Dr. Rai and his team have been so amazing with my precious girls. He has essentially saved their lives a collective total of 3 times so far. They are going to be 14 years young in September. Dr. Rai genuinely cares about his patients and is highly skilled in assessing and treating them in a way which causes the least amount of stress. Before I found Downey Animal Hospital, I had been gouged by the OVC Corporation at U of G and billed for a plethora of completely unnecessary diagnostics and treatments; thousands of dollars later they still offered no diagnosis. They recommended ongoing bi-monthly invasive treatments that would have caused my poor girl significant and ongoing pain and suffering, with risk of infection and death. I went to Dr. Rai initially for a second opinion and he offered an inexpensive twice-a-day pill and now she has been symptom free for over 2 years. Unlike many vets, Dr Rai isn't motivated by profit margins, but rather makes a genuine effort to help lower costs and assist his patients. It's so refreshing to receive such empathy, honesty and kindness from a modern-day veterinarian. We are grateful to Dr. Rai and his awesome team!

Anything I say will just be rehashing what everyone else is - Dr.Ravi is a great vet. What stands out most is how this clinic shows care for the pet AND the owner. Like many others I've been to vets where I feel like I'm being taken for a ride...it's the exact opposite here. They actively find ways to get your animal the best care while trying to save you as much money as they can. I trust Dr.Ravi more than I trust most of my family members...and they all go to this vet clinic (and might see this review).

I recently took my dog here after switching vets, and was very pleased with the entire experience. The vet is very friendly, and really playful with my dog which helped calm down his anxiety. He exudes a passion for animals, so I feel comfortable trusting him as my veterinarian. The technician was great too, very friendly and helpful. Happy to have found this clinic.

Dr Rai and his staff are amazing, they've managed to help us stick handle through a very tricky time with our pet and we're thankful to him and his constant oversight and concern for our animals quick recovery can't recommend him enough, thank you!

Everyone was so nice, to our pets and to us. The vet knows what he is doing! It can be hard to find good vets for rats, this is probably the best vet I’ve seen for them. They also sent us a condolences card in the mail when one of our rats died. Their prices are also very reasonable. I would 110% recommend coming here.

Dr. Rai is compassionate, knowledgeable, and efficient. He has taken excellent care of my cats and always does his best to make them feel as comfortable as possible. 10/10 recommend.

I recently switched to Downey Animal Hospital as I liked that the vet on duty will know rabbit care. Had to unfortunately use them for an emergency, and although the outcome was sad, I was thoroughly impressed by the care given, even as a brand new client. Dr. Rai went above and beyond my expectations. Our rescue, as well as my own pets have a new vet! (BTW - Koneko is now eating like crazy!)

I brought my newly adopted “foster-fail” to see Dr. Ravi Rai for a checkup, and I was scared my cat was going to be anxious like he was at a previous clinic. To my surprise, he was immediately very comfortable and happy to receive pets and treats from the caring staff and Dr. Rai himself. The clinic was calm, clean, and welcoming. Everyone was incredibly gentle, kind, communicative, and made us feel well cared for during our first appointment here. You can tell that Dr. Rai is very passionate about the well-being of his patients. Most importantly…Mr.Duke loved his experience there so we are here to stay! We have had to bring our little guy in a couple of times, the most recent being after-hours in an emergency situation. Dr. Ravi Rai has always treated our little guy with such care and compassion, and has always been very professional. Although we always hope our little ones stay safe and healthy (as I am sure most pet parents would agree) and hope to never have to go back (kitty agrees), I am very glad there are people like Dr. Ravi out there to take good care of them when we have to.

Dr Ravi has been looking after my dogs and cats for many years. He is very compassionate with all my dogs and even made house calls when my golden was very sick. I have moved out of Guelph but still take my dogs to Downey Animal Hospital.

Dr Rai saved my cat's life when every other vet said he wouldn't make it through. We had a horrible experience at another vet hospital in Guelph and Dr Rai heard about it and he reached out and called us over to help. He told us "I want to save his life", and he did.
He takes so so much care, effort, and time. A true passion to help pets and their worried families.
My cat had a urinary blockage, went through a surgery at another vet hospital, and was not doing well at all. Dr Rai comforted us and told us exactly what course of action we should take to have the best chances. Now my cat is doing great. Peeing with a jet stream!!! Lol!
He gave me his emergency line to reach out at any time with emerging concerns, went out of his way to help my cat feel comfortable while in hospital with him (like letting him roam around the clinic when it was safe, and letting me come visit my cat and spend time with him while he was hospitalized.) He even sent me pictures with updates when I was so incredibly worried in the beginning.
He had very fair prices, only charging us for what was truly necessary. He was honest and blunt with what we needed. No gimmicks, no lies, no wool over our eyes. He was clear. He gave us what we needed, nothing more, and nothing less. A true professional and an honest, passionate, doctor.
"Rai" in Romanian means heaven, and Dr Heaven he was!!! Thank you Dr Rai, you've made our world a better place. Thank you for saving our boy ❤

Downey is such an amazing hospital! We are so fortunate that they support us as a rescue. The compassion and care from everyone at the clinic is beyond words and we are most grateful for all that they do for us and our dogs! Thank you so much for being who you are....AWESOME!

Dr Ravi Rai and his team at the Downey Animal Hospital are completely amazing! They saved my little Abbey's life, our beautiful 7 year old cat! We thought for sure we had to put her down because she had a couple large masses on her stomach and she lost tons of weight in a very short period of time. We assumed that she had cancer and that there was nothing that could be done. We were devastated to say the least as she means the world to us.
I think any other veterinarian would have said that there was nothing that could be done, but Dr. Rai is not like any other veterinarian. He said that he didn't feel right to put her down before trying something first. He even covered some of the costs because he wasn't sure if it would work. He gave her some medication and monitored her closely every day, and even throughout the night.
During her stay, all of the technicians and Dr Rai were so loving and caring towards her and ensured that all of her needs were being met. After a few days later, and to our surprise the masses disappeared and Abbey started to be her normal happy self again. Throughout her stay, Dr Rai always gave us updates, at least twice a day to let us know how she was doing. He even did extra x-rays and had her stay there longer, and even covered some of the expenses, because he wanted to ensure that what he was doing was working. He also figured out the root cause for her to become so ill, and recommended steps to prevent this in the future.
We are so grateful for all that he did and his team of technicians. They are always so friendly, positive, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. You can tell that everyone that works there are so passionate about helping animals and will do anything to help them. There are not enough words to describe how amazing they are at this animal hospital. They are also very affordable and truly care for the well being of the animals. They always go above and beyond our expectations! I highly recommend him and his wonderful team to anyone. Thank you for everything!

I brought my 5 year old cat here for the first time and if I need a vet again, I will definitely come back in the future. Dr. Rai and his staff were very kind, professional, and knowledgeable and the price was fair. Dr. Rai made sure my cat was comfortable during the whole procedure, which I appreciate so much. It's hard not to smile while you watch him handle your pet as he keeps the atmosphere light and positive. Just by being in the room, I can tell how much he truly cares for animals. Dr. Rai has been caring for my pets since soon after he opened Downey Animal Hospital. He is kind and compassionate and has provided excellent care to all of them, at times going above and beyond my expectations. The other members of his staff are always helpful, welcoming and also wonderful with the animals.

More than happy to give a five star rating to Dr Rai and his team! They are very knowledgeable, always friendly, and obviously care about the animals they treat. I have no qualms at all about giving Molly over to their veterinary care. And, they are extremely fair with their pricing! Highly recommended!
