We have been in Montreal a couple of days, on our first night we used the Marche Tradition supermarket around the corner from us. We found it all a bit unloved, cheap, and very expensive. Today, we went to Épicerie Basta, the difference is amazing. It has a great selection of quality goods, at a very reasonable price (for Montreal) the place is also spotlessly clean and inviting.
Before we went inside we discussed that it would be expensive, but it was cheaper than the other supermarket, but with superior products.
The young lady (I should have taken her name) at the till was so genuinely pleasant, service with a smile and very much appreciated.

Beautiful grocery store with almost everything you’ll ever need. Amazing produce, organic and local products, beer, snacks and more!

They have freshly made sandwiches and a bunch of jars filled with everything from nuts and grains to snacks and candy.

Great store and kind staff. They have a good selection of artisanal local products. Great egg, dairy options, tofu, fresh vegetables, excellent selection of dry fruit. I also like they sell QC wine and beer. Is it a place where I can buy everything I need? No, I still have to go to other stores. But it is a place I can get a lot of things that I cannot find elsewhere in the area, or unique precious things that make my tummy happy. Good prices too. Fills a good niche in the neighbourhood, especially for those who are not a fan of the health food chain that shall remain nameless.

This place has gotten a lot better since it first opened. They've managed to fit a lot into a fairly small store. I would double check the produce you buy as sometimes it's not the freshest (bought moldy mushrooms and sad kale once or twice, which I'm sure they would have refunded! I never asked). I really appreciate that they put their leftover veggies/fruits/meat into things like apple sauce, soup and shepherds pie. The returnable mason jar program is also great!

Great variety of fresh products but don't mind for your wallet, it'll be expensive.

Friendly staff, has the essentials we need and it's around the corner from our home. The reusable containers of bulk products are actually a great deal for nuts, beans and other pantry items, love that!!
