This place is such a cool find. We live about an hour and 40 mins away. We took a drive out the Coudersport pike and ended up the whole way out in Austin but it was WELL worth it. I never knew this place existed. The campground is perfect for a weekend getaway. It's clean, peaceful, tons of wildlife and you can tell the community really cares about this place!!

The dam collapsed in 1911 killing many innocent people, it's a good place to teach your children about hidden history of PA homeschool parents this is a MUST for a day field trip!

The park is definitely worth the stop if you're in the area. The park is nice and well maintained. The ruins of the dam are really cool, with a bit of local history (and some lessons on how not to build a dam). The huge chunks of aggregate in the concrete says a bit about how poorly engineered this thing was.

If you enjoy seclusion this is a great place to go camping and enjoy the beautiful yet tragic remains of an old dam.

Nice place to explore if you're in the area. The campground here is basic but quiet and a good place to spend the night.

A stark reminder of why you should never cheap out on building material. A historical staple of history that should be seen by all.

Share in United States Dam history, Austin Dam park is a great place for a nice hike and to check out some cool scenery. There is a memorial at the park for those who perished in the flood. Plus I believe Austin Dam Park holds a music festival during the summer. Worth the drive!

Great park, campground and history lesson tucked into rural Pennsylvania. Lots of wildlife around. Saw a beaver in the stream.

Saw this hidden gem while driving along Rt. 872 in Potter County, PA. The woman that manages the place was very kind and very knowledgeable about the history of the dam. Definitely worth a look.

15/10 I'd say. The volunteers that run the place are amazing, we met John and he was fantastic. We were there just as it was about to close so he stopped us to see what we were doing and was a great person. We chatted for a while and ended up holding him up but I can say for sure they're good people. The dam is still standing, and there are many seating areas with great views of it, the road to get down there is quite long but totally worth it. I definitely recommend walking around there's a foot path through to the other side of the dam where you can see how high the water sat. Its very cool and they also have an area where there's old pictures and a bunch of information about the dam before it broke. There's plenty of cabins and camping which can be expensive but if you're a member it's only 10 dollars to camp in a tent for the night. Very kid friendly, and seems to be dog friendly too just keep them leashed and pick up after them. The ruins are very well maintained you can tell they take pride in them. Don't forget to visit the old bayless papermill that's about 10 minutes to drive and a really cool (kinda creepy) stop when you're in the area.

The actual dam structure really makes one think of this tragedy, however the day we visited was a bad day. There was some kind of festival going on which blocked the area in front which I guess where one would park. They wanted $25 to enter. With what was left to get close to the dam was very difficult to get there. It just might be the most non visitor friendly attraction I've ever been to. I'll try another day. Edited: Thanks for the nice explanation that caused questions on visiting. We will return for a visit and THANKS again.

Great experience. Trails are well maintained even for being end of winter early spring. There are a couple roads in. The one with the big sign for the park is much better.

Interesting piece of Potter county history. Drive along and there it is sticking right out of the trees. There is a memorial to those that perished during the flood and a gift shop. There are camp areas, plenty of hiking trails, and pets are welcome. There is a music bandstand for artists to play their tunes. There is no cost to enter the dam park.
