Wow! What an adventure getting to these falls. A bit of a steep hike both up and down but worth every step. Not for the very young or very old, my wife and I are fairly active and we had to step carefully and stop and rest on the way up. Best, waterfalls outside of Niagara falls that I've ever seen! Plan on 1.5 hrs and bring water.

An adventure to access. Need a 4x4. $15 to access. Nice little hike. Very isolated. Worth the trip! Beautiful.

A wonderful place to visit!
Tricky access, and four-wheel drive useful. But you could walk the bit you drive and it would still be worth it.
We were given a useful little map and warned not to walk to the fourth waterfall as the path is not safe, but you can see it from other points on the descent.
Three excellent waterfalls, each more amazing than the previous one. Well-swept paths to access them.
We were the only people visiting while we were there. You can swim at the base of the falls. Plenty of shade if you want to relax, and places to sit and just revel in the views.
There's a restaurant at the top where you buy your ticket, with food, snacks and drinks available.

Great experience. Very empty. Short but steep hike. $17 per person (it's on private property) definitely need a 4wd car to get to the main trailhead, if you don't have that, you can hike an extra kilometer or so.

Nice hike. It wasn't too long of a hike but very steep when climbing back up I was exhausted lol. Also, don't underestimate the drive to the parking. The path really only fits one car and you are going to want a 4x4 with some clearance to make sure you get up to the parking area pretty easy. Other than that, it feels like on off-the-beaten path type of hike which is nice to experience. Makes you feel like a local.

Visiting these falls was a highlight of our first trip to Costa Rica. Read the whole thing because I have some tips and warnings.
We happened to see the sign and gave it a try. I was skeptical about the money (around $15 per person) but it was definitely worth it.
You first drive in to the parking lot on a couple miles of very narrow road. I would only try this with a 4 wheel drive.
You get to the parking lot and then hike down to a series of waterfalls. The trail is often steep, narrow, and sometimes slick. Not for the faint of heart or the out of shape. There is a shack to use as a dressing room about 10 minutes down the trail. It's filthy and decrepit (perhaps some of the entrance money could be allocated for a nicer one?). If I had a do-over, I would dress in my vehicle.
If it's not raining, it will be humid and probably hot (we were there in August 2021). We decided to hike all the way down first and then enjoy the falls on the way up. This was the way to go because we got to rest and cool off at each waterfall (remember, it's a steep trail).
All in all, it's amazing. The views and greenery are stunning. The falls are refreshing and beautiful.
By chance, when we returned to the parking lot, there were spider monkeys in the trees. This was the only time we saw spider monkeys on the whole trip. So cool!

A fantastic experience, with some great hikes between falls. This hidden gem is a little tricky at times to maneuver, but the effort is totally worth it to hike this mile loops and experience these beautiful waterfalls! There's 4 main ones and then a set of swimming holes at a couple as well. The staff was very welcoming and helpful and I had almost the whole park to myself. Definitely an underrated spot and would definitely recommend!

Three waterfalls for the price of one! Well, four if you include the one you can see on the other side of the valley. Well worth the visit. You will need a 4x4 to get to the parking or a slightly longer walk but well worth it. Stunningly beautiful. 4 waterfalls!!

This was absolutely amazing! Worth the 2 hour drive from the coastal Guanacaste region! You pay at the Google maps location and then drive down the "road" across from the orange office and restaurant. It was a wet day which would have the made the drive down and back up very difficult without 4 wheel drive, so strongly recommend considering that. The hike down to the waterfalls was not easy. Plan to have sturdy footwear that can get wet and muddy and that provides good traction. Handrails are not very sturdy and there were some slippery and loose dirt areas of the trail. The waterfalls were amazing to behold and offered excellent photo and video opportunities. Try to get to all of them! Beautiful views of the valley on the way down and some amazing flora and fauna. Hire me to be your guide in Costa Rica! Would definitely go back with others who have not been to it.

