We visited the Canadian Railway Museum during the 1st Sunday of December. The museum wasn't crowded. The trains were decorated with Christmas ornaments and lights. The Christmas spirit was all in the air. We had a tour with a guide into one of the closed trains. They alternate the tours depending on the season. Moreover, the kids enjoyed DIY workshop in decorating a small train as well as taking a train ride simulation. Unfortunately, we missed the Christmas cookie decorations this time. They say there will be Santa's visit and the Polar Express movie during the following weeks. So, if you are interested in taking part in these activities, just follow the Museum's website. All information is there. Overall, we had an amazing time. This is the place definitely worth visiting !

Fantastic museum for locals and travelers alike! Staff were bilingual/multilingual (French and English) with a wealth of knowledge and were truly a pleasure to speak to. Our tour was self guided, but maps, signs, and employees ensured we were able to see the full indoor and outdoor museum exhibits.

Staff were always available and eager to provide directions, answer questions, point out interesting details, and share stories. The "Streetcar" is highly recommended - this tour allowed us to ride a stunningly restored passenger train to each site on the property. The whole museum could be accessible via walking, but hopping on and off the streetcar was a fun, informative, and immersive experience!

We stayed at the museum for about three hours and enjoyed every minute. Bring snacks, drinks, and sunscreen if you visit in summer.

The GPS brought us to the furthest parking lot. If this happens to you just walk down the street and on your left you will see the main parking lot. You have to walk over the bridge to the ticket booth. It was raining and muddy the day we went. The museum was magnificent. The first building we entered was a metal building with minimal lighting but the trains were really cool. The second building we entered blew our minds. The facility was awesome with lots and lots of trains inside. Many you could climb in an experience. We even got to see the underside of a train. This was by far one of the best train museums I have ever been drag to by my husband. Train enthusiasts of all ages will absolutely love this place. Great stop for us!! Worth the trip!

Absolutely must-visit if you're in Montreal, especially if you have kids. Went on a rainy day but still had a great time. Their entrance seems to have changed from what Google Maps shows - it takes you to parking 2 while the right place should be parking 1 which across the next street. However, the museum has mentioned this in a poster placed at parking 2 to guide visitors to the right place.
The ticket price was reasonable. They have this old fashion toy train that takes you around and gives you a glimpse of how trains functioned in olden days. The gentleman driving it was very jovial and friendly.
The main museum is great as they have life size locomotives at display with interesting facts mentioned about them. Some of these, mainly cars, not locomotives, you can also see from inside. Great fun and very informative.
There's a lunch room and some snacks are available at the gift shop but it's recommended that you carry some food, especially if you have kids along.
Parking was decent. Definitely recommended

A wonderful trip through time and the history of trains. The restored condition of some of these engines is amazing. Glad this place exists!

Amazing place, kids will like it, but first, the entrance is in the 1 st parking lot P1 so pass the black train on the left and pass Tim Horton, then turn left, the Mini train might be the most important part so make sure you buy the tkt for it from the entrance.

What an incredible place! Everything is well maintained and clean. The staff are super friendly. Leave yourself a few hours to be able to read the information and take in the sights.
The diorama train collection alone is worth the trip.
My only complaint is that the lighting was dim. It made reading difficult. So perhaps bring a cell phone light/flashlight to be able to see certain items better.

Wonderful collection of old engines etc in 2 huge buildings. No food court since COVID so pack in or get hungry. Our tour leader was great, then 2 more hrs on our own.

Great museum for a great price. Kids loved having to do challenges before 'entering' the museum all about train safety. Trains kept husband happy too. Wide variety of trains to see. You're able to go inside some, under some. One has been transformed into a play train for kids. The miniature train ride was sold to us as a small figure of 8, but was so much more! Bridges and tunnel. We didn't even mind getting wet! Then we finished up with a street car ride round the museum. Gift shop was well stocked and reasonably priced with everything train you could think off. Restaurant not open bit we always take a picnic.

Nice staff, friendly and bilingual people. The trains look amazing, you can get inside I pretend you are on that time. Highly recommend this plan for families and kids.

We visited the museum twice and absolutely loved the experience! The staff is great, helpful and polite! The Halloween decorations add an element of fun and I absolutely loved the “fantom” actors performing stories from the past, they were excellent! The mini train ride was also lots of fun. The tramway conductor was very lovely and kind, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit with our kids of 5 and 15. Thank you!

Very nice museum, however, not super organized. Not clear why main gate is close and there are no signs in English

This museum was off the beaten path from our Montreal hotel, but it was well worth the 30-minute Uber ride. The museum features many full size train cars as well as a very detailed and amusing miniatures display. We spent easily 30-45 minutes looking at the miniatures. A member of the staff stopped in to show us some fun details in the scenery, then we just chatted with him about his volunteer work at the museum and his garden train at home. The staff here are a true delight; very friendly and helpful. Signage is lacking in the initial walkway; there are just objects on display with no explanation. But overall, such a fun visit and we thought it was well worth the trip!

Very impressed by the amount and quality of the locomotives. Great display of Canadian railway history and the tram ride really brings you back in time.
Go visit and support this museum.

Trains! Huge, giant trains that you can go inside and touch!
Also a mini railroad, an old tramway, and a train you can take a ride on!
