What a wonderful lac to visit and discover the history behind!
First plastic water battle are forbidden so bring you own refill botte. Toilet paper are not free ao bring some handkerchiefs with you! There’s a trail up to approximately 3100 meters to do so be prepared for going up. Arriving there there’s also restaurants where you can have a bite. If you don’t want to walk I think you can drive up there.

The most connected to nature in Guatavita, the tour guide was nice and had the patience to explain in detail the history and interacted with the group. Long drive to get there, but worth the time.

Guatavita lake was a mistycal place to indigenous chibchas who lived in the plateau and worked the gold using a missing technique to do objects to decorate the body and to gift during ceremonial rituals.
The firts conquerors searched the gold of the indigenous but they never found because were cheated. The lake has a beautiful viewpoint in the top and the tour is marvelous.

This place is GORGEOUS!!!! You must visit if you are in Bogota. Take the bus to Guatavita on Calle 72 and it will cost you about 8,000 pesos there. Then when you get to Guatavita take a mini van to the Laguna and that will be 20,000 round trip. The driver will take you to the entrance and pick you back up after you finish the tour. The entrance fee is 19,500 pesos and 6,000 with your student ID. The tour is incredible and the guide is very informative and knowledgeable. You will learn a lot and they make the experience worth it all. Get back on your mini van and grab lunch in Guatavita and then take the bus back to Bogota. Lunches are 25-35,000 pesos. The last one leaves at 7pm and it will cost you another 8,000 pesos. You will have fun!! Take lots of pictures you won’t regret it. We felt very safe!

A must-see in Cundinamarca. Friendly guide and staff. A really great experience.

The only downside is that they only accept cash.

If you love nature, this is a place you want to go. Nature plus history, an amazing combination. I felt honored to walk the path that natives of these lands walked hundreds of years ago. It’s a national reserve that is still in a process of recovery after everything that happened to it, experience was amazing. And FYI do not go with plastic bottles or take food in plastics they are not allowed in order to better preserve the environment.

Heard the story of this place from a video talking about El Dorado and OH MY GOD. It is the most hilarious story I've ever heard! I hope you guys tell the WHOLE story to tourists, they have to know exactly what went on, the entire country of Columbia should be super proud. I do wonder if all the gold has been retrieved, because if so, you should put it on display with a sign that says "The treasures that spaniards died for."

We had drivers while we were in Bogota, so we requested that one of them take us to Guatavita. It's about a 1.5 hour drive from Bogota without traffic. We arrived around 11am and the next tour was going out at 11:15am so we were just in time.

All tours are in Spanish and you need to have a tour guide in order to go up. If you can speak or understand Spanish, it's truly a very educational hike. The entire hike takes about 1.5 hours. The tour guide leaves you at the lagoon and you make your own way down at your own pace.

We learned so much - about medicinal plants and also the legends and traditions of the Musica people that used to live in the area.

It cost us 41,000 COP for two people for the tour guide and entrance.

Bathrooms are only located at the beginning of the tour and no plastic bottles are allowed so plan accordingly with your water.

It’s a must visit place if you go to Colombia. Amazing views, the story of El Dorado comes alive in this place! Is awesome!

The only thing I’d say is that the road to get there is very bad, It needs to be fixed by the local government

The arepas at the end of the tour are delicious 😋
