Northumberland forest just north of Cobourg in Northumberland County is a gem for those of us who live in the area. A great place to hike, ski or bike. Open all year round. Skiing only from Dec. 1 to March 31 (as long as there is enough snow).

Great forest trails, various paths and lengths and diverse terrain as well, depending on the trail. I do the Red trail 3-4 times a week (2.6km) and it takes me about half an hour. Green Trail C is good if you want a longer trek with a very steep hill near the end. Love this place 👍

Best mountain biking facility I've been to in Ontario thus far; better than Glen Major (Whitby) and Albion Hills, for example. The primary reason is how well marked the trails are and the consistent use of the colour code circle with an arrow. You never have to stop to figure out what direction to go. The trails are in great shape with the right amount of technical bits. I did the "Green C" route which takes you through the "Hogs Back" section. I did a bit of pushing here. I'd do this section again but instead take the Yellow "bypass". Also did the more compact Red route which is a better introduction. They have printed maps at the kiosk which is also a big plus. Great job County of Northumberland. Looking forward to next outing. PS if you are hungry after biking check out Yorkies BBQ on 45 just before the 401... quality eats and inexpensive.

5 stars for hiking, just 3 to 4 for cross country skiing. Lots of variety in the trails. They are reserved for skiing between December and March. The skiing can be good but the trails are not groomed and not all users respect the winter restrictions. This year the trails will be closed during the week for logging. 2023 UPDATE - the trails are in great condition for skiing as of Jan. 26. The county has worked hard over the last 3 years to keep hikers and dog walkers off these trails in the winter. As a result, the tracks are staying in good condition much longer after each snowfall.

We drove up from Durham to find snow and were very happy that the forest still had plenty for a spring like ski in January. Really well marked trails. Always a great time.

Lots of parking available. Nice well taken care of trails. More flow trails than tech. Very fun to get a good ride in! Met some friends people here as well. Definitely recommend

For years I skiied on these trails but moved away 12 years ago. This was first time back & I was surprised by the number of downed trees. The hike was glorious and trash free. Loved it all over again.

Great trail, not a lot of bugs well signed and maps along the route to keep you on the right path.

They have made so many improvements to the signage and maps over the last 5 years. A really well maintained trail system for year round enjoyment. They now even have a stroller friendly trail.

This is a great group of trails of varying length, so there are options for everyone. Our favourites are the Blue and Red trails because they are of a reasonable length (~2-4km) but not too far for a toddler. The path is generally undulating but never difficult although good shoes are recommended because of the roots and exposed stones (this is a forest trail) and it can be wet in places from streams.

Excellent X-Country skiing. Trails for all levels from 1km to 16km. (Also great for hiking!) Fantastic hiking trails the rest of the year..

An absolutely stunning trail with several intertwining trails of varying levels of difficulty. But, it has a major flaw as it's reserved for cross country skiing from Dec 01 to March 01 and there are barely any skiiers on the trails during that period.

Otherwise, an absolutely awesome trail....

Some of the best single track cross country mountain biking trails I have ever ridden. There are also excellent hiking trails as well. There are loads of different trails of varying distance and difficulty and they are all extremely well sign posted. Check the trail head for a route that suits you and then take off, all trails are circular and lead back to the main trail head. These are also cross country ski trails in the winter so after the end of November until April they are off limits to hiking. If you want a real challenge ride the Green Trail and attempt the Hogs Back climb.

We picked this place as a break between Toronto and Ottawa and it was fantastic! We followed the Red hiking route and had a beautiful half hour hike to stretch our legs before getting back on the road to the highway 7 (coming from the 401)

Can definitely recommend doing this!

What a great trail! A one kilometer, totally accessible trail through beautiful trees. Northumberland has built this trail, so that it's good for walkers and even wheelchairs! Kudos to Northumberland County for providing a trail for accessibility challenged folks. We so enjoyed the outing!
