Cortijo Opazo

Our 2nd visit to Cortijo Opaza was like returning home. A warm welcome from Robert and William. Spotlessly clean accommodation.
Fantastic views from the private terrace, a great spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
An ideal location as a base for a walking holiday,or for just relaxing and enjoying the tranquillity.
Looking forward to returning next year.

This was our second stay at the delightful Cortijo Opazo. The accommodation is comfortable and well set up for self catering. The walking cards are really helpful. The location is really quite amazing. You can easily spend all your time walking from the house into the beautiful mountains or nearby villages. With public transport (surprisingly good) or a vehicle you can do many other lovely walks in the area. We have now visited in Spring and Autumn both of which were beautiful and provided perfect weather for walking.

As soon as we arrived at Cortijo Opazo our shoulders relaxed and we felt instantly at peace. Robert and William gave us the perfect holiday. Wonderful walks, lovely picnics and delicious home cooked meals, served in their beautiful garden and terrace. I fell in love with the area. Beautiful villages, breath taking views of the Sierra Nevada, and because of the water that flows down from the peaks along ancient irrigation channels, even after a dry summer, there is vegetation, including amazing sweet chestnuts, almond trees, olives and apple trees. I am planning my next trip back in the Spring!

A lovely flat with its own private terrace, and access to a beautiful garden, overlooking gorgeous scenery in the Sierra Nevada.

Lots of considerate details on the part of the hosts too: everything well maintained, well-curated bookshelves, games to play, comfy furniture to lounge about on.

We booked initially for three nights and had to extend as we didn't want to leave. If I ever find myself in this part of the world again I would happily come back to Cortijo Opazo.

Cortijo Opazo, a fantastic bit of paradise to visit! After 15 visits we are devastated to have had to cancel our latest due to international restrictions. From the colour and beauty of the gardens, the spotless , comfortable and well equipped apartments to the friendly care which Robert and William take to make your stay relaxing and memorable it's just a perfect place to visit at any time of year. The villages, people, mountains and weather make this a wonderful area to visit whether you want to hike all day or just chill in the garden. It's only because we love hiking in the surrounding mountains so much that we ever manage to tear ourselves away from the peace and beauty of the garden. I cannot think of a better place to be in the current situation, with your own private space and the whole garden to wander in, not to mention the option of delicious dinners served by Robert and William in your own space. We can't wait to be back as soon as we possibly can.

I helped in the garden and it is a fantastic place. William and Robert are the perfect hosts. Do try their home cooking on your first day, I can guarantee you'll want more. The views are just breathtaking and if you like walking they supply maps and local knowledge. Every little village around here is a peaceful oasis. Each has a spring where you can drink mountain fresh water. If you want peace and relaxing I highly recommend Cortijo Opazo. Once you visit you will want to return.

We’re just back from a very enjoyable and relaxing five days at Cortijo Opazo. Great location for walking which we did on each of the days – Robert and William provided us with a varied itinerary dropping us off and picking us up on the days where we started/finished away from the house. We went for the fully catered option – their evening meals were excellent and varied and we enjoyed different foods some of which we wouldn’t normally have selected – along with the wine, it was all very welcome at the end of a day of walking. Breakfast was included along with a packed lunch each day – again William and Robert varied the selection and provided more than enough to keep us going. The accommodation was perfect for our requirements – along with the private outside areas and access to the gardens this made for a quiet and relaxing experience. Our thanks to both of you for a great holiday.

We had the most wonderful stay in Cortijo Opazo's Green Mountain Yurt. Robert and William are thoughtful and welcoming hosts. And this shines through in the quality and attention to detail of their lovely yurt. It has everything that you'd need and want. It is beyond glamping! We loved the tranquil, beautiful location. What a view to have for your morning cup of coffee. Great for watching starry skies too. Loved the delicious meals too!

We've just got back from a lovely stay in the eco-yurt at Cortijo Opazo, and we will definitely be recommending it to our family and friends. Beautifully tranquil surroundings, lots of nice walks and scenery, and Robert and William are very accommodating and helpful. We had a delicious 3 course meal cooked for us and delivered to our yurt on the first evening - wholly recommended!

We stayed in Cortijo Opazo for 4 days at the end of September. From the get go the hospitality of Robert and William made our short stay so memorable. The location and environment are stunning and it is the kind of place that makes you relax. The accomodation is excellent , full of character and with all you need for a lovely stay. Dining on the balcony in the evening was made all the more special by the availability of fresh herbs from the garden. This is a little piece of heaven and we will surely be back. We are already looking forward to our stay in La Herradura in the new year.

