scary during the rainy season) dirt road, both to the gorillas to the north and from the main road from the south.

Mutanda lake Resort was great. I loved the views and my room. Everywhere had something beautiful to see. The lake, the mountains and the different little islands. The beautiful scenery and wonderful service are to die for.

It is a lovely resort right on lake Mutanda. We stayed here for our gorilla trekking (the rushaga gate is located 1,5hr away on a very bad road. If you need to start early they provide breakfast from 5:30 and pack a nice lunch which helps. People were very nice and food was excellent. Only downside, the room we stayed had a horrible smell coming from the bathroom pipes (and we forgot to mention at the owners).

This was my second time in the resort, my absolute favorite place in Uganda and one of the best place I have visited in the world. The view is breathtaking!

Like last time, the food, service and personnel were outstanding. There are lots of activities at and around the resort. It is also a great base for gorilla-, volcano-, monkey- and bird trekking in the area. The best part is the calm, it is like conditioner for the soul.

Next time coming to Uganda, I hope to have the chance coming back. I can give nothing than the best recommendations.

Mutanda Lake Resort is a MUST if you are anywhere near this area or if you plan on doing the Gorilla Trek (which is an unforgettable experience on it's own). The location of this resort, the views, the accomodations, the food are all fantastic and it's hard to imagine anything topping all that BUT somehow the staff do it.
Each and every staff member we came to meet was incredibly welcoming and kind, hospitality comes natural to these very hard working people. Eric was delightful to deal with as the manager and made sure everything went smoothly the entire stay. I can't say enough positive things about this place. You owe it to yourselves to experience it.

Lake Mutanda Lodge truly made our honeymoon last November an unforgettable experience! The staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was exceptional, and their attention to detail was truly remarkable.

Upon our arrival, we were welcomed with a bottle of champagne and a stunning bouquet of flowers, a heartwarming gesture that set the tone for our entire stay.

Words can hardly do justice to the breathtaking beauty that surrounds Lake Mutanda Lodge. Nestled amidst the rolling hills and lush greenery, the lodge offers panoramic views of the pristine lake and the stunning Virunga Mountains. Every morning, we woke up to the sight of the sun casting its golden hues across the water, and it felt like a dream come true.

The lodge itself is a haven of tranquility. The spacious and elegantly designed rooms provided a perfect sanctuary for relaxation and privacy. The comfortable bed, luxurious amenities, and stunning views from our private balcony added an extra touch of magic to our honeymoon.

Lake Mutanda Lodge also proved to be the ideal base for our gorilla trekking adventure. The proximity to the gorilla trekking starting point was incredibly convenient, allowing us to maximize our time with these majestic creatures and immerse ourselves in the beauty of the surrounding rainforest.

Everything about Lake Mutanda Lodge exceeded our expectations. We plan to go back!

The only fancy experience of our Ugandan journey was also one of the very best, given the mesmerizing views on Lake Mutanda, the always-available staff and the delicious dinners. We'll definitely recommend it.

Superb! The luxury rooms are spacious, tastefully furnished and have an incredible view over the lake and the Virungas. The food was really delicious and of good standard. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The setting is stunning and just spending time at the resort is already a treat. Personally found it a bit far from the gorilla trekking starting point, but highly recommended for a stay before or after. Come here for some serious relaxation.

A lovely resort in a beautiful location. It was very peaceful waking up to the view of the lake and mountains from our bed.
The staff and food were highlights of our stay here. The ladies working in the restaurant area had great senses of humour and Simon was an excellent guide, very knowledgable during our lake and community tour.
The atmosphere at the lodge in the evenings was perfect, with a lovely fire, and the staff were kind enough to clean our boots after the gorilla hike and dry them by the fire in the evening.

It was also appreciated that one of the managers, Cindy, introduced herself at the beginning of our stay. This was a nice touch that we didn't receive at other lodges.

We wish we could have stayed longer!

We had a great stay at Mutanda Lake Resort last week. The room(14) was big and had a great view of the mountains and lake. The food was very good and tasty. I enjoyed the Ugandan craft beer they was offered in the lodge. The hotel offers a number of activities for guests including kayaking and tours. I swam in the lake (water was cool but tolerable)

Mutanda Lake Resort was such a fantastic destination, and I strongly recommend staying.

