Shell Beach in Shark Bay is a true natural wonder. The beach gets its name from the millions of tiny white shells that blanket its shore, creating a mesmerizing sight that stretches for kilometers. Walking along the shore feels like strolling on a bed of pearls. The water is crystal clear, inviting visitors to take a refreshing dip or simply bask in the beauty of the surroundings. The contrast between the white shells and the azure waters of Shark Bay is simply stunning.

Shell Beach is a unique and beautiful beach located in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area in Western Australia. It is one of only a handful of places in the world where the beach is made up of billions of tiny shells, rather than sand. The shells are from a type of cockle called the pipi, and they are so densely packed that they create a hard, smooth surface that is perfect for walking on.

There is no shade at all, a very beautiful shell beach, full of small shells and very clean water, which is very impressive. I also suddenly saw a small shark (probably) swimming by, and I also saw a lizard beside the trail. Climb over leisurely

Head to Shell Beach and you’ll see shells! Lots of them!

In all seriousness, it’s a pretty incredible sight. A 60km stretch of beach only made up of tiny, white shells (sometimes up to 10m deep). Lots of opportunities for a photo!

We didn’t swim (it was already late in the day) but the water is twice as salty as the ocean so it’s apparently a great place for a dip and a float.

Toilets were clean (they are bush loos), and the interpretive signage is good. Lots of parking for vehicles with trailers. There were lots of flies, but that’s par for the course up here.

Stunning beach. Do yourself a favour and walk 100m either way up the beach to truly get a feel for how amazing the shells are, as the main entry has been stampeded into shell grit by hordes of tourists.

Disappointed.. sigh. We were hoping to see exploding flies when we opened our mouth, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.

We saw many different types of shells that were beautifully contrasted by the super blue water.

Super popular location and well worth the time to stop on by.

Wow. No matter what its worth seeing, you don't need to swim or stay long.
No real facilities so make it a quick stop off but stunning and breathtaking views and beach.
The clear water and shells are worth viewing.

Awesome place. You can find a lady selling sea shells down by the sea shore here. Just kidding…

Nothing much here, but it is a nice quick stop to see a beach that is covered with tiny shells. Mostly tiny cockle shells, check out the museum in denham for more info on it..

Really quite amazing =)

Driving to Monkey Mia, we saw the sign on the side pointing Shell Beach, so we decided to take a look. After a short stroll through bushes (and lots of big flies), this shell beach blowed us away. It felt like the end of the world. It was february and we were the only ones. The calm, warm water in this bay is just 15 cm deep and goes out at least 300 metres. Its like walking in a warm bath. If you are in the area, don't miss Shell Beach!

This is a fantastic, huge, clean beach. The water is hyper saline so it's very clear with few plants and fish which makes for pleasant swimming. As the name implies, Shell Beach is made up of trillions of cockle shells. To keep it nice for future generations and preserve the beach, don't take shells with you. There are bathroom facilities and picnic tables there with plenty of parking.

Absolutely beautiful beach, the water is very clear and the beach is covered with shells for approximately 60km. It’s worth a visit while you’re on your way.

This is a must do. It is an easy unsealed drive in with parking for cars and caravans. The beach is so tranquil, clean and with such clear water. The small shells are so fascinating as the whole beach is literally just these shells and it’s a must to take some iconic photos with them. The clean and pure white shells are closer to shore, while more compact broken shells are closer to the carpark, so keep walking to the shore to see the good stuff!
