Very steep! So steep going down you can barely see where the steps turn to at one points. At least 85% incline on the way back if not more.

Little creek to collect water very close to journey entrance however after that nothing much until you reach camp. On a hot day, prepare at least 2L when heading back up as if the sun is coming down on you noon time you’ll definitely go through all of it!

Such a perfect challenge for a weekend escape. The river is totally worth it, clearer than most close to Sydney. One of my faves and can’t wait to go back again and again.

fantastic wilderness campground near the beautiful Blue Gum forest. Very spacious and can accommodate numerous parties. There are 2 drop toilets, and a river for drinking water.

I recently (September '23) had the pleasure of visiting Acacia Flat Campground in the Blue Mountains, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience!

The adventure begins with a challenging descent from Perry's Lookdown to Blue Gum Forest, which spans a steep 520 meters. This path is adorned with rocky terrain, bushy landscapes, and occasional steps, so I'd recommend packing light to ease the strain on your knees and calves. Keep in mind that alternative routes to the campsite present their own unique challenges.

Once you arrive at the campground, you'll find yourself surrounded by lush, overgrown bush, creating an authentic and immersive camping environment. It's essential to note that fires are not allowed, although it seems that some visitors choose to ignore this rule. While I can't vouch for enforcement, I would caution against lighting fires, especially during dry summer months, as this could pose a safety hazard.

To ensure a comfortable stay, be sure to pack an ample supply of water and ready-to-eat food if you prefer not to cook. The campground provides longdrop toilets, but their cleanliness may vary, so come prepared.

One of the highlights of Acacia Flat Campground is the nearby creek, perfect for a refreshing dip.

Navigating the area can be a bit tricky, so I recommend bringing a compass and offline maps on your phone, or even a trusty topographical paper map. With these tools, you can confidently explore the beautiful surroundings while ensuring you never lose your way.

Acacia Flat offers a unique and challenging camping experience amidst the stunning Blue Mountains. While it has its quirks, like the steep descent and ascent it's a gem for nature enthusiasts who appreciate a bit of adventure. Just be sure to come prepared, and you'll have a memorable time in this beautiful wilderness.

There are many spacious flat areas available for camping with close proximity to the creek and bush toilet. This is a popular spot for experienced hikers and campers. There are no bins, so be prepared to return with everything you bring. Wildlife will nibble on any food left out overnight; be sure to secure food inside bags or tents.

If you’re pitching your tent at Acacia Flat campground, you can give yourself a big hug. You’ve joined a rare breed of intrepid campers who have walked into the Grose Valley in one of the most secluded wilderness areas in the Blue Mountains.

Accessed by walking tracks from either Perrys lookdown or Pierces Pass, you’ll camp amongst the rough barked apple and stringybarks. While you’re boiling up the billy, try adding a gum leaf before you sit back and soak up the vibes of the biggest eucalypt factory on the planet. When all that fresh air and walking has you ready for bed, crawl into your tent and fall asleep to the whispers of the bush.

If you’re a birdwatcher, the nearby Blue Gum Forest is a haven for birds and wildlife. There’s a lot to see, so be sure to pack binoculars and keep an eye above as kestrels and wedge-tailed eagles often surf the thermals near the cliffs.

Nice free campground with plenty of space and a nearby source of water. There is a toilet at the two different entrances into the campground. A nice spot to stay to break up a multi-day hike. Area should be left clean and you need to take your rubbish with you when you leave. Pretty well sheltered from the wind too.

Well kept campground. Beautiful spot. Toilet here too (non-flush). Govetts Creek is nearby and was running.

Love the campsite, been there many times however DO NOT DRINK FROM THE MAIN RIVER, It has heavy metal poisoning.
There is a stream roughly 1 km up the track towards govetts leap - refilling water there is much safer (Heavy metal poisoning will almost certainly be fine - just public saftey warning as many reviews here are saying you can drink it, you CAN, but should avoid so if possible.
Hope you have a good stay at the campsite!

Walk-in camping only.

Peace & quiet. Pit toilet provided. Many secluded camping areas. Long walk from car parking at Govetts Leap or Perrys Lookdown with a steep descent to access to camp. The walk is demanding but offers rewarding views.

No mobile phone reception at camp.

One of my special places in this world, I must have been on a hike to this campsite over 30 times but keep going back. Nothing beats waking up in the morning to the silence other than the sound of the streaming of water and other campers getting ready. If nature inspires you do yourself a favour and camp near here.

Have made multiple hikes here and love it.
Drank water straight from the river and had an eel swim between our legs. Please don't catch the eels there!
