Maybe on of the most important landmarks on the Camino de Santiago. I stayed in the town before and decided to visit the cruz in the evening in order to have it all on my own. Very magical moment.

A “High Point” on the Camino, and not to be missed. Leaving at 6 AM I was able to reach the Cruz de Ferro by 7:50 am from Rabanal in time for a gorgeous sunrise. There was no line, which is another benefit of getting there early.
Others came from Foncebadon, but then they missed the amazing Benedictine choir services in Rabanal (another high point of the Camino).

After a long climb this place offer peace and quiet. Some picnic tables around and lots of shadow. Look around at the stones and pebles others left and feel the buzz of the peregrinos! Surprised some people arrive buy car and think it's ok to take stones as souvenirs. Just don't!

Cruz de Ferro is a pleasant part of the Camino with any practice before starting, it is best to manage in a group. To go together for better ongoing is easier. Best time in summer, or autumn to walk the Camino. In winter you should have experience, only in group, or not to go in winter.

Emotional place to visit if you sit and watch people laying down their stones

If you get to it, while you’re doing the Camino. And you brought your rock. You know how moving this place can be.

A special place that is used by some to let go of things that they have been carrying. Is most pleasant when there are few other people around and least pleasant when it is crowded.

A site thousands of years old where pilgrims leave a rock to signify leaving behind a burden, forgiveness or intent.

Millions of prayers cast in stones. Humbling and because of the human condition, holy ground .
