Well worth the visit, took the audio guide in English and enjoyed the descriptions of art inside the library, it took me almost three hours to see all the available exhibitions including the Natural History one. Well organised and informative

One of the great libraries in the world. Not just the old books but the incredible architecture and painting and secret doors and stairways! This is about three hours from either Vienna or Salzburg. There are tours but I find it better to go right before or right after a tour. You might get lucky like we did and have the place to ourselves! And the docent was awesome and gave us a private tour detailing all the amazing facts about the library. Books can even be reserved for private viewing if you have time and can apply. In the gift shop on the way out try some wine! Free tasting! Made by the monks at their vineyards in Slovenia a few hours to the south.

Extraordinary place to visit for you and your family, apart from that beautiful architecture and garden with lake and beautiful mountains view, there is the famous library, nature museum, art museum and a wine shop.

Traveled a long way to see this place. One of many... worth it!!! I was very fortunate to have it to myself for a bit in peak summer months at that. Going later in the day seems to make better photo ops. Gorgeous library.

This is a beautiful space and time in history where a high forms of art manifests into reality. The library collection includes theological articles as well as academic topics such as medical and law. The architectural styles of the baroque and enlightenment eras are evident throughout the library. Be aware that to preseve the books the library is temperature controlled meaning that it is freezing in there. Such a wonderful and educational experience

The library is amazing as you can see from the stunning photos, a really must see and unique place if you have the chance to get to the village
The place offers additional museums too and I really recommend the natural history Museum which includes lots of specimens
Ticket is about 14€ per person, or about 8€ for students, you can get an audioguide for 4€ (prices in 2022)
The little shop at the exit is nice and you can also buy some food from the Abbey like liquors and biscuits

Amazing visit to the library and the exhibitions. The ten bucks are worth it!

You get to see a lot and Laura, the receptionist/librarian, answered to many of our questions engaged and in great detail!
Definitely ask to see the secret door 😉.
The surroundings of the museum are worth to see! Totally recommend.

An amazing sight to see!

It’s not that easy to get to. It took me 2 trains and 1 bus from Vienna. Although there is a direct train on the weekends (check ÖBB website).

After you open the door, the first sight feels like heaven.

It also houses a collection of ancient manuscripts, along with a medieval museum.

Well worth visit!

It's not so easy to get to this little village at the center of the country, and the rest of the abbey is not particularly interesting (sorry) but to visit this library is worth everything. One of the most beautiful libraries in the world. Surrounded by all this white on marble and wood it makes you feel like you're in heaven.

The Abby was build in 1076 and with that is the longest occupied monestery in the county of Styria.
It houses the largest monastery library in the world at least size wise, it shows emarkable cupola frescoes, the late Baroque library hall commissioned by Abbot Matthäus Offner (term of office: 1751 – 1779) was finally completed in 1776. It was riginally designed in 1764 and constructed in the following years by the Austrian master builder Josef Hueber (1715 – 1787).

We had booked a tour through the library. The tour guide was magnificent, the library is stunning as well - but what surprised us most (in a positive way) were the additional museums that offered great artwork and were well worth the visit by themselves. We loved every minute, thank you for the experience!

In Austria, this baroque library is second only to the imperial one in Vienna, which means that it is a must-see. Our guide - an art student - provided the history of the monastery and fine explanations of the beautiful ceiling frescoes and the elaborate sculptures of the Four Last Things. The museum is also worth visiting; don't miss the painting of the Damsel of Castle Strechau!
