This meticulously preserved area features ancient tombs, offering a breathtaking vista of the canyon that extends into the distance. The peculiar, Martian-like soil adds an extra layer of fascination to this intriguing location.

A well-maintained area with ancient tombs, a stunning view of the canyon stretching far into the distance, and the Martian-like soil (a reddish hue) make this place even more intriguing. If you have the time and desire, you can climb higher, from where the monastery looks incredibly beautiful against the backdrop of the mountains.

Have been in the monastery 20 years ago and very recently. Every visit feels the same energy and high satisfaction. The place is very positive the road is leading to the top between Rocky Mountains and once reaching the destination it feels unbelievable and exciting

The journey to this place was more enjoyable than the place itself. The roads are very good, the scenic beauty of the place was amazing. There is washroom, souvenir shops and parking. The place is clean and worth a visit.

Noravank Monastery is a beautiful 13th-century monastery located in a narrow gorge, surrounded by tall, sheer cliffs. With stunning architecture and intricate carvings and reliefs and place has all total different vibe.

The road to noravank is amicable and goes b/w mountains. It has washroom and souvenir shop. No ticket needed.

There were some small shops however I would recommend to bring snacks and water.

Impressive place to visit. 1,5 hours driving from Yerevan and that was worth it. Located in the end of the gorge, around 1300m above sea level. All history you can easy find on Wikipedia.

Not very big but beautiful. Two churches. One church is two floors. The ground floor is a bit buried under ground. Inside is beautiful with a rounded opening to the sky, through which light rays comes in. Amazing ambiance. Never saw it anywhere before. I wish I could go in the evening or morning again.

One of the more different looking monasteries in Armenia. First, because it is made of some almost red rocks. Second, because it has two floors (but only one is accessible.

Besides that, you can also find two smaller buildings on the hills next to it, and a smaller churck-like building.

It is worth climbing the hill on the back of the monastery. The trail is rather short, but a bit difficult (so I wouldn't suggest it for elderly people, for example). But the view is worth the walk.

Noravank was built 13 centuries ago! The monastery stands majestically in the gorge of the river Arpa, and in the gorge, makes the view even more impressive. The exceptionally magnificent landscape surrounding the two ancient churches and the chapel attracts tourists from all over the world.

Located in the Vayots Dzor region, it’s a lovely ride through Gnishik Canyon to reach Noravank Monastery. This natural setting enhances the beauty of the monastic complex, and it also adds to the sense of seclusion and spiritual contemplation associated with monasteries. Along the driveway, you will see many caves in the canyon.

Noravank Monastery is situated in a gorge and just like other monastery in Armenia it has a very lovely surroundings.
The main Church has two floors which you can reach the upper level by the steep path in front of the Church, however, (unfortunately) when we visited this July 2022, it is not allowed to go up anymore. Hopefully, they will think of something how to safely go up the second level.
We enjoy the picturesque surrounding and seeing the red canyons.
Its worth the travel and highly recommended for all.
