H&R Block

Having someone like Shilo do my taxes for me is always great. She's upbeat and is good to share a laugh. She definitely deserves a five star rating. Quick and very knowledgeable about her work. Thank you. I will continue to do my taxes here as long as there are people like her working at H&R Block.

Drop my stuff, forgot about it got a call picked it up, now I'm set for the rest of the year, what a good Monday that was !

Everything was done online. The online portal was at times hard to log onto but once they got to my file it took a day to finish and send info to CRA. Payment for service was done over the phone. The e signature document process was straightforward but there is a bug in the program that tells you that the process is incomplete which it wasn't. All e signatures were signed. Here on in I will be filing my taxes this way as the process will only get easier. No more waiting in an office for this person 🙂

Over $100 to do a very basic return. They do not offer a student discount because this location is a franchise. The woman doing my taxes did not know how to claim a move for education, so advised me that it would be more difficult to claim it than the money would be worth. I later learned that it would have increased my return.

I have gone to the Greenwood, Nova Scotia branch of H&R Block for years and had good service when they did it by physical appointment. This year it was one problem after another. I put in tax information as an instant refund and was told, because they were so busy, that it would take about a week, when I called to inquire after a week I was told it would be ready at the beginning of the following week. I then stopped in the following week since I was in the area and was told sternly that 'you are to wait until we call you'. It took two and a half weeks before they called saying the it was ready but that it would not be put through as an instant refund due to a policy they have. Why did they not tell me that they could not put that tax return through as an instant refund when I initially dropped it off? I was told I had to make an appointment to go in now that they had completed it. I expected at that 'appointment' that I would have a tax assessor quickly go through it with me and answer any questions I had. Upon arriving the secretary placed it in front of me and wanted me to sign it immediately but I had a couple of quick questions about it. I wanted to make sure there was an important category/amount included before signing. The secretary stated she could not answer any of my questions since she does not do tax returns. I said "don't I have an appointment?" and she said the appointment was with her, that this was the appointment, and a tax assessor would have gone over any questions with me when they did the review on the phone after it was completed... only no tax assessor called me to do a review. I did not get a review of any kind on the phone. Now in order to have my quick questions answered I was going to have to wait longer even though there were tax assessors right there in the office. I could not talk to them there because they do not 'do appointments'. I would have to call and do a phone appointment. It was one delay after another and after I signed it just to get it done and processed while I was there I did call with my questions and the tax assessor I spoke with was rude. I did talk to the district manager in Kentville about my frustration and he was helpful and did at one point apologize but the Greenwood office was very unpleasant to deal with. I will NEVER deal with them or any H&R Block office again. It was a simple tax return that I could have done myself and would have if I had known how disrespectfully I would be treated in the Greenwood branch. If they have serious staffing issues then they should be upfront about if from the beginning so a person can decide if they want to wait that long instead of being told it will take a week which extends to two, possible three weeks or longer. And why does the Greenwood branch (and other Annapolis Valley H&R offices) not have physical appointments as they used to?? H&R Block branches in the city in Nova Scotia ARE doing physical appointments again and considering the lock downs are long over there is no reason why they could not have gone back to doing physical appointments again. They apparently do not want to and seem very disorganized along with having staff issues. Never again.

We have been loyal customers of the Greenwood H&R Block for many years now, but this will definitely be the last year we trust them to do our taxes. The customer service level is non-existent and we find that they are very unprofessional when it comes to the privacy that we as customers expect. Like many others this year the amount of time it took them to complete our returns was unacceptable. My husband dropped off our returns on the 21st of March and he was told that they would take 2 to 3 weeks. After three weeks he dropped into the office and they had not even started on our returns. They assured us they would be done "before the end of the month". Well, yeah, I would hope so, since that is the tax deadline! Today (April 29th) we finally were given an appointment to complete our forms. My husband had some questions regarding where on the tax form it was showing a prepayment to the CRA that we had made to help reduce the amount of tax we figured we would owe. The receptionist seemed a bit annoyed that we had any questions - and spent at least 20 -25 minutes silently clicking away at her keyboard while we awkwardly waited and a rather long line up piled up behind us. She was accessing my husbands CRA account - but we had no idea what was happening as she said nothing. Then she proceeded to tell us that the account was showing the payments. We did not appreciate our private tax information being discussed in front of an office full of people. I am not sure why this location no longer actually has in person, private consultations to go over the tax returns once they are completed. Service and privacy are completely missing.

I've gone to this branch for the last 5 years. When they had in person appointments, it was great. In and out the same afternoon. Now that they have switched to drop off only, the speed and communication from the staff has become sub par. I dropped mine off almost 2 weeks ago and I've had to call multiple times for updates. Most calls resulted in hearing "I will call you back" then not getting a phone call for days until I get annoyed and have to call again. You pay a premium to have them done quickly so you can get your return asap and in the current state of how it's being run I can't recommend their services. Even more so, if your taxes are simple just use a free online program like turbo tax since it's going to take weeks regardless to get them done. You would think a big company like H&R block would be well prepared for tax season but that is clearly not the case.

I took my tax’s in for my first t4 and put Insta refund and it has been anything but insta I have been waiting or over 3 weeks and still have not got a call or email back I called them lots they never call back and all they say is we call you back when it’s Done about a week ago I called and some woman told me she was working on it but when I called 2 days later they said I was still in line I have no idea what I’m paying them to do at this point almost thinking of going in and getting them and taking them some where else I have called h&r head office and they said they will try and speed things up for me they said they have no idea why it would take this long for just one t4 I can not recommend going there I won’t be going there again been told that the manager will contact me about my situation and still haven’t got a call or email I’m getting to the point of going In and taking my taxes back and going thru turbo tax I have called the head office and they told me that if they don’t got it done in 3-5 business days to call them back it the 3rd business day so I call hnr greenwood and they just keep telling me if I don’t get a call their not done and Debbie has been pretty rude i it’s annoying get a call every couple days but it more annoying for me when I’m being told they are being worked on and not I’ve been told it’s a franchise business not a main breach but it still should not take over 4-weeks for 1 t4 and it’s insta tax refund I have no idea what I paying for that just crazy shouldn’t be open if their employees can’t keep up with the work and still have not heard anything

2 and a half weeks ago we gave them our taxes to do, they still are not done. They said it would be finalized on Thursday of last week, then friday, then Monday. Then today they say they are still waiting for them to be finalized. I remember when you made in person appointments ant eveything was done while you were there. Not now!! This is not right!

Asked for appointment, they said they do walk ins. Sat for near 2 hours waiting. Finally when I got to talk to someone they didn't have a clue in regards to military moves taxation rules. Better to do your own taxes than go to this location.

Slow to complete simple return. Charged me full amount and did not apply military discount even though they have all paperwork showing this. Not very helpful.

Terrible customer service, branch manager is one of the nastiest people I have met
