The Scotsman Inn

The coolest place I've ever stayed. Decorated to the nines. I have a booth in an antique mall and I was in awe of the decor. April Cornell shower curtain...they spared no expense. Sandy was wonderful from start to finish. Highly recommend. Stayed in room 10 but didn't have any ghostly encounters. One can only hope!

My husband and I just spent a wonderful night at The Scotsman Inn in Pictou, Nova Scotia.
Our hosts Sandy and Cathy were splendid
They were very welcoming and have extensive knowledge of the area, providing historical background surrounding all the interesting locales within easy reach.
The inn is splendidly furnished with period pieces.
The room was well equipped with every detail thought out to ensure a good stay. The bed was very comfortable. Sandy served us our breakfast dressed in his traditional kilt. We felt very much at home and highly recommend a stay, whether a night enroute or returning on the PEI ferry ,traveling to or from Cape Breton or just a great getaway experience.

We stayed at the Scotsman inn for 1 night last summer. Sandy is an incredibly great host! We had wonderful conversations with him and the breakfast is unforgettable.
If we ever return to pictou we will definitely stay here again!

Sandy and Cathy were excellent hosts. Unforgettable 2 nights. Comfortable, courteous, clean, convenient, and a bit crass... A perfect blend of everything you need for a memorable stay.

Sandy and Cathy were wonderful hosts. The Inn is well kept. There is a lovely deck and garden in which to sit and enjoy a beverage. There are numerous stairs as it is a historic building so if you have mobility issues it will be a challenge to a stay here. The bed in our room was exceptional. The shower was small but had great water pressure. You can see the effort they put in to the up keep. Overall a great stay.

Due to the age of the building there’s no elevator so if you have mobility issues this may not be your stop and only take what you need for the night if your bags are cumbersome. Otherwise, it’s a very clean, unique little Inn focused on preserving the feel of its age while providing modern amenities like internet. There are no TVs in the rooms which I thought was great but it would also take away from the decor and likely be too loud. The owners were friendly, the place was immaculate, room was quiet and a perfect temp. The bed was so comfortable I slept through breakfast. So I grabbed a coffee and chatted with the owner prior to check out. Will be back next year with the husband I’m sure. Also, a great price!

Amazing couple, very comfortable bed and very clean Inn and rooms.
Great deck to enjoy the company of the other guests and enjoy that morning cup of coffee.

Fantastic world traveller hosts Cathy and Sandy, a classic old house beautifully restored that feels a bit like a walk back in time and a modern at the same time. Huge second floor outside deck to enjoy the evening after your travels. !Motorcycle Friendly! with a Bike Barn to put your stead in for the evening. As one Pete of The 3Pete Tour around NS and Cape Breton I can easily highly recommend The Scotsman Inn. Would make a great base for a several day tour whichever way you want to go around fair Nova Scotia.

We stayed for one night at the Scotsman's Inn on our way to Cape Breton. The hosts, Sandy and Kathy, gave us a warm welcome and took us in late in the evening. The room was very clean and quiet and we had a lovely home made breakfast with Scottish treats. They also gave us lots of tips of what to do and where to go and even helped us book our next accomodation. We really appreciated the time they took to share experiences with us. We would highly recommend staying here!

The Scotsman Inn provided a beautiful, cozy environment. Comfy linens and towels. Sandy was a wonderful host. Great dinner suggestion at the Harbour Ale House and we are happy we took his advice to stop in Arisaig and up to Cape George. Thanks again Sandy.

The Scotsman Inn is run by an actual Scot and his wife. This grande dame of heritage architecture is being lovingly restored while unobtrusively slipping in the "mod cons" modern travellers insist upon, such as private bathrooms in the rooms. It is a four storey building, with registration on the second level and rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors, and a king suite on the ground level. For those whose knees can manage, I highly recommend making the effort! The rooms are charmingly decorated, each one individually designed with care and showcasing both vintage and current locally-created artwork. The linens and beds are entirely comfortable and I appreciated the full-size amenities of quality items in the loo. You will enjoy a lovely light breakfast, served by Sandy sporting his kilt, and featuring proper China and silverware in a dining room worthy of the title. The attached and folded doors in the centre of the dining room have been carefully restored to function and are an unusual and attractive feature, as are the astonishingly high ceilings - common to the period but often lost to uncaring renovations. The grounds are a work in progress with a stone wall and newly planted curve of trees that enclose a pretty little lawn with multiple seating options. There is also a deck off the building, behind the registration desk from the inside, which is expansive and provides a nice place to unwind. Despite my knees I shall make it a point to return on my next trip - I only hope they'll be able to find me a vacancy! EDIT: Really should have added how lovely and easygoing the owners are to chat with. Sandy has encyclopaedic knowledge of the area and current attractions, closures, etc., plus a quick word about your plans and he'll tell you how to avoid the current roadwork throughout the region!

The Scotsman Inn was a joy to stay at, my only gripe is that we only had 1 night planned to stay there!

The building itself is beautiful inside and out and the hosts were both lovely. If you've any questions about the East coast or what to do on your travels then Sandy is the man to talk to.

Wonderful Inn, the best hosts, great little town. We stayed for 15 days and did out trips from here. Started each day with a great breakfast, met people from around the globe and always left with ideas and information about where we were headed to.