We enjoyed a fabulous 10 nights stay at La Corona. It is our favourite winter break up in the hills with beautiful blue skies and so many walks to explore. The apartment is fully equipped and has under floor heating for the chilly evenings. I love walking through the garden and seeing the spring flowers coming through so.much earlier.than at home in Ireland. We will be back next year.

Cortijo Opazo is the perfect place to stay.We have been returning for the past 10 years and stayed again in January this year. The weather was fabulous with sun, blue skies and snow on the hills. We have stayed in both apartments which are immaculately presented and comfortably furrnished. Cortijo Opazo is idyllic walking country and the owners Robert and William provide walking guides and maps and are happy to share their local knowledge of the area. After a long days walking there are seating areas in the beautiful gardens to watch the sun go down. We have found lots of local bars for tapas and beer and we would recomend you try Cuevas de la Mora Luna in Mecina Fondales. Cortijo Opazo also offer delicious meals if you don't want to cook for yourselves. We are already planning the next trip later in the year to see the wild flowers on the hills and the gardens in full bloom.

On arrival at Cortijo Opazo, after a long day that had started at 4 a.m., we were warmly welcomed by Robert who immediately brought us a complimentary glass of an excellent chilled white wine to aid our recovery. This served as a foretaste of the excellent three-course dinner that William had prepared at our request, and throughout our eight-day stay we were to enjoy more of their non-intrusive kindness, warmth and hospitality; even their dogs, Ella and Oska, made us feel welcome.

Our apartment was immaculately clean and well furbished with everything we could have required for our comfort; cool in the heat of the day yet warmed by underfloor heating when the chill of the night descended. Even in early April it was generally warm enough to eat outside on the private veranda and enjoy the magnificent views of the distant mountains across the valleys below. The garden that Robert and William have created and continue to develop is a delight to explore and a restful place to sit and read.

The setting of Cortijo Opazo, high in the Alpujarras has to be seen to be believed: the white town of Pitres in the middle distance, shepherds, sheep, goats, the distant barking of dogs, acequias, the steep, winding roads, heat hazes, mists and clouds, ibex, eagles and the essential timelessness of the place all make for a once in a lifetime holiday experience.

Taking everything into account, it is impossible to imagine that there could be anyone without malign intent who could write of this wonderful place and its delightful hosts in any but the most glowing of terms.

We had the most amazing holiday in the Green Mountain Yurt!
The Yurt is fabulous, and Robert and William were great hosts. Everything that we could possibly need was provided and the extra info that they gave us about the local area was spot on.
We camp a lot but this is a special experience, giving you the simple lifestyle of camping but also complete comfort - Magic!

We will return for sure.

Pasamos 10 días maravillosos en el Cortijo Opazo. Tiene unas vistas maravillosas de la montaña y el valle, desde el porche. Disfrutamos de las vistas durante el día y por la noche de un cielo increíble. Las rutas de senderismo son super chulas, con bastante agua y en algunos lugares puedes darte un chapuzón con un agua helada y algunas cascadas muy bonitas, ojo hay que andar para llegar a ellas. Robert y William nos dieron información de la zona que nos ayudó muchisimo. Sin duda volveremos. Muchas gracias por todo

“El paraíso Alpujarreño”

Celebramos el 50 aniversario de mi mujer en el Cortijo Opazo, donde pasamos 9 noches inolvidables en Diciembre 2014. El apartamento está perfectamente equipado para cocinar, y muy bien acondicionado para el frío. Con suelo radiante y, todo un lujo adicional, la chimenea. Robert y William son muy atentos y nos dejaron una cesta de leña de cortesía y verduras de su huerto, a la llegada. Los jardines y vistas del cortijo Opazo son espectaculares – es como estar en primera línea de playa, pero mirando la montaña. La blanca niebla del amanecer y el rojo tierra del atardecer te transporta a un lugar mágico natural, digno de un documental de National Geographic, pero en vivo. Su situación geográfica nos resultó ideal para hacer rutas de senderismo, descubrir los pueblos más auténticos de la Alpujarra, y contemplar su maravillosa naturaleza: cascadas de agua, ríos, montañas. Por cierto, Robert y William tienen un libro de rutas en el apartamento muy bien detallado, y con recomendaciones personales exquisitas de lugares para visitar y comer. !Como os echamos de menos!
