People are ready and available upfront till 8am, no tvs in the rooms but this mostly is for sound and light pollution reasons. Cute place, my partner is into ghost and seemingly this place is haunted? Fun stay regardless 😊

Internet connection is provided and has nice skylights in the showers andain hotel. If you are trying to get to Death Valley, especially during this time of year when it's cooler, I would recommend the Opera House. Much much cheaper than the hotels in the valley and only about a half hour drive there.

I went for the tour and it blew my mind! Such a talented eccentric who turned this place into a work of art inside! You would never know driving by as it looks deserted. The photos here are just the lobby which is nothing compared to inside the opera house. Well worth the stop!

5 stars for the tour. Rooms would probably rank as a low 3 high 2 from average folk, but it is a historic building without TV. They have a great library you can borrow from as you stay. Read a little of the Secrets of US Presidents.

DO NOT MISS THIS MAGICAL PLACE! Especially take the tour!! Currently it’s only $15, $10 if you’re a guest at the hotel. Found on a whim while venturing to Death Valley NP. This place feels like stepping back in time. 16th century Europe vibes, and incredible place of art by Marta Becket.

The building is just turning 100 years old, so of course it’s not going to be your latest/greatest with full amenities, but the experience I had here (ended up staying 2 nights, taking tour twice) was one of the coolest experiences I’ve had. Made some new friends and already planning my return visit.

Rustic hotel with lots of character. Beautiful old features throughout. Staff was friendly. Tiny town near Death Valley. If you’re looking for something spotless and new not the place for you. I love older homes and their imperfections so I didn’t mind it! Would stay again.

My mother's family helped get this place up and running back in the 60's with Martha. I have some old family videos of this place being worked on by my grandpa and his family. My mother used to play up in the attic of the hotel.
This place isn't luxury, as mentioned in other reviews, but this place is a piece of history and artwork, hard work and endurance from those who built it, and then rebuilt it to become what it is today. The exterior is deceiving when you go into the opera house. It's like walking into a different building. You wouldn't expect to see that theater in that type of building. I got to meet Martha once years ago. We used to stop by the Amargosa whenever we would travel to Death Valley. It's definitely worth the visit and the tour.

My wife and I took a great day trip from Las Vegas to Amargos Valley, about 30 miles from Death Valley National Park; to see this beautiful floor to ceiling Mural Painted opera house. We took the tour which was $15 a person and I, being an artist, was amazed by the color of the paintings that encompass the whole hotel and especially the opera house. Highly recommended for historical buffs, artists, photographers, and off the beaten path adventurers. The hotel was affected by flooding this past year and are still working to restore a few of the rooms and areas that received over 9” of water. The hotel does show its age with a lot of peeling paint on the exterior and interior of some of the rooms as well as parts of the opera house itself. Check it out , totally worth it, and support this Gem in the desert with a visit.

We saw a great show (the Tango Cowboys). The ambience & history of the place is outstanding! Did not stay at the hotel but they hosted a nice reception after the performance.

This is a 5 star experience at a 2 star hotel. The 100 year old hotel needs lots of TLC, but it is a marvelous historic site run by a nonprofit trust so the money goes to a good cause. We really enjoyed the tour of the Opera House.

A very beautiful historical and self-meaning place for our family it was the beginning of the spreading of our son's ashes we just lost a few weeks ago, we did a 10-hour motorcycle ride with about 40 MCs the procession was a tribute to his favorite ride with his father side by side. All those since then I've learned a little bit more about the Amargosa Opera house, it's got quite the history very interesting.

This place is cool as hell!! We loved our stay here and the staff were super helpful. The hallways smell a little bit like sewage but honestly I don’t care.

Interestingly every time I have ever passed this place I never realized it was an operational hotel. I've not seen cars or people - other than a few like us who stop and snap a few photos. Now that I know it is a hotel I have to stay here on one of my trips to Death Valley.

OK so I may have posted about this place but it’s a pretty amazing old place. If you’re anywhere near Death Valley National Park, you have to come here.

The hotel rooms are straightforward and basic and a little bit dated but that is the allure of this place. To be drawn back in time for a moment, and experience things, and a little simpler format.

The story and the artwork is something to be admired, and understood. I’ll include a few photos, but you have to come to this place and see it and admire all the work of one amazing woman.

If you are seeking a quaint, historical yet comfy spot in between everywhere you’d want to visit in the desert, this is perfect. The staff was friendly, the room was even cleaner than I expected, and the hotel and opera house are beautiful and historical. I did a lot of research into the area/hotel before going which made it even more special. Most everything is in near original condition, so of course with that comes peeling paint, old pipes and drafty rooms but is all so interesting and original that it didn’t matter to me. The bed was a little hard for my taste but clean and warm. Water was a little spotty, either really hot or cold and the water was soft so it felt slippery but that’s old pipes and a desert town! Don’t count on service or the WiFi working, just turn off your phones and play a game or take a rest! And make sure you tour the opera house before you go. The Longstreet Inn up the road has pretty good food and a small store, and the nature preserve nearby was also a must see. I will absolutely stay here again and recommend to anyone. 😊

An unusual place, historic, and significant to the area. Rooms were plain, furniture dated, and a bit run down, but the sheets were clean, and the bathrooms were spotless. No amenities in room such as tv or coffee, or fridge. There are large communal fridges.
The staff was accommodating, and exceptionally friendly.
I would like to see security latches inside doors, and there weren't any.

If you're looking for more than just a place to stay, this hotel is a must-see. The venue is a beautiful showcase of a life and work of Marta Becket - there are guided tours available every day at 9am and 6pm ($10 per person). As for the stay, the rooms capture a spirit of a different time, but they are well maintained and clean, as well as have an AC. You might have heard that this hotel is haunted from some TV shows, however don't let that to be a discouragement from staying here. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to visit again.

I made a quick stop on my way through Death Valley National Park. Although I didn't stay as a guest this time, I was able to tour the lobby and learn some additional history. The two ladies at guest service were delightful, helpful and friendly. Amargosa Opera House Hotel will definitely be a future overnight stopover.

What a place!! From the outside it looks like something from an old Western, and inside it has fewer amenities than the resorts in Death Valley itself, but we loved our stay at the Amargosa Opera House, and will never forget the story behind it. It was originally a barracks for workers at the borax mine nextdoor, but things connected to the war effort for WWII resulted in the mine closing, the barracks being abandoned and Death Valley Junction becoming a ghost town. Until in the 60’s, when a dancer from New York named Marta Becket came through and had a vision — she would turn the forgotten structure into a theatre, where she’d put on shows for whoever might pass through this desert wilderness on their way to who-knows-where. Marta was a fascinating figure, and the Amargosa gives a tour every morning to any guests interested in this odd place in the upper Mojave that she turned into a world of her own making. So glad we went here.

Fantastic stay for what it is!

The room was very clean, powerful AC, great water pressure, 7 minutes to the NV border (inexpensive gas/food)- exactly what I was looking for after a day exploring Death Valley. It’s a historic building, so the rooms/communal areas are a bit rough around the edges and we could hear our neighbours. But all in all, it really was a great hotel experience, especially at the price point.

Definitely recommend the tour- the hotel manager was so lovely and shared SO much interesting info about the property’s history, and the opera house itself is worth checking out.

Honestly I had a really great stay here. It definitely a little on the older side, but it's clean and the blankets are very warm. I liked all the little decorations and historical tid bits, and it was very quite and relaxing after a long day. It doesn't have a TV or anything, but I actually really loved the little lending library they had.
