Hisarlaka Fortress

Green and quiet area, perfect place for walks with an amazing opportunity for sightseeing. The fortress remainings are a must see and the view over the city is impressive. There is also a small zoo which provides more to the overall experience. The area can be reached by car or by foot. It is easily accessible from the city center (just have in mind that it takes stairs climbing but that should be considered as a good experience too). I have been there twice (I ama not local) and would definitely go there again.

Amazing old castle ruins. Very nice view over the city. It's best to go there at sundown.

An amazing place in the nature to rest and recharge. It is very well-maintained and clean. I would recommend taking the forest paths for a walk, it's a pleasant journey and they are suitable for everyone, you don't need to be in shape to walk them

One of the best city parks in Bulgaria in terms of air quality perhaps the veey best. Neat cafe-restaurant and playground on the hilltop. Cool spring water on couple spots on the walking trail.

Beautiful & relaxing atmosphere, fresh air! Great for hiking, or just to sitting and enjoying the view of the town Kustendil. You can eat delicious food, have a coffe and desert!!!

This place is marvelouse, it provides calmness and good spirit. The fortress is very preserved and it is convenient for children. It is relatively clean place that means that the municipality of Kyustendil fo their job perfectly. Also there is a nice restaurant and a gift shop that also sell snacks at the entrance near the parking lot. There is a coffee machine as well outside if it is closed like it was when we went there yesterday. The zoo is nearby so go for it. It is absolutely free to go to the fortress, I recommend and do enjoy it. Cheers

Beautiful historical attraction. Hisarlaka fortress is located on hill with the same name in southern part of Kyustendil, overlooking the town. It was built in the end of IV - beginning of V-th century when the town was mentioned under its Slavic name - Velbazhd. After this there were several reconstruction and extensions through the First and Second Bulgarian Kingdom and it became a major religious and administrative centre. The fortress was demolished by the Ottoman invaders in the XV-th century.

Very nice place for a walk. No parking fee and a small shop nearby. Also, there is a restaurant right next to the fortress where you can have lunch.

A beautiful walk in history

We enjoyed a walk in the woods, fresh air and a picturesque panorama of the city! The fortress is beautiful as well! Highly recommended spot in Kyustendil.

If you're traveling around this area of the country, definately worth checking the fortress and the park around it. Great view, where you can basically see the whole city of Kyustendil from there.
