Very quiet peaceful swamp area. Towards the end of the 15 min trail there is a bench you can sit to stare at the lake. Many tree branches are covering the lake though. Luckily no gators today. All the birds hide in the trees so it was hard to capture photos but they did make lots of sounds 🤓 bring mosquito spray because there plenty of those!!!!

Didn’t see any visible birds 😔 maybe because it’s been raining. I had to drive out to Trinity River instead.

Fabulous trip! 2nd visit. Didn’t realize there was a visitor center in Anahuac, too. Don’t miss it! Worth the extra time.

Loved walking out thru the swampy waters to the Bay on a beautifully kept deck and small trails to discover small wildlife. We didn't see much, but it's an ecosystem that you can sit on the benches along the way and watch out for nature to take place.

I went to the Anahuac NWR to purchase a National Park pass and discovered a place I never knew was there. I really enjoyed the visitor center and the people were so kind and helpful. The weather was bad with rain and lightning so I did not get to see much, but the visitor center was top notch. I really enjoyed my visit and I will be back for sure.

A wonderful experience every time we go. Despite significant damage from Ike and Harvey, it is still a great location to see wildlife. Recently we saw thousands of snow geese and several nutria and even though they are an introduced species, not native they were fun to watch.

It's not the largest park, but as a citizen of anahuac I visit almost daily to walk my dog. They have a wonderful pier that extends into a cypruss bayou as well as a photo blind for taking candid pictures of the wildlife. My only request is please do not litter!!
