Had to take a detour because Cobboboonee State Forest was back burned on the day, with notice only on major roads...
First stop, upwind from the fire, was Cobboboonee Camp which is on the walk, 15 minutes from ...
The stop for the Heathland Nature Trail loop walk is close by to the east.
It is worth the half - 1 hour walk, diverse habitats along the way.
The highlight for us was definitely the Jackass picnic/camp stop with the Fern Gully walk.

Lovely place for a walk or camp for the night.First we went to Cobboboonee camp .Then did 30 min nature walk.Saw more birds on GSW than on trail. We then went to Jackass picnic area which was fantastic.Lots of birds and wallaby.Toilet was clean and lots of tables and chairs to relax. There is also camp ground.Love Jackass the best.Download a map before you go so you dont get lost.Jackass has also got fern gully

This is a great place that I had never heard of. The walking trails are peaceful and green, and there's an abundance of animals and birds. Wallabies, echidnas, emus and kookaburras.

Stunning park with very few other people about. We went in late January 2023. We camped in a lovely private clearing at the North end of the park. The bush is dense, green and full of wallabies, birds of many species and lizards, huge gum trees, wattle, banksias and native pines. Native bees can be heard. I had a close encounter with two wallabies while walking along the dirt road that runs north-south through the park I had stayed absolutely still and quiet when I first saw them eating leaves off the road, so I didn’t scare them away. I stayed that way to watch them. They saw me. After a free minutes they looked up at my and stared. I started still. They they bounced in zig-zag form back and forward across the road and towards me. They came up with 50 metres of me then jumped sidewards into the bush. I could see that one had bounced away deep into the bush but the other had stopped not far in. I walked quietly towards where I thought he was. I could see his little eyes through the shrubs. He saw me. He then jumped up onto a tall fallen log so he could see me better. We stood there for quite a few minutes just looking at each other. Then he jumped away. It was magical.

This place is seriously cool. Free camping and maintained in a lovely manner. It has drop loos and some spots they will even have wood for your bbq waiting. (If your lucky, not all bbqs had this. Maybe other campers indulged) it's a bush camp.. We stayed at jackass gully which you can take your horse too which I think is unique. And there is a lovely walk near by just watch out for the leaches.. We went in summer -December.
Will definitely go again

Truly a modern example of dissonance in environment, as the park is both well-maintained, yet preserved as a pure example of nature's rich splendor. Excellent for photos and wildlife paintings, and for observing Australia's fleeting examples of a harmonic, verdant beauty.

Nice place to enjoy the night in the freecamp. I sea some wallabies and I was alone, so some problem with the neighborhood. The camp is pretty flat but no toilets.
