Dr.Barb and Dr.Mel and all their staff are amazing. I wish they were my doctors. I would pay them under the table for this if they would let me.

We were connected to them through their efforts with the humane society when we were adopting our best buddy, all the way through her life and various health issues.

Somehow they have the magical combination of never having us wait, but also never rushing us. I am that weirdo who does research into feline cholangiohepatitis (triaditis, really) and all the other things, and they were very happy to nerd out with me about this stuff. I absolutely trust them and you should too. Their recommendations helped our dear friend live a long and full life.

They never pushed expensive treatments and were always very clear and sensitive about our options, even in the difficult times.

Our boy had a massive surgery and we desperately needed a new vet, one that would take that extra time to get to know our pets to give them the best care. They took us on and made us feel at ease . Our dog is nervous and reactive, he gets such good care and patience by Dr.Barb and all the staff I don't worry when I have to take him to the vet anymore.

Everyone who works here provides amazing care no matter who you are dealing with, no matter what the situation. They clearly all love animals and love their jobs. Very knowledgeable, patient and understanding. I trust them 💯. We have been with them for around 12 years and I truly cannot say enough good things about them. 5 stars all the way!

Dr. Barb was recommended to us by a friend and we are so thankful to have found her and Southgate. Our dog was a breed with some unique allergy issues which Barb resolved in a very cost effective manner compared to the recommendations from our previous vet, and she also always seemed to have the right specialty knowledge for the breed. Most of all, the Southgate team always treated us and our dog - who had a bit of a difficult personality - graciously and went above and beyond to make the visits very pleasant compared to previous experiences and to fit us in when emergency situations arose. This past year, the Southgate team handled end of life care for our dog with more empathy and kindness than I have ever experienced over a lifetime of owning pets and made a very difficult time as easy as possible. I appreciate the respectful way Barb and Southgate present various medical options along with expected outcomes, stress to the pet, and cost. We would recommend Southgate to any pet owner.

The whole team is phenomenal here. So grateful for their care. Dr Shanna has gone above and beyond with her acupuncture/ herb recommendations to help my girls longevity!

They have literally saved 2 of our dogs lives. They are caring, kind, and patient. They know our dogs and us. Our dogs are excited to go see them, pulling to get in to the office. We have never not been able to get in to see them when there was a concern. We have seen all the vets and they are all amazing, as are the vet techs and administration. With 3 dogs we spend a fair amount of time at the vet. We will be lifetime clients and can not thank them enough for all they have done for our family. They are simply the best!

Wonderful people are working there! Dr Shanna is doing a fantastic job and it is always a pleasure to have her around. Mary, our dog, is getting everything she needs and that for a very reasonable price. So, it is for us totally worth it to travel from Mississauga to Guelph.

The staff is professional and I feel very comfortable bringing my "fur babies" to this great establishment. My Eldest dog required emergency surgery, they handled it like the pros they are and one of the vets even came in on their day off to release him to us in the early morning. Will recommend it fully!

I have been taking my dog to Barb for years and now I am taking my new puppy. She has always been so knowledgeable and supportive with big and small decisions. I recently had a minor emergency with my puppy ingesting something he shouldn’t and they fit me in right away! Always a pleasure and I look forward to many years to come. Barb, Shanna and Mel are absolutely incredible! One our pups was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and the team at Southgate Animal Hospital has been absolutely incredible! I cannot thank them enough for all of their support! I definitely recommend Southgate Animal Hospital!

Worth every full star out of five! ⭐ I am currently sitting beside my drowsy little Chihuahua fresh out of anesthesia from his dental extractions and cleaning. Dr. Mel has been my vet for years and she is the only person that I truly trust with both my dogs and horses! I would drive across the province if I had to.... just to have her care and expertise. It's an absolute blessing to have a vet that will listen to every unique detail and sensitivity about my dog and then work extra hard to make sure she is able to give the him the absolute best!
The clinic is very clean, all of the staff have always been extremely friendly, smiling and happy to chat while dealing with them. It's a total breath of fresh air having that positivity since these last few years of isolation. My dog has been excited every time we pull into the parking lot just to see everyone. So, that alone is enough proof for me that this is a good place to bring him with a good group of people inside.

Great care given to all my pets ! Also reasonable prices. I have also had the unfortunate , emotional time in which some of my senior pets had to say goodbye . Dr Deter was wonderful . My 4 year old Cane Corso now sees the staff , and all are great !

I absolutely adore this vet!
When I first moved to Guelph I tried a couple different spots but this is the place I now use regularly.
They're reasonably priced and actually really care about the animals they treat. They're also super informative and have always taken the time to keep me updated, emailing me detailed test results and taking time to explain things to me.
The office is always very clean and the staff is amazing.
Would definitely reccomend!

I've been taking my dog to see Barb since the day we got her. She came highly recommended and I'm happy to pass on the same. Southgate Animal Hospital is by far the best vet clinic of all time. The staff go above and beyond to accommodate. I live in a different city now and I still make the trip to guelph for my pets. 1000% this clinic is the best

The staff at Southgate are extremely professional and kind. They helped me walk my beloved pup across the Rainbow Bridge and were incredibly supportive the entire way. Thank you for making the hardest thing I've ever done as positive as possible.

Katniss the Terrible Tabby developed a cough and upper respiratory symptoms, quick call to Dr. Shanna, was in the same afternoon, exam completed, some antivirals and 8 days later cat is back to her normal self. Thank you to all the staff for your kind and professional help.