My wife and I stayed for 1 week for our honeymoon, and enjoyed every moment.

The resort is run by a lovely Dutch couple called Eric and Cindy, who are both very good at responding to emails before we arrived with all our questions. They are also well liked by the local community, which is evidence of their good management.

LOGISTICS:

We flew to Kigali and Mutanda Lake Resort made it very easy to organise a safe and comfortable transfer through beautiful scenery.

Mutanda's location is an ideal base to enjoy both Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park (where we had a fantastic experience gorilla tracking) and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (where we climbed Mt Sabyinyo - the volcano whose peak is the border between Uganda, Rwanda and DRC), but Lake Mutanda is worth visiting in its own right and there is plenty to do here.

ACTIVITIES:

Most people seem to stop off at Lake Mutanda as part of a tour to see gorillas in Bwindi, and only stay for 2 nights, but it is definitely worth staying longer here - it has so much more to offer than just a gorilla stopover.

The lake is safe for swimming - it's hippo and croc free (too cold for crocs, but is still a lovely 21°C, and hippos have all been hunted out). We swam daily and it was beautiful.

We did the bird tour early in our stay, which was absolutely brilliant, and then meant that we could identify the many many birds we saw throughout the rest of our stay, including when we used the paddle boards and kayaks. The bird life at Mutanda is incredible.

We did one walk with a guide, and after this we had the confidence to go on many self-guided walks, including a beautiful walk to Lake Mulehe.

There is also a small local museum made by a lovely old man with good English, where he is trying to capture the traditional local culture - it was basic but interesting. He didn't try to charge us any money, and seemed to be genuinely motivated by a desire to preserve the memory of the culture, so we bought some of his traditional handmade crafts for very reasonable prices (papyrus baskets and fishing cones that we will use as lampshades) instead.

ACCOMMODATION:

Our stay was very comfortable with good beds with mosquito nets (although there are very few mosquitoes), hot showers, flushing toilets etc etc. I can't fault the facilities. We stayed in the standard rooms, and the luxury rooms looked even more fabulous. The lodges are beautiful and have good privacy.

The staff are all brilliant - they are welcoming, accommodating and kind. They are always available, and Eric and Cindy are also very approachable and available.

The food was also delicious - there is a fixed menu for evening meals, and you can choose from vegetarian or meat. The vegetarian lasagne was potentially the nicest lasagne I've ever had, as was the chocolate torte. Breakfast and lunches were also very good. Wine is also available at similar prices to, if not a little cheaper than, restaurants in the UK.

SUMMARY:
Overall, I have nothing negative to say about Mutanda Lake Resort. We absolutely loved our stay, and strongly recommend staying here. Lake Mutanda is worth visiting in its own right and we easily spent a whole week there.

My friends and I were on a trip to go see the gorillas and the Mutanda lake resort was the best place to stay if you decide to go gorilla trekking in Mgahinga national park. They offer a lot of activities like paddle boarding, a boat and cycling tours and board games. I personally just enjoyed the view and the peace and quiet of the lake ;) but it is so great to have the options.

The road to get there is a little bit rocky! so make sure to have a solid car :)

The food was excellent and the staff very very friendly and welcoming! Great experience.
I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

Thank you Eric and Cindy for the stay.

Sitting at our last dinner at Mutanda Lake Resort and wishing we were staying longer. We have been treated as family (even thought we are from the USA) since we arrived. Simon especially has provided us such amazing service and we have loved our conversations with him. We hope to be back some day!

Cindy & Eric are very friendly and helpful hosts. We had a bit of a hassle after having to leave early, they helped us setting everything up!

The lodge itself is also great. You are staying on a little peninsula on a beautiful lake! Amazing views out of the rooms! The deluxe was cozy and spacious!

We stayed here for the gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The room was so beautiful and comfortable, with nice and relaxing surroundings. Extra points to the kitchen, since all our meals were extremely tasty. (Fell in love with the Rolex thanks to you!).
Staff was very kind and funny and we had lots of fun.

The road to get there is a bit difficult, and could be very complicated to drive it during rainy season, so get a good car an get up very early - you don't wanna miss your trekking!

After the tough gorilla hike we relaxed our feet in the lake with the fantastic view of the volcanos. Perfect ending for a perfect day 💙
