BEAUTIFUL place to stay! It is out of the way and in its own space. They have a great restaurant with yummy dinners and breakfast! The rooms are individual cabins in the rainforest which was really wonderful and private. So relaxing and comfortable. They have miles of trails/tracks on the reserve. You want to be sure to have a day to just stay on the property!

It’s a nice place to stay. The place is well maintained and the staff friendly . If you have mobility issues it would be challenging though. Thankfully we love walking and it suited us well…. But if you’re unable to walk distances or up hill then it’s not really the place for you.

If you love the idea of an off-the-grid retreat with a touch of luxury and comfort, this is it. Amazing views, staff and facilities. The photos even from their website do not do this place justice. Everything is also very clean. I highly recommend the coconut tour, very fun. Dinner was subpar but breakfast was surprisingly lovely, especially the hash. Do bring insect repellent as there was an abundance of mosquitoes.

Wow a true off grid immersive experience with our own private beach and coconut plantation and every form of nature on tap.
After spending time in Melbourne and Sydney this was my softer landing .
The tree top restaurant with a 360 degree vista of the ocean took my breath away.
The vegetables and fruit were straight from the garden to the table and so fresh and delicious .
The chef adapted dishes to my allergy. The whole team of staff were truly amazing from front of house restaurant bar and the buggy drivers.
It’s worth the air miles to come and visit again it beats any retreat I have done. I also received the most amazing massage and facial where the therapist connected on a spiritual level closing the treatment with the sound bowls . I have been in the well-being industry a long time and I have received treatments all over the world but this therapist is gifted. The only area for improvement is a pop more colour in the lodges very bland and the restaurant soft seat pads and colourful place mats to scape and add more decorum to the table. I will keep this place a secret it’s so special and not owned by a big corporate. I have found my bit of Shangri la 🙏🦋

Thank you

My partner and I stayed here two and a half years ago on our way back from the cape. Absolutely unbelievable stay. Booked last minute and had availability for one of their tree houses and it was so beautiful. Not to mention the service and the quality of there restaurant/ bar. Couldn’t recommend enough. Look forward to going back one day

Really cute and magical spot. We were worried about some reviews saying the rooms seemed a bit outdated, but honestly it has a cute cosy feel and it is super clean, so we had no complaints about the rooms. It had an amazing view and good aircon. Although the rooms are quite far from reception and the carpark, you can ask call for a buggy and they drive you around everywhere, we barely had to walk! All the staff were so friendly and helpful, they really made the stay extra special. Don’t miss out on the Coconut tour - actually was super interesting!
Only a few downsides (not really though) - we couldn’t get any internet or cell service from our rooms. Don’t count on having internet in your room, but you can get wifi in the lobby building. They also have a huge collection of books, dvds and board games you can take down to the rooms - we spent hours playing scrabble.
The dinner at the restaurant was very average unfortunately (as much as we wished to have loved it), except the starter bread they give at the beginning of dinner - this butter/vegemite spread with dukkah sprinkled on top, best thing ever.
Breakfast was a little better, but would suggest eating out somewhere else. Although most of the other food establishments in the area were not too great either so maybe only if you have your own transportation you can make a trip out to Port Douglas.

We're giving this a 5, although we thought there were a few areas for improvement, because we want this magical place to continue to exist. It is located on a private nature reserve in the Daintree Rain Forest. We had cabin 1, which overlooks the sea and the forest. There are two great nature walks, which we took and had so many wonderful experiences. We also went to the pond at 6 a.m. to see about 10 wallabys in the wild after the staff left sweet potatoes for them. The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful.

For the cost of the room, we felt the room could use a refresh. It seemed a bit dated. Also, for a resort of this caliber, the food in the restaurant should be much better. And we hope the management improves the quality of the food. (The restaurant and the bar area have amazing views). Nonetheless, we highly recommend this place.

Thala Beach Reserve was amazing. The separate cottages in the rainforest are so wonderful, the food was incredible and do not skip getting a massage! Lani gives the best massage my husband and I have ever had!

Beautiful forest and beach location with a secluded feel but still not too far from Port Douglas. Excellent helpful and friendly staff. The one restaurant is Osprey with breakfast lunch and dinner. Breakfasts are particularly delicious. Colorful lorikeets and cockatoos entertained us from the trees by the restaurant. The resort offers fun and interesting nature walks and other activities. We really enjoyed our walk with Dave, our knowledgeable nature guide. There is beautiful art of local scenery, history, and wildlife from notable local artists. Bookings to Great Barrier Reef and Rain Forests included pickups from the resort. The bed was very comfortable.

