This was one of the most fabulous locations I have ever wandered around. You pay an entrance fee one - at the West Gate I think - and then pretty much everything inside is covered. Even ignoring the main attractions, just walking around the old city is spectacular with amazing architecture and views. It also felt remarkably safe and I walked solo both early morning and late evening, something I have learned to be wary of in European cities.

Charming Khiva is a journey back in time. The ancient city's vibe is captivating, with its stunning architecture and rich history. Walking through the narrow streets feels like stepping into a fairy tale. A must-visit!

There is a ticket sales near the Ota Darbaza. There you can buy a pass to the all sights all at once. We bought one adult and two child for only 10$. On holiday days the price is even lower and sometimes the same ticket can be used next day.

One of the most magical ancient cities I've had the privilege of visiting. The loud music and street stalls detract somewhat from the authenticity of the place, but it is still a surreal experience walking around and soaking it all in. It is even more mesmerising at night when the landmarks are lit up. Definitely spend a couple of nights in Khiva if you can.

NB: The 3-tier ticket system I'd read about online is no more. The entrance fee is now a standard 150,000 UZS for foreigners plus an additional fee if you want to climb up the minarets or city walls. The Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum is not included in the ticket and costs an additional 25,000 UZS to enter.

One cannot believe one's eyes
The place is one amazing site after the other one, a new discovery behind every corner. Do not miss a walk at night!!! Wished the place was not crowded by hundreds of souvenir stalls, though.

Khiva is amazingly well preserved city. It is living history, like Rome, Cairo, Isfahan, and Athens. It is best kept history of Asia. The best historical cityin Central Asia.

The whole walled city of KHIVA is a big overwhelming museum. Mosques, madrasas, mausolea, minarets. Also columns, ceilings, and a camel. More varied beautiful blue tiles than can be believed. And hundreds of carved wooden columns.

Awesome preserved old town, the entree is expensive 15€ as most of the museum (although in old madrassas) aren't interesting for Western standart, also no map or entree list is given. Some of the buildings where closed. But still an awesome experience.

Considered as UNESCO World Heritage Centre.

The old town retains more than 50 historic monuments and 250 old houses, dating primarily from the eighteenth or nineteenth centuries. Djuma Mosque, for instance, was established in the tenth century and rebuilt from 1788 to 1789, although its celebrated
hypostyle hall still retains 112 columns taken from ancient structures.

The most spectacular features of Ichan Kala are its crenellated brick walls and four gates, one at each side of the rectangular fortress. Although the foundations are believed to have been laid in the tenth century, present-day 10-metre-high (33 ft) walls were erected mostly in the late seventeenth century and later repaired.

Citadel city which the majority part of it remained intact. Highly suggest to the people who are visiting Samarkand and Bukhara to check by Old Khiva as well.
You will feel that the time has stopped there and able to experience the real mood of XIXth century. Reminds the city from Aladdin movie.

Make sure you stay in the old town. It has a romantic feeling at night when it gets quieter. The locals are very nice too.

Khiva is a city of masters. It is interesting to wander through the streets of the old town, Ichan-kala. Have a leisurely conversation with a merchant and, having tea in a teahouse, enjoy the views of ancient architecture

It's an open air museum! Best sunset view spot is not Kuhna Ark tower on the wall but cafe in the city called "Terrasa" it is 3 floor building with a rooftop terrace where your sunset experience will include a bit of the inner city as part of the scenery + friendly service + good food and delicious tea:)
The rooftop terrace is getting quite full around the sunset time, so if you want to have a seat come in advance or book a day ahead!

A majestic city in the middle of the Karakum desert with it's fascinating monuments. Have visited Khiva numerous times and since I am a Google local guide from 2018 with pride I want to publish thispost. My ancestors dwelled around this beautiful and ancient city which has long lasting history some filled with peaceful years or existence and some with years of war. The city has been rebuilt numerous times.
Also I have taken photos of the threes which is my passion.

Outstanding place. The look and feel is if you are taken back in time. In the vending be sure to book a table in one of the terrace restaurants for fabulous night views of the ancient city.
