Wonderful place to visit during stay in the area. Climbing the 50m tower is a must - the views are amazing. Currently (June 2021) the castle and it's garden are being renovated so there are lot of things closed. But I'm visiting it again after the works are done.

Really nice. Much better than I expected. Beautiful and full of history. A long walk up the hill from square - my heart was pounding - but worth it.

A lovely Chateau in northern part of Czech. If you can go in spring or summer the flowers are sight in the private gardens. Beware of the Bear below, lol.

I’m not reviewing the castle interior or the tour. Just a nice place to walk up to when you are around the Náchod’s main square. There is a bear enclosure just below the main courtyard. 🐻

Perched high amidst the foliage right above the city’s pretty market square stands Nachod’s extensive zamek, a monumental citadel and castle complex ringed by a belt of intact fortified walls.
The wonderful view of the towering complex from namesti Masaryka is provocative enough to spur you on to get closer to this winsome overhang of architecture. The best route (yes, it offers a never-ending over-the-city panorama) to the complex is via the winding forest trail that climbs up from Masaryka square and ends right in front of the castle’s moat. A car and bus route that skirts the city centre is an effortless way to get up there but it offers no views whatsoever.
The original Gothic castle, of which only the pretty tower remains, once belonged to an aristocratic Czech family. But during the reign of Ferdinand II, the castle complex was seized by the state and handed to General Ottavio Piccolomini in gratitude for his assistance to remove Albrecht von Waldstein from acquiring more land and power in Bohemia. It was during the Piccolomini era (his family occupied the castle for 150 years) that the castle gained its present-day appearance. The original Gothic structure, mostly in disrepair was replaced by the Baroque construction you see today. Several Renaissance decorations, fountains and sgraffitoed designs were added later in an attempt to make the castle complex appear palatial and rich.
The 4 castle courtyards can be visited anytime (the best is early morning when there’s still nobody around) without a ticket. But to visit the castle’s interior, a ticket is mandatory. A short tour without a guide takes in the old tower, the dungeons and the lookout terrace from which the amazing all-round views extend to parts of the Czech Republic and Poland. The long tour with a guide (in Czech or Polish only) gives access to the castle’s chambers, some of which house interesting collections of paintings and sculptures while others contain collections of period furniture and related memorabilia accrued over the years by the Piccolomini family. English guided tours can be arranged for groups but not for individual visitors.

Low price, nice view. It’s hard to get there especially on the bike but the way down is amazing
