Great place to share with friends and family about our mission on the Inner German Border separating East and West German. This museum is dedicated to the contributions made first by the US Army's 14th and secondly by the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiments.

The inner German border was not completely abandoned until 1 July 1990, exactly 45 years to the day since its establishment, and only three months before German reunification formally ended Germany's division.

There is another museum, a short walk, or drive, that is built over high speed patrol road that was on the Soviet side.

The only recommendations I can make are, more signage written in English and possibly a reduced price or complimentary entry for those who can show they served there.

My father worked here in the 80's. While the tower that he worked is no longer standing, he did frequent the base where the toured tower still stands.

Also checkout the Black horse Museum in Fulda.

Excellent Musem. A lot of great exhibits in the Musem building. The exhibits in the American camp are interesting as well. I enjoyed seeing parts of the old border wall and the guard towers. For someone who was not there and was six when the easy fell it gives a good idea of what the border was like.

Most interesting place to visit! You can learn from German history and see lots of military material from the post-war era including a tank, helicopters and halftrack etc. Highly recommended to visit also the outdoor area with the remains of the ”antifasistische Schutzwall”.

DDR was such a joke for a country eventhough the onces living there weren’t laughing. Citizens had to be locked in to prevent them to escape the madness!

Very nice place if you like historical places especially military...also surrounded with great natural scenery. But difficult to get there if you don't have your own vehicle...

Everyone who interested in German History should see this place. Very well maintained Museum and former Border Line, it will give you chills just to imagine how the East German Government build a cruel Boarder to keep there own citizens locked up. On the other side you can see the former US-West German Army Base.

Spent a day touring Point Alpha. It is very interesting, even more so than Checkpoint Charlie.

Excellent museum about a very important part of German history.
Walking through the old army outpost gives you an opportunity to immerse yourself into the world of the Cold War and thus make the experience more tangible.
There are plenty of great items on exhibition, from big military vehicles like decommissioned tanks and helicopters to the smaller ones, like a decorated room that gives an impression of life in the encampment.
The museum nearby offers a fantastic selection of contemporary documents that make you cringe, leave you thoughtful and even make you laugh on occasions.
This place is even more relevant with the political developments of the reason months.
A clear recommendation to visit if you are around in the area!

Impressive historical site! This is the former US army observation post overlooking the "Fulda gap", which was widely believed to be the mostly likely attack route of Soviet troops , if the cold war had ever turned "hot". What I found most impressive is the fact that this is the actual site, with the original watchtower, barracks, flagpole, guard houses, etc. overlooking the area where the "iron curtain" border used to be. So you get a feeling of being there, immersed in history.
There is an exhibition that puts the site into historical context and throughout the camp there are military vehicles on display, including a tank, an armored personnel carrier, and two helicopters. Definitively worth a visit!

It was great to get some of the history first hand from my First unit in the Army. Till now, it was all stories from older veterans and another time. Having been there and seeing it first hand, I know better understand their comments.

Everyone knows about Checkpoint Charlie, but there were other ways into East Germany when there was a wall. The museum shows what life was like and the challenges the locals on both sides faced.
