Parador de Santillana Gil Blas

A very nice Parador with parking available in a walkable village. Nice staff. Comfortable rooms.

A wonderful Parador. They were so helpful when we telephoned to book and when we arrived. Lovely location in a very picturesque village.

This perfectly preserved medieval village is surrounded by very rural verdant rolling hills. Gil Blas sits right in the very heart of it. As you go up the wide stone staircase to your room there are huge tapestries on the wall. You really feel you are in a luxurious castle!
Everything is beautifully furnished and looks pristine and kept scrupulously clean. Our room (26) was so big with lots of arched windows looking out over the square. I loved the fresh smell of professional cleaning products in the room. It’s all taken really good care of.
Wi-Fi in the room was super fast.
The bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in, including the bolster pillow. Bed linen was superb quality.
The bathroom is very large and includes a bidet.
Dinner was taken in the elegant restaurant. First we were offered fresh bread and an amuse bouche of some kind of Gazpacho and buttery snack. Starter was duck foie gras with caramelised onion and tiny round toasted bites. My husband had the Avocado and strawberry and pine nut salad, it was enormous. The next two courses were a disappointment. The battered monkfish goujons were so hard and chewy. The Cod felt raw and very chewy, but the pepper sauce was enjoyable. I did not enjoy my dessert called Grandma’s special, it was very ordinary, just custard, meringue, ice cream and wafers

BEST EXPERIENCE IN THIS MEDIEVAL TOWN THAT WAS BUILT IN THE YEAR 870. COBBLESTONE STREETS AND GREAT FOOD! THIS HOTEL PARADOR WAS SO PERFECT. FELT LIKE I WAS SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME WITH UPDATED AMENITIES OF COURSE. STAFF WAS GREAT AND HAD A WALKING TOUR FREE WHEN YOU SIGNED UP UPON ARRIVAL. LOVE THE DECOR!!!

A very beautiful place to eat and enjoay the architecture of the surrounding buildings beside a small hill. It goes without saying that the food was tasty and staff friendly.

One of the best paradors we stayed in. Accessed via narrow medieval streets and slightly lacking in road signs if you are approaching from the south, navigating your way can be a bit tricky. Follow signs for the tourist information centre.

After passing through a barrier, parking is available immediately outside in the sun or for more money in the underground garage. Spaces were ample and the garage was virtually empty so the car was easy to park.

The parador had everything we needed: a very spacious, quiet room with a sunken bath, his and her sinks, a safe, TV, chairs, mini bar and twin beds pushed together to make a large bed.

The restaurant was a short walk across the square in the sister parador and had an excellent choice of local dishes and wines. It became very busy after 9pm so go early if you want a quieter table away from the centre of the room.

Breakfast was excellent with a good selection of gluten free bread, lactose free milk, cheese and yoghurts, cold meats, fruit juice, Spanish omelette (you have to try the spinach one) and fruit.

The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the wi-fi was excellent.

A short walk from the church, shops with locally made pottery and food, Comillas and Gaudi's Capriccio, and Santander, Santillana makes an excellent base.

Will definitely return and recommend.

The hotel is in a beautiful historic mansion. The food was excellent, especially enjoyed Al fresco. Unfortunately, the wifi was really bad in the room.

The Parador de Gil Blas in Santillana del Mar is an amazing place to stay. In addition to the village itself there are dozens of things to do in the surrounding area. Most impressive are the Cuevas de Altamira with their pre-historic wall paintings.

There staff were welcoming, the room was spacious, the hotel was beautiful and the breakfast was on point. I would definitely recommend it. Muchas gracias!

Very quiant place. Adequate size room with comfortable bed. Perfectly located on the middle of the main plaza. Breakfast was inadequate but dinner was very good.

Great historic hotel! Has a museum of its own, but need to book to see it, its really close to St James Cathedral
