Waterfall Skaklya (Zasele)

Amazing waterfall and place for a day in the nature! There are 2 ways to get there, but I suggest you to take the longer path (from Bov railway station) - there are plenty of smaller waterfalls along the river, the path is well maintained, there are a few places with spectacular views.

An interesting place near Sofia. Perfect for a one day trip. The waterfall is not that grand or majestic, but it's worth seeing it! Best time to visit - spring or in the beginning of the summer.

You have to see it when there is more water - spring or early summer. During the late summer/early fall it's more for the scenic trail than the waterfall. Nit suitable for young kids, maybe 5+.

Super beautiful waterfall only an hour away from Sofia! It is actually not so famous (yet) but it is a great spot to visit over the weekend. It is just below Zasele village along Vazov's ecotrail. I recommend visiting the trail in spring when there is water in the waterfall (in summer it may be dry).

Awesome place! We have started our walk from Bov train station and reached out Zasele village for 45 mins with short break. The way back we took for around 35-40 min because it is only descending.

Quite nice hike in the vicinity of Sofia, that you could do in a single afternoon. While the path is fairly decent, and the views are really beautiful, it is also quite steep, and can only be done if you are fully mobile (not suitable with small children). Also exhausting for city kids like myself. The climb from Villa Skaklya to the village on top is about 60-90 mins, way down is about half. ***When you reach the rock wall with the waterfall directly on your left, you must turn that way and descend to the bottom of the waterfall, to find the path forward. (See attached pic.)*** Going left will lead to a dangerously hard to climb area, and eventually, to a dead end. The waterfall itself wasn't too impressive in the autumn, but the view and the sense of achievement more than made up for it.

Beautiful spot. The views throughout the trail leading to the waterfall are amazing. The trail is a little steep, but totally worth the effort.

Beautiful place! Just keep in mind that during autumn there is not a lot of water :)

The ecopath is the real POI. Very nice views, usually not too much people. Take food as there is no place to eat nearby. There is water in the begining of the path.

Very nice trip! Suitable with kids. Views are amazing. There is a place for picnic. Lots of flowers, water, mountains, fresh air. We did only half of the path because our little one was tired and still it is a great spot to visit if you nature lover.

Totally awesome route! I went there from Sofia by train and it was quite a journey but it was worth every drop of sweat. Relatively easy climb, great views and beautiful nature :)

Lovely waterfall close to Sofia. Nice place to visit if you have a few hours. The Balkan is a national beauty and symbol and you'll be able to enjoy it for a while.
