An amazing alternative if you are an aviation enthusiast or simply curious about the evolution of flight, the Madrid Aviation Museum offers a captivating journey through the history of the Spanish Air Force skies, chronologically the rich history from its beginnings to the modern age of jet fighters. Upon entering the museum, visitors are greeted by a breathtaking open air display of vintage aircraft meticulously preserved to their former glory and seven hangars housing the smaller pieces. From iconic planes to sleek jet fighters, the collection spans decades of innovation and technological advancement. Overall, a visit to the museum is an enriching and memorable experience. It is also whorthwhile mentioning that the entry is free and there is a gift shop and a cafeteria although the day of my visit was unfortunately closed.

First - it’s free
Second - it’s awesome!

The museum offers several exhibits in hangars and outside.

The entrance is free and you will be asked for a donation of 3 EUR per person for the maintenance of the exhibits. They are more than worth it. The staff here is very kind and discrete.

The museum offers several exhibits, either in hangars or outside. What you'll find here is the history of the Spanish aeronautical industry with very rare and unique items, found only in Spain.

Hispano & CASA planes + gyroplanes are the main dish of this museum. You'll also find a Soviet helicopter, 2 Soviet airplanes used during the Spanish Civil War, several Italian, German and French early models of Aviation, various American planes and helicopters from the height of the Cold War, East German and Swedish jets, + a few Czech light planes.

In all it is guaranteed you'll spend at least a couple of hours, even if you're not very inquisitive with every piece you come across. The sight is not enormous but it is big, so you'd better go early and fresh. It's not for a last minute gig.

The entrance is free and you will be asked for a donation of 3 per person for the maintenance of the exhibits. They are more than worth it. The staff here is very kind and discrete. The bathrooms are orderly and very clean. Remember that it is a military installation, so try to behave.

Exciting place to visit if you're even mildly into the topic.
Well-preserved examples and replicas of aviation history going back a century.

Well explained features and some very interesting Russian planes and helicopters made for a great morning with the kids.

Free to visit although we contributed a voluntary fee for maintenance, a guided tour is recommended.

This is one of the best museums I’ve ever visited in my life. It’s not the first one Aviation museums for me and I can tell you that in this museum you’d see all kids of planes. It’s full of planes, outside and inside the hangers. You would need more than an hour to see all of them.

I was there with my husband and a 3 year old kid. And we all liked it.

You won’t be able to touch the planes but you’d be able to take as many photos as you want.

I truly and honestly loved this place🤩 and I’m recommending to visit it with your loved ones ♥

The museum is free, you don’t have to pay, but there’s a box for donations. Please, leave some change for the museum to grow 🙏🏼 and there’s also a small bar for drinks and a small shop where you can buy some souvenirs.

Amazing museum. Arrived late, however I rushed and within 90 minutes I was able to see all 7 hangars and about 1/4 of the aircraft outside. I even got to purchase a cool shirt at the gift shop, great prices. All staff was courteous and helpful. I will be visiting again.

They have a large selection of aircraft used in days past and most look like they’ve been taken care of. The museum has aircraft outside and inside in like 6 hangars, all separate but well organized. There are a few space things and instruments used long ago like radar screens on display.
I recommend using some sunglasses and uv protection since most of the things are outside so come prepared. There is a small gift shop too if you are interested in taking a souvenir with you. The only thing I saw that could help give it a little extra to the place was that maybe they can have actual working simulators for people to use. There are several real simulators obviously not working now but if they could get those running it would be nice.

If you like planes, or anything remotely related, this is a must must must visit location. If you think you'll need 2 hours, plan for 4 and you will still feel like you need more time to see everything. There is so much here, so much history, it is truly remarkable.

You will find something for everyone, from old WW1 birth of flight machines, to post WW2 birth of GA, to pre modern day fighters, to space exhibits, including actual war artefacts and relics along the way.

Entry is free too and it was only on the way out that we found somewhere to donate.

The location is a bit out of the way, at least via public transport, requiring a taxi for the last part. And it could do with a sign on the main road, but our driver was able to find it in the end.

Informative museum, interresting unique Airoplanes!
Little challenge to reach on public transport
- best use Metro, cuatro vientos linio 10.
Salida extremadura - left,
Walk along highway 15 minutes.
Then left over first bridge.
Straight ahead, museum on your right.
Check Google maps!

Fantastic museum, with an extremely broad collection of aircraft, engines and helicopters, covering the complete history of aviation. All well explained with individual panels, some videos. Brief histories of nuclear bombs and jet engines and a final hangar for models of aircraft used in Spain.
Exceeded my expectations, highly recommended!

Superb exhibits including some very historically significant planes such as Franco's transport at the start of the Civil War. It would be nice if it was open longer and if there were a better cafe. The gift shop is very good. A great and free day out.
