Edelweiss Restaurant

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant!

My husband and I discovered it on our recent trip to Nova Scotia when we were staying at a nearby inn. Whilst looking for dinner options, I was immediately intrigued when I saw that there was a German restaurant in the area. I am German and Hungarian decent so this is a special treat for me.

And it did not disappoint! We had tomato soup and Hunter Schnitzel and both were absolutely delicious. Just like my dad used to make.

We sat on the terrace, with our dog who was vacationing with us, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and sunset on the country landscape. Our server was kind and he even brought a bowl of water for our dog so she wouldn't feel left out :)

We went back the following evening again and had another fantastic meal. And, we realized that it is also an inn with pet friendly rooms. Next time we visit Nova Scotia we will be staying here without a doubt. Incredible food, scenery and service, you can't go wrong!

Awesome restaurant, awesome people!

Arrived on Monday . . . Lucky us . . . The restaurant is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. This was our first time here.

We chose Weiner Schnitzel ($23) and Hunter Schnitzel ($27). Both were cooked to perfection! Spatzel (a German pasta-type side dish) was also awesome! Would have preferred red cabbage, but the sauerkraut was fine. Doesn't get better than this!

We also splurged for a piece of Black Forest Cake ($9), and having had the same in Germany on more than a few occasions, I can say that there is nothing that comes even close to this!! Absolutely awesome!

And to make our evening even more enjoyable, there was live music that just added to the ambiance. Nice!

This is simply an outstanding restaurant in every respect.

A beautiful, cozy spit close to the water. They were able to accommodate a fairly large group on no notice, which was great. The food was fantastic, prices reasonable and service outstanding. Highly recommended.

Simply one of the best meals I’ve had in Nova Scotia. The Hunter Schnitzel with red cabbage on the side was incredible. Better than most meals I’ve had in Germany.

The owner/chef is a real Gentleman!!

Our stop at Edelweiss was completely unplanned, but oh, what a happy accident!
Our group of 3 are 2nd-gen German/Austrian immigrants and can attest: this is authentic to a T! Delicious in every detail! Will return someday, stay at the inn, and work through the entire menu! Vielen Dank für die leckeren Speisen und gute Unterhaltung!

You have to stop here if you’re in the area. It’s a must!

The food is incredible and you can tell the whole experience is a passion for the owners. The chef frequently came to check in on our meal, you could tell it mattered to him that we enjoyed our meal.

Everything was amazing, but the baked potato side was the best I’ve had in my life.

Shout out to Danny for serenading us with some classic singalongs.

An awesome dining experience with Joerg today! Outstanding service, truly Amazing food, so much flavor, piping hot (on preheated plates) and served quickly. Joerg came to check with us so many times to ensure our experience was spectacular. You have to go and experience his menu. Can't wait to go back to try something different.

Amazing dessert, excellent salmon, perfect balance of flavors on each plate, this is one of our very favorite places to eat. Outside on a fine evening is the very best

Loved this place! The atmosphere was cozy and charming. We were served by amazing food by an authentic German Chef. Which I'm craving right now. And the beer, well it's German. Best beer I've ever had. Will go back every chance the we get!!

An unbelievable restaurant. Joerg was a great host and chef, detailing the ingredients in every dish. Everything is homemade. You could see the passion he has for preparing amazing dishes. A little hidden gem in Middleton, Nova Scotia. The creamy seafood chowder and Atlantic salmon with homemade hollandaise sauce were delicious. The steak was hand cut, cooked to perfection and sat on a special gravy. Plus he makes a true Black Forest cake (cherries are soaked in Kirschwasser brandy) and the lightest cheesecake ever. A go to place next time in this part of Nova Scotia.

We were lucky enough to have enjoyed two nights dining at this unique restaurant. The food was delicious, great atmosphere and service was incredible. Highly recommend a visit.

Super fresh with great traditional recipes. Spatzle is probably the best I've ever had.

Just an amazing awesome job of atmosphere and detail to fine Austrian cuisine and more you won’t be disappointed we ate in and I’ve eaten outside as well. On this amazing beautiful deck that overlooks the gardens and we still received beautiful service, The beer is delicious and the soups I’ve had amazing the waiter is very cordial and trained to perfect performance. Last night I tried another new dish for me mussels, it was delicious. And schnitzel, and red cabbage it was amazing ( that’s a Austrian delicacy) but then came out a few fine cakes that were hard to decide but I chose a nice light Black Forest cake like none other I’ve ever tried, the whole experience is over the top! Also the live acoustic guitar music and vocals of Barbra’s longtime friend Daniel highly added to the flavour of the room just like stepping into a romantic sweet home style restaurant.

My wife and I dropped in for dinner as we were in the area. Outstanding hidden gem!!!, fine German dinning and service at its best. Highly recommended especially for a romantic evening. I'll be telling all my friends about this place. There's not much in the line of fine dining in the region it was an awesome find; will be going back, often!

I have enjoyed two meals at Edelweiss Restaurant. Both dining experiences were memorable. The menu offers a wide variety of options, for appetizers, meals and desserts. The service is also very good. Although the wait for the meal is a wee bit long, it is more than worth it!! The quality of the meal, location and service makes for a lovely, relaxing experience that can and should be savored. I would highly recommend this gem of a restaurant - it is a new favorite for me!!

This was my first experience with German food. It was fantabulous! My husband had high expectations after experiencing German food multiple times in Winnipeg and he raved about the meal/drinks/desert here!
We just live down the road, so will definitely be making this a go to spot to bring any friends, family or visitors!

New Year's Day brunch at Edelweiss was a great way to begin 2024. The food and service were excellent. Every offering of the bountiful buffet was delicious and the atmosphere uplifting, from the festive decor to the pleasant live music. We hope we can make this outing a tradition.

Amazing homemade German-style food, delicious cake! The chef is top-notch. Very relaxing ambiance with live music and great atmosphere.

This place is a redemption: we haven't seen quality of a real food like this ever in Canada. Chef makes both tables sweet and regular by himself, extremely complicated and professional, nothing comparing with regular North American fried garbage. Our opinion -- price must be 3 times higher for real European experience, it terms of quality and services.

Today we went to the Edelweiß restaurant for brunch.
An extensive, real European breakfast awaited us, as you would get it in Germany, where almost nothing was left to be desired. We only missed the fresh rolls and unsalted butter.
We were served very nicely and courteously and the beautiful atmosphere in the restaurant rounded everything up. We spontaneously decided to go there again for dinner in the evening to get an overall impression of the service in the evening.
Also this time we were served very well, received a very good dinner, followed by a heavenly delicious homemade cake and a cognac and espresso at the end.
Despite the late hour (we were the last guests after a very long day) and a very exhausting week for the staff, we still had a very nice conversation with the restaurant manager personally. We felt very comfortable in this overall successful experience of this truly European restaurant.
We highly recommended if you want good, fresh food prepared with love (and you can taste it) at a reasonable price.
We are sure that we will eat there more often.