Absolutely love Thala Beach Resort we had a beautiful stay and all food drinks and amenities were great! We got the sea food hamper delivered to our room and it was some of the best sea food I have had in FNQ!

If you're from the Northern Hemisphere avoid summer you will melt. Just some healthy advice from a life time local! Australian winter is the time to come here to North Queenland. Thats when we have the best weather and you will be able to swim in the sea (Marine stingers in the summer time prevent swimming).

Make sure you grab a coconut they're ice cold and the best around!

My husband and I stayed here last year for the first time, only for a few days and it wasn’t long enough. The staff were helpful, friendly and second to none. The accomodation was clean and set out beautifully. Waking up of a morning, we were greeted by the gentle sounds of birds singing, we wandered up for breakfast at the on-site restaurant which was great, but wow, dinner was incredible. Some one the best meals we’ve ever had. We enjoyed some of the tours offered at Thala, including the coconut tour, the guide was incredibly knowledgeable and made the experience so fun while being informative. The coconut plantation was stunning to walk by of a morning too. We enjoyed the day beds down on the beach, which was also a short walk from our rooms. Couldn’t rate this beautiful place high enough. Can’t wait to return again soon!

My husband and I popped by Thala on our way to Port Douglas because of the amazing coconut grove at the front of the property, and were immediately smitten!
Johan (apologies if it's not the right spelling) met us in the car park and shuttled us to the main reception building for a quick drink. We were immediately wowed by the view, the architecture, the beautiful service and pool. On impulse we booked a two night stay, and weren't disappointed!
Check in was seamless, we stayed in the Jungle Bungalow and immediately fell in love with the location and the serenity. Woke up every morning to the sound of waves crashing on the beach and birds singing in the trees...what more could you ask for??
I was treated to an amazing massage and facial with Alanie, and felt so well looked after and spoiled the entire time. Couldn't recommend it any higher if I tried!
Osprey was absolutely incredible from the food to the fantastic service for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We would give Thala 10 stars if we could, and will definitely be back again!
Thank you to the incredible team!

What’s not to love!! Immerse yourself into the trees, birds, sound of the waves, the soothing atmosphere that’s good for the soul :) Yes it’s a little dated, but in a nice way and for me it just added to the charm. Lamb shoulder dinner was absolutely amazing, as was lunch fish n chips & beef baguette. Awesome cocktails. Comfy bed. Friendly staff. Really glad we didn’t let any negative reviews put us off..

Nice scenery quiet location nice walks to beaches.Thala Beach Nature Reserve is located on a private headland between Cairns and Port Douglas, Australia. Deluxe eco accommodation options are sensitively positioned amongst the resort’s 145 acre property. Complimentary experiences.
The most beautiful place on earth. The 4 tier cascading pool feels like a natural water source. The resort compliments the spectacular natural environment, it feels so much like living in nature/ in paradise, whilst simultaneously being spoilt by all the comforts and services of a plush resort with good food and good service . The staff are lovely. The views are heavenly, the location second to none. Thank you Thala for this unique experience. Best place I’ve ever stayed at and I doubt I would ever find anything better👍♥

What a gem this place is. Loved waking up to the sound of the forest and the birds. You get a long, lovely stretch of private beach. Beaches, I should add. And it's also not too far from Port Douglas if you want to head to town. I just wish they had more dining options.

Also want to shout out to the friendly staff!

What’s not to love?
We just spent 5 nights at Thala and once again it didn’t fail to impress. Two standout features:
* the staff - they are amazing, friendly and stopped at nothing to make our stay comfortable and just as we wanted it.
* the location - the nature reserve is unmatched anywhere else I have stayed. The environmental sustainability of the resort is 30 years in the making and unquestioned. The sounds of the ocean and birds are beautiful to fall asleep and wake up to.
We stayed in the Sandpiper suite and can’t recommend it highly enough.
A short drive into Pt Douglas when you want to and only an hour to the Daintree River Ferry.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon this past December. Our flight was delayed and we arrived at 2am to check in, but there was a staff member bright eyed and alert waiting to check us in still, help us to our room, and explain about the property. Everything from the staff, to the layout of the property, golf cart pick up service, private beach, swimming pools, and more was amazing. Being able to eat breakfast every morning in the outdoor restaurant watching all the wildlife in their habitat was a great experience. We wish we stayed in Port Douglas longer to stay here longer and would definitely recommend anyone in the area a visit here. The best way to experience living in the rainforest. Thank you Thala for the amazing memories we have now.
