A place where you feel proud Bulgarian. The emblem of the Bulgarian Revolution! The house is well maintained. Easy to visit. The staff is very competent and knowledgeable! The exhibit hall is very inspiring and there is a lock of Levski's hair in the church. The thing that made me really impressed was that there was a braille alphabet at the entrance for blind people!

You will be given the opportunity to gain interesting information about Vassil Levski’s home, relatives and deed. Here you can see some of his preserver belongings, letters and documents as well as read about his unique destiny. It offers a great chance to get closer to what was left and reminds of the remarkable life-work of the Apostle of freedom. You can try to look deeply in the great mystery of his life: how in those difficult times of slavery his strong character, perseverance, human stamina and determination never faded away and combined with his revolutionary ideas and acts turned him into the most significant person in Bulgarian history.

Small as museums go, but authentic. And it's the house of our greatest hero, so a must see.

Learning about the legend of Vasil Levski beforehand didn't prepare me for how emotional of a place this would be.

The director of the museum was very warm and welcoming when helping us film inside and, as with all the people in the country that we met, she was very proud and pleased to see Bulgaria being explored and celebrated.

It is nice interesting place representing history of one of the most popular Bulgarian heroes from Turkish invasion. You could see how he was living. It is small museum. There are a lot of explanations in English, but if you could take a guided tour it will be better.

The feeling after seeing Vasily Levski's house is incredible.

Don't forget to check a lock of his hair at the temple. My parents almost missed it.

One of the many places in Bulgaria filled with enormous amount of history. As the birth home of Vasil Ivanov Kunchev (Vasil Levski) it is one of the most visited tourist sites in all of Bulgaria. Definitely recommend it! You would not only learn about the history of one amazing figure, but will be able to look into the lifestyle of the Bulgarian people from the early nineteenth century.

It is historical place where were recreated some of the original furniture and room view from before 200 years. A lot of original artefacts letters and pictures from the time of fight against Ottoman empire. There is a piece of hair from Vasil Levski. You can experience there a simple and poor way of living of Bulgarians living in cities two centuries ago. Do not expect something significant as a building and museum but something done with attention to details.

This is an intersting place for Bulgarians as Vasil Levski is one of the most famous Bulgarian icons. In the museum there is a small exposition and a chapel.
For foreigners might not be so exciting but consudering the price of 3 lv. and the time needed is between 15 and 30 min. it is totally worth it!

One of the most significant places of the Bulgarian history - the house where Vasil Levski, the man who lead the fights for liberty of Bulgaria, was born. It is in Karlovo town which is in the heart of the Roses valley. In Karlovo are born many other famous people leading the liberty fights against Ottoman empire at the end of the XIX century.

Well maintained and always full of tourists, the museum is a famous one. There's also a small temple to commemorate the Apostle, containing his hair in a glass jar. It's a bit ridiculous that it has been sponsored by Moto Pfohe and as a result their name is written among the church calligraphy in their trademark font and it looks funny.

The national museum of Vasil Levski is situated in the central region of the town of Karlovo. The museum complex includes the native house of Vasil Levski, a memorial chapel “Vsyah Svetih Bolgarskih” (All Saints of Bulgaria), Chardaklieva House, a museum exposition and the monument of Gina Kuncheva – the mother of Levski.

Vasil Ivanov Kunchev - Levski (1837 – 1873), also known as the Apostle of Freedom, is the most renowned hero in the Bulgarian history. A fighter for freedom, a revolutionary and a furtherer of equality, he is one of the basic ideologists and organizer of the struggles for national liberation from Ottoman dominion in the 19th century. He was hanged by the Ottoman authorities on 19 February 1973 in Sofia City.

The museum of Vasil Levski has a long-term history. Its beginning is related to the restoration of the native house of the Apostle in 1933 and its opening as a museum in 1937. The house is a small one-storey building with a basement, a cellar, and a shelter on the ground floor, and two rooms on the floor – one bedroom and one guest-room. A workshop is stuck to the house – a small construction consisting of a room with a shed. The initial appearance of the house is restored by courtesy of Levski’s nieces – the daughters of his sister Yana.

A room for documental exposition was constructed near the house in 1955. Consequently, it appeared to be too small and a new building was constructed in 1965, and the old one was reconstructed into a cinema-room. From 1968 to 1992 the museum house was a branch of the Local Historical Museum in Karlovo. Since 1993 it has been an independent museum. On 21 July 2000 it was declared a state cultural institute of national significance.

Since 1994 the Museum Complex in Karlovo has been restoring and expanding. The Chardaklieva House and Memorial Chapel “Vsyah Svetih Bolgarskih” were included.

The Chardaklieva House is situated next to the native house of Vasil Levski. The family of the Apostle’s aunt – Dona Chardaklieva – a sister of Gina Kuncheva was living in the Chardaklieva House. The house was constructed around 1840.

The memorial chapel “Vsyah Svetih Bolgarskih” was constructed in honor of the Apostle.

The museum exposition had been collected for more than 65 years and stores belongings, documents and pictures, related to the family, the life and the activity of Vasil Levski, his associates from Karlovo and other regions of the country. All scientific biographic researches and literature works dedicated to the Apostle, pieces of fine arts, etc. are kept here.

Nowadays the museum of Vasil Levski is one of the most visited memorial museums in Bulgaria.

On 19 February, the date on which the Apostle was hanged, every year Karlovo celebrates the deed and the self-sacrifice of Vasil Levski. Contests, exhibitions, literature meetings, etc. are being organized.

18 July is the official day of the town of Karlovo. On this day, the birth day of the Apostle, a national gathering entitled The Day of Vasil Levski is being organized in his native town. It is organized by the Municipality of Karlovo, Vasil Levski Foundation and the National Museum of Vasil Levski.
