Daoud schwarma are like all other German schwarma. Which is to say, it is not schwarma at all.

24-hour doner eateries dutifully establish themselves along the Stuttgart promenade, culling the midnight masses of ne'er-do-wells and poor-planners alike. Despite its homegeneity, one such establishment balks at convention by effortlessly embracing it.

Hark, the food; this is not a yufka you are ready to taste. The flavors are a review for you, not to be shared with posterity. It is private. The ingredients: ephemeral. The carnality: transactional. The result? A broadening of the mind, insofar as to engender a single, solitary brain wrinkle: that you have never been where you are now.

Life has not prepared me to describe the totality of Daoud, but duty, when recognized, does not tolerate preparation. Instead, though taste is universal, obligation requires but a simple, yet exclusive oath: "ein yufka, mit alas."

The clock strikes shawarma here, as it has since time immemorial and will forevermore. The promise, as it was—borne on bosom’s breast—sings sweetly in the neon night. Dauod the vessel, gobbet the stone, and yufka the sling, they have come forth for heroism and will leave with nothing less than undying devotion. Words like ‘crisp’, ‘crunch’ and ‘aureate’ are here to feast on *our* senses, to handle them firmly but playfully in the deep-fried crackle of this, the lonely mortal coil. Daoud is a gift, momentary salve from the bureaucratic drudgery of industrial Europe, here to invent, here to expose, here to refine. We are meaningless specks in an infinite universe, but for a moment we can be that dollop at the stern on the ship of the gods, we can be those transient interdimensional beings alighted, joyous, in flavor’s finest harbor. But for a moment we are Daoud; but for a moment we are free.

One of the best shawarmas in town. Good portion, good price, great taste. Would always hope to be hungry if I’m passing through.

Heute spontan beim Stuttgart Besuch einen Shawarma Yufka gegessen. Sehr lecker und frisch. Keine üppige Portion aber ausreichend und sättigend. Sehr nette Mitarbeiter die Unwissenheit Aufklären.
Wir kommen definitiv wieder.
