This is the ONLY real restaurant in Karlstejn, everything else is closed by 6pm. Good range of food that is well prepared. Nice indoor seating or great outdoor option for those hot summer days (with shade so you don't overheat). The location is also great away from the busy main road of junk shops. There is parking for bikes so also great if you arrive by cycling. I've been here at least three times and I plan to go many more

In the breathtaking landscapes of Czechia, where fairy-tale castles punctuate the rolling hills, you'll find the quintessential European dining experience at Restaurace a penzion Pod Dračí skálou. Located in the shadows of the majestic Karlštejn castle, this gem serves traditional Czech fare that is as enchanting as its architectural neighbor.

After a day spent exploring the castle's historic grounds, descending upon Pod Dračí skálou is like finding an oasis. Here, the hospitality is as warm as the hearth, and the food, steeped in Czech tradition, is a hearty culmination to the day's adventure.

The smoked ham on red cabbage is an exemplary testament to this culinary tradition. You might expect this to be a heavy dish, but it's surprisingly light and perfectly balanced. The smoke-kissed ham paired with the red cabbage - its excellent acidity providing the perfect counterbalance - offers a masterclass in the art of rustic comfort food. Each bite feels like a homecoming, a tribute to the simple, honest flavors of the Czech countryside.

Across the table, the goulash was an echo of this homage. A dish that needs no introduction in this part of the world, the goulash here is simply superb. Every spoonful is a testament to the dedication and love poured into its creation, prompting a bout of plate-licking that speaks louder than any verbal praise.

Yet, it's not just the food that makes Pod Dračí skálou an unforgettable experience. It's the warmth of the hearth, the centuries-old castle looming in the backdrop, the comforting hum of satisfied patrons, the clinking of glasses raised in a toast to good food and even better company. It's about the camaraderie shared over hearty meals, the stories exchanged under the watchful gaze of the castle, the memories forged amidst the rustic charm of this delightful establishment.

In essence, Pod Dračí skálou isn't just a restaurant or an inn; it's a piece of the Czech soul, lovingly served on a platter. It's a place where the grandeur of Karlštejn meets the earthy charm of traditional Czech fare, a place where every dish is a narrative, every bite an experience. And, as everywhere in this country, English is spoken fluently and all major cards are accepted. Five stars? Undoubtedly. But this place, my friends, transcends ratings.

Loved my overnight stay. Nice quaint place a little away from the town. It's a nice walk alongside nature to get to the hotel.
Staff were courteous and were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions. Check in took less than 10 mins as they were expecting me.
The room was as displayed on the booking site. Not pretentious, calm place for a calm day.
Only about 500m to the main gate of the castle...but it's a fair uphill climb.

The restaurant was able to seat our party of 14 immediately. The waiters were very patient and attentive. We had the duck, the fried cheese, and the grilled chicken with basil and it was all delicious. They have a large selection of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. They didn't even complain when we asked to pay separately and they had a system that made the whole process so easy and allowed us to stay in our seats and continue visiting with each other while we all paid. I would definitely recommend this restaurant on your visit to Karlštejn.

One of the best places with great food including deer and boar at a fair price (much lower than in Prague).
I recommend visiting it after the castle (there is a forest path from the castle to this restaurant).

Excellent dinner: quite cheap and large portions, we dont have to wait and everything was fresh and warm. Even someone, who never eats vegetables, have eaten all of them. Thank YOU!

Well apart from the beautiful Karlštejn Castle, there lies this beautiful gem of a restaurant, hidden between the underlying valley of the castle.. Its very well tucked restaurant within a nice green natured valley with a nice ambience.. The food is awesome too because of its home type of prepared meals.. I would visit the place again and again and again..

Came here with a large group, unannounced, in the afternoon and staff were warm and accommodating. The food was delicious and cheap (Salmon recommend), the beer was cold and flowing, bathroom was free for customers and bar snacks were top notch too. Make sure you walk around inside to check out all the antiques and taxidermy covering the walls.

Very good food. Nice place near the karlstejn castle. Several reviewers mention unfriendly waiting staff. Our experience was that the waitress we encountered first fit that description perfectly, however, the waiter who actually waited our table was quite nice and polite. So, it depends on whole you encounter on you particular visit. Don't let the sign at the entrance discourage you. It was probably written by the waitress.

We were there only at lunch, not in hotel, but tasty and very good value for money. Recommended to visit, if you are planning trip to castle, cca 10 minutes from castle´s courtyard.

Definitely worth the nice walk through the woods down from the castle, away from the rest of the town. The food was traditional & prepared well, friendly service, good prices, and in a very nicely done building.
