We enjoyed it more than San Diego zoo.

It was established as a zoo in 1571 and has been known as the Sababurg Zoo since 1973. With an area of around 130 ha, it is one of the largest and oldest wildlife parks in Europe. In beautiful surroundings in the middle of the Reinhardswald forest in northern Hesse, you can marvel at around 80 animal species.

The whole family enjoyed the day trip at the Zoo. The kids were able to feed the animals and interact. There’s a wonderful playground, with a kids train that drives around the playground. ( €2 or €3 per train ride) variety of foods to eat. There’s also a tram that rides throughout the whole zoo (€2 or €3 ) definitely recommend!

This is a very large zoo, with big animal enclosures. It's not a traditional zoo as they don't have a large amount of animals and certainly not the traditional ones you'd expect (like lions, elephants, giraffes). They have animals more suited to the European climate like penguins, seals, deer, boar, raccoons, lynx, mountain goats, kangaroos etc.
The park itself is part of the ancient forest of Sababurg, so one can also see hundreds-year old oak trees. It also offers nice views of sleeping beauty's castle Sababurg

Well maintained, lot's of possibilities to not just watch, but interact with the animals. Prepare for a march - you can rent a small handcart when visiting with kids.

Smallest than UK's safari parks and less animals but so great time we had in and kids so happy with the feeding birds and animals.
Nice view in old forest in Germany, Kassel.

A huuuge Zoo in a small town. I wasnt expect that they created such a nice savana in the middle of Germany. The had a lot of animal collection. My favevorite one was the Penguine, they are really cute! But some strong and unique animals also pretty much interresting to see (You will like to see Bison and Wolf).
Since the park itsel are huge, I recommend to visit the zoo in the early morning, and take a slow walk to discover the wole zoo. Or there is a safari car as well wich can drive you all over the park if you dont feel like to walk that much ;)
Overall, this park is obviously worth to visit!!

Beautiful park in the middle of the Germany. The park is great for an all day adventure with kids. Free parking, playgrounds, petting zoo and many different types of animals are spread out through the large park. It never feels crowded even on busier days and you can buy snacks and food throughout the park. Toilets are available everywhere as well. We love to come here as much as we can 💚🍀🍁

Great zoo animals look very well looked after. Very well priced and they even do discounts for students. They also have a petting zoo that is fun for both children and adults not to mention you are able to actually go inside the penguin enclosure and see wolves from a very close distance!

A lot of space for the animals and big wooded lanes to walk. Less fancy exotic animals, more local wildlife.

Worth a visit throughout the year. They have a lot of animals held in natural habitats. Easiest to reach with your own car.

Great animal park, despite some enclosures not open due to covid-19. Loved it even without kid🤩

Its a beautiful place for long walks through nature - the animal sightings are what one would expect in Europe but there is a great variety - the take away was fine - we gathered in summer the place is very full but early in the year it was lovely and quiet - thank you !

Very huge area with many different animals that all live in adequate compounds with much space. Sometimes you might not see an animal because of this, but we saw most of them. There are many toilets in the park, some kiosks and a restaurant. Everything is clean. The prices are moderate comparing to zoos. All in all it's definitely worth going!

One of the best and most animal friendly parks I've ever visited. It's very spacious (which is especially nice at the moment considering the coronavirus). The animals have appropriate and diversified enclosures. Visitors can even stay after the official closing of the park at their own risk. The falconry of the park let's the birds (falcons, eagles, etc.) fly multiple times of the day.
