Tortuga Lodge & Gardens

We stayed two nights / 3 days at this lodge, and we loved every minute of it (wish I had booked longer). From the minute that we arrived, Zulay gave us a fabulous introduction to the property and the activities available. The food was superb - Michael and Martha took great care of us. We did the night tour on the first night, followed by 3 boat tours led by Juan who had amazing knowledge of all the wildlife and fauna. Juan was a great source of information and helped us get in the right positions for great shots. Elvis took us up the hill and gave us great information on the area as well. He even spotted a sloth on the property.
The property is ideally situated to visit the national park and you can even spot plenty of wildlife on the property itself. I would definitely come back to this hotel.

Was there in November 2023 and would highly recommend! The tour guides and hospitality overall were amazing. The meals at the restaurant were great (also was able to accommodate allergies). The grounds are so well kept and access to the reserve was a big plus. This was by far my favourite part of our trip to Costa Rica!

We stayed 3 days. Did 4 guided tours all are recommendable. Saw many animals during the boat trip.
The food in the restaurant is really excellent, breakfast lunch as well as dinner.
The service and friendliness and knowledge of the staff is outstanding.
Rooms are good but need more equipment such as rails for towels and a little bit more "nicely".

This place is paradise for bird watchers. We had an amazing stay (we were in the upstairs Ms Perla suites). Every morning we woke to find toucans, warblers, hummingbirds and more just outside our window. We went on a private bird watching boat tour with Fabian from the resort, and he was outstanding. So knowledgable, so passionate, and so helpful. With his help (and the boat driver's) we were able to see over 70 species in one day. It was the highlight of our stay for sure.

The resort itself is beautiful and well equipped, especially considering it's in a very remote area. We would love to come back and visit again.

Tortuga Lodge and Gardens is ideally situated with rooms overlooking the beautiful river and forest. The team here are so friendly, especially Enricha and Andy in the restaurant. The chefs are fantastic with a great selection of real quality food. Manuel, our nature guide, took us on a night walk through the forest and a sunrise boat trip (worth the early start). He was so knowledgeable and showed us so many amazing animals and birds including sloths, cayman, toucans and even an anteater.

Tortuga lodge in Tortuguero was included in our trip to Costa Rica. Our package included all meals and two activities each day. Arriving after a wonderful 90 boat trip we were very warmly welcomed. We chose the more basic accommodation which was great with a large bed, great shower and a balcony with great views. Good and service were excellent and on top of three meals a day you could still have coffee and snacks if you have room left. Our activities on the lagoon were fantastic with many terrific sightings including Caymen, and all manner of wonderful birds. Early starts ensure good sightings and our guide Juan was brilliant. We booked through Journey Latin America but other companies such as Audley Travel are available. You would be mad to miss out on Tortuguero 😁🇨🇷

We spent two nights here. We boated in and flew out. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The boat trip was worth the early rise. We saw an anteater!! And the night hike and village tour were also great experiences. The resort staff were all warm and friendly. We felt very cared for during our trip. They treated us to a special table by the pool on our last evening. Overall a great hotel. We will remember it fondly.

Absolutely idyllic, family friendly jungle lodge with wonderful staff and Michelin star worthy food. We loved this gateway to Costa Rican wildlife.

Great people, great experience. One note - downstairs rooms are susceptible to noise from upstairs neighbors, especially if they have kids stomping.

Great hospitality and delicious food. All dishes were not only extremely tasty but also served in finesse style.

Very lovely place. Very far from the Embarcadero. See if you can arrange boat transfer with the hotel... Their site is not very helpful about this...but the people are friendly and the rooms are comfy... The beds are very firm... Do with that info what you will... But there is AC and the water is drinkable by Americans. The reserve area is fantastic and the orchids in the garden are lovely.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Tortuga Lodge and Gardens. It was un experience unlike any other. We were not familiar with the area and the staff made everything super easy. They had lots of different tours to choose from with very knowledgeable guides. Bernardo was our host/guide for most of the time and he was extremely friendly and hospitable. Food at the lodge was very tasty with plenty of choices. The grounds are stunning and there was wildlife all around us. The rooms have no windows, just screens but this contributed to the experience. The weather was perfect so you didn’t really need an A/C. It was such a calm and relaxing environment!! We highly recommend staying at this property

What a magical place ! We absolutely loved it. The photos online do not do it justice. Each room has a breathtaking view of the river,and we loved spending time in our hammock on the balcony looking out. In the evening everything is silent and you can enjoy the sounds of the jungle from your room.

The organised activities were brillaint - we did the nightwalk and kayaking tour with Miguel who was wonderful. So friendly and knowledgeable (and fun!).

You get all meals included, making the price reasonable. The service was great, each waiter introduced themselves and asked for our names, and you eat outside by the river and pool. The food was the only thing we weren't blown away by, but it was still enjoyable and the presentation is lovely .

We spent 4 nights at this place. The rooms were great, activities well organized and not too long, the restaurant was very good. And all thing in the middle of the jungle. Only thing I missed was Italian quality coffee and cappuccino, but they promised to improve.

Went in June with my adult daughter. This place was amazing. From the great food , our room was beautiful. Pool was very nice. My favorite part was the 2 excursions a day that was included. Our guide was great. Would strongly recommend

My wife and I loved this place. The rooms were of an extremely high standard, having been recently refurbished, the staff were excellent, the food of an extremely high standard and the trips were led my knowledgeable guides whose enthusiasm for the area was infectious. We could not fault this hotel or its staff, just wonderful

Great food, good variety between local and international. Beds are 5 stars, the guides are very knowleadgeable and great service.

Great hotel, nice setting, pool and excellent meals. We enjoyed the charming location close to nature.
Lucy at reception was great and soft spoken Bernado for the boat and jungle tours was also great. My family had a great time!

Tortuga Lodge is an incredible place to experience Costa Rica! The grounds are beautiful, filled with native plants and animals. The rooms are excellent - simple, well maintained, comfortable and peaceful. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. The restaurant has delicious food and many options to choose from.
Only able to stay a single night on a trip in early October but could not recommend it more highly. From the initial boat ride to get to the lodge with Chico as our captain and Angelo as our guide, to the greeting at the dock by members of the staff including Carmen from reception. The afternoon nature walk on the grounds of the lodge had us seeing spider monkeys, sloths, caiman, poison dart frogs, toucans, bats, iguanas, and more plant types than I can name. The night time green sea turtle nesting tour was a once in a lifetime experience.
Tortuga Lodge is an excellent place not just to stay, but a great place to experience the beauty of Costa Rica

We stayed here 2 nights and wish we had booked more! Amazing and accommodating staff, excellent food, and the grounds were beyond breathtaking. Every morning we awoke to the sounds of nature. If you are in the Tortuguero area you will not go wrong staying here. The location is perfect as well. We will be back for sure. Book the rain forest boat tour and the sea turtle tour if available. We were so fortunate that we were able to view sea turtles coming and going on the beach, laying eggs, and hatchlings emerging and heading to the open sea. of the to Highly recommend!