This was a cool hike with some nice waterfalls to check out. We went on the off season in November and only had one other person on the trail. There were some monster spiders that took over a lot of spots. I think being that it wasn't high season made a difference. As you go down the humidity got crazy and we were sweating like there was no tomorrow. We send down to about the 3rd fall before turning around. Coming back up was quite a walk because of how hot we were. But the hike was well worth and and I loved it. My girlfriend not as much but she can be a wuss sometimes 😅

Absolutely beautiful. We paid $10 and had a fabulous time.
That is until we tried to drive out. Eek! You need a 4x4. Thankfully some helpful locals with a 4x4 and a tow rope got us out.
Still, worth it!!

Beautiful waterfalls! Our guide took us there on the way from La Fortuna to Monteverde. We paid an entry fee of 16.00 USD (approx. 13.00 GBP), I think.. and then were taken down a very bumpy road in a 4x4 to where an arduous trek to the falls begins. This short drive was included in the entry fee and was a return.

The trail is steep and narrow - be prepared to do some steps! If you are scared of spiders, I suggest you skip this activity.....

The three waterfalls are located sort of consecutively - you go down to the first one.. more steps lead you down to the second one.. and more steps down again to the third one where you can swim, I believe. There was also the fourth one in the distance, but we decided to go back as it started raining heavily.

Good thing that there was just another couple apart from ourselves, and no-one else. One of the delights of travelling during the off-season!

If you need to regain some energy after your trek, there is a soda (restaurant) where you can have a bite to eat.

Would I recommend visiting this place? Most certainly, good exercise and really nice views!

I have this a 5 because it's worth every penny you spend!!! It's a hike not for the faint-of- heart. If you are in moderate to good shape, you can make it all the way to the Slide Waterfall. There are 4 other waterfalls that are not as hard on the knees. I would highly recommend to go and see.... You might find some friends along the way!!

These waterfalls are simply indescribable.

As soon as you have registered and paid for yourself at the top of the restaurant, you drive about one kilometer on a rather single-lane road with very few options to avoid another vehicle. By now you know that a SUV was the right choice. Halfway there are three parking spaces. These are still far from the path to the waterfall. At the end there are 10 parking spaces available. The road is reinforced with concrete at the slightly more precarious places. Practically in the rainy season.

The trail to the waterfalls is very well secured. However, it is already quite steep down, because you start on top of the mountain. So you should be very good on foot and have good footwear. At two of the waterfalls there is a changing room and picnic areas. The basin is suitable for bathing.

Overall, the complex is laid out with love. There are even two taps for drinking water. If you have arrived after more than 500m at the last waterfall (Sledge), you should consider that you have to climb 300 meters up again. In the rain, all this is certainly no pleasure.

As others have noted, the road to the second parking area is in really bad shape. Luckily, we did not have to choose whether to drive there. The man at the gatehouse recommended we park there at the first parking area even though we had a full size SUV. I am glad we did – the 1 KM hike over the hill on the gravel road was one of the highlights of the trip. From the top of the hill you can see for miles in every direction of green hills with not a house in sight. It was very pretty. Once we got to the second parking area, we hiked the trails to view the 4 waterfalls. The first two are OK, the third (where we swam) was very impressive with its height and power, the 4th is very large but hard to view from the trail end. You can see it easier from higher up. The trails were a little rough – they could use some maintenance. But we made it just fine, and really enjoyed this stop. The swimming at the third falls was the highlight. We went on a weekday afternoon and we were the only ones there. The man and his dog at the gatehouse watched our car which was nice. This is a nice off the beaten track activity and a good stop between La Fortuna and Monteverde. BTW – I saw a few others referenced mosquitos in their reviews but we did not encounter any on the trails or falls.

Hidden gem of Costa Rica. 3+1 clean waterfalls. Great for swimming. 4x4 vehicle and average body condition necessary.

Each waterfall is distinct with its own personality building excitement and power each stop along the way. Tentatively Ray hike in and going up all the way back. Stop and enjoy the water and the lizards.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The 3rd waterfall is where you'll want to spend most of your time, bring a swimsuit so you can take a dip.
