Tourist Information Center

This place is amazing. Enrique helped us with many questions and had good recommendations. He speaks Spanish, English and German :) the WiFi was good and free. The wind was so strong one day so we asked if we could eat our lunch in the tourist office, he agreed and even made some tea for us to warm up. He also informed us later on that the ferry was closed because of the strong wind. We could stay at the warm office until he had to close. Thank you for everything!

1958 als Wohnstatt für die Arbeiter der ENAP, der staatlichen Ölförderfirma Chiles, gegründet, galt damals als Juwel der modernen Architektur, analog zu Brasilia. Um den Hauptplatz herum wurden Gebäude wie ein Freizeitzentrum inkl. Pool mit olympischen Massen, ein Gewerbezentrum, Schule und weitere für das Wohlbefinden der hier anzusiedelnden Angestellten und ihrer Familien wichtige Einrichtungen errichtet. Der Glanz von damals ist zwar verschwunden und es leben lediglich 700 Menschen ständig hier, doch die Idee von einst und der Geist der Aufbruchstimmung ist noch immer spürbar, wenn Henrique vom Touristoffice ins Schwärmen gerät. Auch wenn die linken Ideale nur kurz Bestand hatten...Fidel Castro war es auf jeden Fall einen Abstecher wert, dieses Cerro Sombrero🥰
