Ski Zillertal 3000

I resided in Finkenberg, a nice quiet alternative to Mayrhofen which is perfectly linked to the ski area. The gondolas take you right up to Penkenjoch. Arriving there at 8:15 (no lines) upon opening you can enjoy your first ski runs on the fresh groomed slopes 48, 49 (scenic view) and 55. The ski area can be divided into the main Penken/Mayrhofen area, Rastkogel, Eggalm, Hintertux and Ahorn.
All these areas are connected, only Ahorn and Hintertux are seperated from the main ski complex and you need a bus (for free every 10-15min) ride to get there. Navigation throughout the areas was easy. If you're there for 1 day I recommend doing the Gletscherrunde tour which goes through all areas. You'll find runs for every skill. The runs tend to get crowded (especially the connections) and start having moguls at 1pm
I had the 6 day super zillertalpass which was a great deal (~330€)

Penken/Mayrhofen:
So first to note is, that there is no valley run leading back to town, so dont miss the last gondola down. Also the valley isnt snow covered that often. On the mountain though snow conditions are very good. The Penken area circles around a large bowl and you have easy to very steep runs like the Harakiri (avoid if you hate steep icy runs). You should definitely check the runs on Schneekar and the fun park in the bottom of the bowl.

Rastkogel:
Penken area is linked with Rastkogel via the large 150er Tux cable car, where you totally get packed in with 150 people and can be a bottleneck. The nice long 66 takes you back to Penken. Also Check out the viewpoint Wanglspitze. Else the Rastkogel area is a more gentle area with wide straight runs. A nice various valley run through the forest links you to Eggalm.

Eggalm:
This very sun facing quieter area has a scenic view towards Finkenberg. It offers interesting long valley runs with variation down to Lanersbach (or back to a lift to Rastkogel). From Lanersbach you get a bis to Hintertux.

Hintertux:
Here you ride the very spectacular Gletscherbus cable car up to 3200m. Next to skiing the mountain offers cool side attractions, like Nature Ice Palace, Spannagel cave, a view point and restaurants. The view up there is spectacular, especially towards the south, so definitely do the Schlegeis run. The Lärmstange runs are more gentle but tend to crowd. Here you also got many freeride routes. The nice long valley run Schwarze Pfanne with lots of variation leads you back down.

Ahorn:
This is a rather small area with some beginner runs and a family run on top and a nice long forest run down to Mayrhofen. Sadly that one can be very icy (and slush in the afternoon). You can start your day here since it opens before all the other areas at 7:30am.

Restaurants:
You find a good variation of restaurants. Some with self service, some with service. I recommend Spannagel Haus (very nice cosy interior and scenic), Tuxer Fernerhaus and Granatalm (beautiful inside and high quality food). Enjoy a Jagertee and their amazing Zillertal Beer. For après ski go to Mayrhofen

Schönes Gebiet, mit vielen Rundwegen die etwas unübersichtlich erscheinen. Tourismus ist eher auf Wintersport ausgelegt. Sämtliche Bahnen hatten zu. Mit den Gaststätten sah es nicht viel besser aus. Wir waren von Mutter- Vatertag.... Vorsaison

Ski supreme!

Super muss man einfach mal erlebt haben. Wir hatten 5 sonnige Tage, genug Schnee war einfach alles perfekt die 1 Woche.
