This place is located in Wedel (Lower Elbe). If you travel from Hamburg's Main Station it will take you around 50 minutes to get there (with public transportation). The big ships heading to (upriver) or from (downriver) are greeted (welcomed or bid farewell) by means of flags and a message in German and the language of the country the ship belongs too. A nice traditon since 1952. You can also walk along the beach there or eat at the nearby restaurant.

2nd year we went there at Christmas and enjoyed a delicious goose! Sides & wine were equally great.

Unforgettable memory ever. When we were there, a ship passed through the point and their national anthem started to play.

A very interesting place + good quality food!

Great place to see for tourists and locals alike. Here the ships are greeted with their national anthems. Details about the ships are announced. Nice outdoor beer garden, cafe and also indoor restaurant. Food is decent. Service very friendly. Great to sit down for a drink or meal and afterwards walk along the promenade.

Wonderful restaurant-fab food. For try the halibut followed by creme brulee. Easy parking on site. On the banks of the Elbe with passing shipping who when arriving are greeted with their national anthem & welcome to Hamburg & when leaving they play Auf Wiedersehen Sweetheart!

Stopped by for coffee and cake. Really interesting restaurant where they greet the ships that enter / exit the Hamburg habour! Great experience :)

A unique place where every vessel or ship which enters Hamburg harbour is welcomed by playing the national anthem of the country to which the ship belongs to. Watch this ceremony makes you feel the amount of work that goes into goods shipment.

Welcome point for ships at Hamburg. The ship's that visit Hamburg is greeted with a warm welcome here. The national anthem of the ship's flag is played. The flag of the vessel is hoisted. This requires in depth planning and the details of ship visiting Hamburg is recorded in the body's register. Flag mast is 40 mtrs in length. It is a fully automatic flag pole. On an average 50 ships pass this welcome point. It is a real delight to sailors to see such a warm welcome to any port.

This is the welcome point for all ships entering the Hamburg port. It is such a great place to visit and look at all the boats coming in and out of the harbour. National anthem of the ship is played when it is coming in to the harbour.

It's a nice place, where you can ride the bike alongside the river Elbe 🚲😊 with some restaurants and ice cream spots to rest 🚴‍♂

Good family trip location. But on sunny days, only with sunglasses enjoyable 😎
