This place is great. They let you smoke cigarettes. They have group therapy. And an awesome crowd that keeps it running. Alex was such a blessing. Keeping smiles on our faces and Ashley was fantastic with group therapy.

I am an RN who works and has worked in several behavioral settings. Flint River Hospital is also Riverside Treatment Center, with medical and behavioral settings. Would like to comment on some of the negative criticism expressed by a couple of reviewers. One comment states patient "held against will", this is true of most behavioral admits here and elsewhere. Patients are judged by an ED MD, judge, or officer of the law to be a danger to themselves or others and as such are not allowed to leave until cleared by a psychiatrist, vastly different from a medical admit where the patient may freely leave against medical advice.
Another comment concerned limited "visiting hours". Yes they are here and at most behavioral facilities, in fact, some have no visiting hours at all. Again this is for the safety of all concerned. This limits the possibility of contraband items being entered into a facility. Also this is a very unstable population and it is difficult to ensure the safety of visitors in facilities such as this.
With regards to the direct care staff and nursing, as an experienced nurse I can honestly say this staff is as dedicated, knowledgeable, and caring as anywhere I have worked.

My daughter was involuntarily committed this past week...after being in another facility a month ago...she was hurting herself to deal with her pain and not able to sleep. The facility itself is dated and run down but very clean. The computer doctor diagnosing and prescribing medication has his own personality defects that don't show understanding or compassion as told to me by my daughter. This being said...I have to say the direct care staff and counseling staff (particularly Emmanuel) and nurses (Ms.Mary and Ally..thank you again) were ones in charge of my daughters case also the numerous others I spoke with ...were superior to any I've ever encountered at these places. They were very patient, kind and spoke with great empathy towards my daughter and how they dealt with me as a family member. These situations are highly emotional for all concerned and they were firm but injected humor and compassion where needed. My daughter who is picky about food said it was very good. While my deepest pray is that I'll never have to encounter one of these places again...I'm glad it was here and not the last place she was placed. That facility while located in a picturesque setting by beach and a beautiful building was a horrible environment that showed no empathy or care toward their patients or their families. My daughter came out worse than when she went in...she had side effects from meds they prescribed and hallucinationated for three days as she detoxed from them. We had never experienced anything like this before. It was horrific. So I thank God for Riverside and Flint River hospital and my sincere gratitude for the loving care you all gave my baby. Thank you again. **Side note the only reason I rate at a four because the building itself is in need of renovations. In the scheme of things that is not important...I would rate 4.75 if I could. Hope this helps...as everything in life..our experience could differ from others but I am offering an honest opinion based on our experience.

Very concerned by these reviews. So far I've been snapped on by the nurse who answered the phone and pretty much ignored when it comes to updates regarding my daughter who is currently there.
She describes it as bad as county jail.

First, let me begin by saying that the sole reason Riverside treatment center is getting two stars and not only one is because they have medical and psychiatric doctors evaluating the patients daily. My boyfriend who battled Ewing's Sarcoma(bone cancer) is a patient at this facility currently. The only visiting hours allowed are from 3-5 on Saturdays. We arrived for visitation today only to find that the patients were nearly all walking around the hospital with no socks or shoes on. Staff had been taking the patients out for smoke breaks five times each day. The only way patients are allowed outside is during that time. Staff members have been giving my cancer survivor, unstable boyfriend who is currently unable to think for himself cigarettes 5 times a day!!! We have been calling to check on his condition and only get about 2 minutes to talk each time. Today, we asked to speak to his nurse and we're given someone who told us that he is not even his patient. The lpn we spoke with was finally able to update us as to what meds he had been given(he has been there since Thursday and we have been trying to find the out since). What staff I have met have been significantly less professional than what you would want for someone you care about. While it is a clean facility, which I was happy about, I do not recommend you send your loved ones here unless you have no other choice(which is the situation we were given). They will give them a roommate who will(at least in our case) only further upset them. Please, heed this warning, and do not let a loved one be stuck in a place like this.

This was one of the worst experiences of my life .We had a family member sent here .We could never get anywhere with the staff on the phone .They barley answered and when they did they gave us no updates other then "she's about the same". She ended up falling which is something that happens and is sometimes out of our control I understand that .But two days after she falls she's good to come back home ?Coming home she had no idea who any of us were and she was fully aware when she left .she's also a type two diabetic but came home with half a ton of honeybuns. She was also not clean when she got home. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.
