The museum shows some of the impressive history of the Rudopes. The early Traken were far ahead of their time in terms of craftsmanship.
The traditional costumes of the last centuries, the building structure and the traditions are shown to their best advantage.
It is well worth a visit.

We have visited very off-season, the museum seemed closed, but there was a security person present who let us in. As we were likely the only visitors that day, the heating wasn't turned on, but this only added to the winter atmosphere. The paintings are all very interesting and worth seeing, especially for the low cost of entry (3 lv per person). The gallery has a lot of art about the Rhodope region and seems to also have temporary exhibitions which would cost a lot of money in the Sofia gallery and others, so may be worth visiting even just for that.

Loved it. Really enjoyed my informative walk around...reading the printed out information in English. Felt like I learned a lot and my visit was well worth it. The ringing of the bells was a special addition to the experience.

A place to visit when you're in the region. You'll need approximately 1 hour to go around and see all the artifacts.

Really nice explanations and exhibits about Rhodopian culture and ethnography (in both BG and EN!). Super friendly staff.

There is a parking behind the museum. If you're by car, google maps will navigate you to a wrong place. After the round about, continue to drive and follow the street. To the left you'll see a school. The road goes above the school and the down again. At the moment the road goes down, look around for a children playgraund. Above it is the museum and the parking.

The exposition is presenting valuable knowledge. I learned for the first time that people from German origin have inhabited those places in ancient times. They were engaged in iron processing which is a traditional industry.

The local colors of textile have unique designer touch, the craftsmanship of Rodopa mountain culture.

Don't miss ringing the Rodopa mountain bells and listening to a cosmic sound! There isn't any better sound exhibit I've seen worldwide! After all Rodopa is Orpheus's birthplace.

Visiting the museum is best in all seasons except winter because it's cold in the exhibition areas.

Excellent place to learn of the history and traditions of the Rhodope Mountains. Info materials available in English, Russian, Italian, German, Spanish and Bulgarian. A souvenir stand offering a choice of handicraft products. Popular readings and scientific paper collections.

Various expositions from various ages. You can learn a lot about the region, the people that lived here, see their instruments, clothes, houses, pottery etc.

It's interesting (but it mostly shows things you have already seen in other museums).
