Absolutely loved this charming place. I chose camping el cares as a start and finish point for my anillo de los picos hike and couldn't have chosen a more scenic place to start. The views of the high peaks nearby, the sound of the river, the quiet atmosphere despite it being August and very welcoming staff made it a memorable experience. The only downside is that they don't provide toilet paper (It's available to buy in the shop).

Ideal spot for exploring the Picos on foot or bike. Great hosts with immaculate English. €30.50 per night in large 8m mhome with 2px incl EHU. The narrow track to the campsite (750m) from the road (which was fine) is a little demanding but we managed ok.

I really enjoyed our stay here for a week. The campsite has a great location right in the Picos de Europa National Park at ca. 1200 m altitude with a great view.
Shops and supermarkets are far away, but in case you really need something, you'll probably find it in their small shop on the campsite or you can have breakfast or dinner in their restaurant. Especially the dinners they offer have a very good price-quality ratio. The options for breakfast are a bit more limited. You can also order tasty bread daily.
The people who run the camping are very friendly and can give you some suggestions for nearby hikes and other activities.
The last kilometer to the camping is on a steep, bumpy road in bad condition, but this is more an advantage than a disadvantage, in my opinion, making the camping a little more exclusive.
The pictures below are taken on the camping or in the mountains next to it.

From the moment we phoned this campsite for directions we knew we were going to have a fabulous experience. The site is beautifully situated in the Pico Mountains with beautiful treks for all level of walkers. The campsite is very unique and very well maintained with a lovely friendly atmosphere and very helpful staff. Special thanks to Carlos for his friendly chats and information. The restaurant is amazing with delicious homecooked food. We recommend this campsite without hesitation and hope to return again for a longer stay

Very nice campsite with fantastic views. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and perfect service.

Carlos and his entire team were very helpfull and super friendly. The tips about the area and hiking routes were perfect.

Coming up to the campsite is a bit of a challenge. Go slow, stay in first gear and all will be fine.

Great camp site, very nice places and beautiful views on the Picos. Nice an quiet, good bar with good food for good prices. I would definitely recommend! Only point of attention was the lack of hot water at the women’s bathroom sinks. But that is minor considering the nice place!

We stayed there two years ago for just two days, and I want to go back. It was a little crazy-busy in August, (no surprise) but it was stunningly beautiful, cool, CLEAN, and relaxing. We went to the restaurant to try the Irish Stew, but they had run out. We ordered the roasted goat instead, and it was one of the best things I have ever eaten. Far out in nature, there’s lots of hiking options and beautiful views, including the stars, but come with a well-stocked kitchen, or you will need to use the pricy but good camp store. Great staff. Our family of 4 will be back!

This is an awesome campsite if you're looking for a quiet place to camp. Great views of the Picos de Europa mountains and specifically Torre de Frierro. Staff is very helpful and bathroom facilities are clean. Some fantastic hiking trails are just around the corner. Just be sure to bring enough groceries, since everything is far to drive. There is a camp store which has all your basic needs but is more expensive then the supermarket obviously. Thoroughly recommended all together!

Second visit after a break of 5 years.

Not much has changed, still a brilliant site full of brilliant people. Staff helpful and always seem busy. The bar/restaurant was as good as I remember it.

It's location is obviously it's selling point. Just stunning!

This is a well run beautiful site set in a national park in the mountains. The toilet and washing facilities were clean and well equipped. There are pitches in the main area, or you can go in a bit further up for wonderful views from your tent or camper van. There is a bar on site that does food in the evenings, a set menu, and you can charge your phone while you look at the maps or listen to a walking guide talk. The shop has the basics and is open all day. You can oder fresh bread from the bar and pick it up from 8am. We loved it here.

An incredibly beautiful setting, peaceful and with lots to do in the surrounding area. The campsite itself was perfect-clean toilets, a great restaurant open till late and the most attentive, hard working and helpful staff I've ever come across. Nothing is too much for them and they always have a smile on their faces.

What an amazing camping. We had a great stay last week, with amazing staff. A special thanks to Isa, Rafa and Carlos for making our days more enjoyable. This camping is by far the best place to experience the Picos de Europa, with a stunning view and lots of possiblities to go hiking.

Very nice camping. They try to keep vans and tents separated which makes the tent area nicer. Spots are smaller as we're used to in France, but this also gives a cosy effect. There is a higher part of the campsite that we discovered later. Less crowded there, but a rather long walk to the sanitary block.
Sanitary is clean and capacity is big enough. Showers are very good! Don't forget to bring your own toilet paper.
Reception and restaurant is open almost whole day with friendly English speaking people. Small shop has basic necessary things, but no bread. Bread (and croissants) can be ordered at restaurant for the next morning, however today it was somehow not possible, so we had to drive to Posada (10 min drive) to the small bakery(make sure you ring the bell to get in).
Restaurant is not expensive. We shared the "wolf" steak of 1 kg. It was nice, but as always a big chunk of fat and bone was leftover.
Unfortunately the closest bank and supermarket are at a 40 min drive, so make sure you have a stash and cash. It is possible to pay by card on campsite(when there is no error), but our experience is that paying by card is hard in many places in Basque country.
We hired via ferrata equipment and did the route at valdeon. It was very exciting (and scary sometimes)! We recommend you only do this when you're fit and sporty and not smaller than 1.65 (because of big steps and being attached to a high security cable).

Great camping with incredible views of the near mountains, a river passes through it.

Nice people who work in there, they speak english too.

The bar has got different beers made in Leon.

Services and showers are very clean.

This is how camping sites should be run. Lovely site with stunning views of the surrounding area. Shop open all hours selling everything you can need. Restaurant and bar serving great food, tapas, beer and Asturias cider! All great value and served by friendly staff.

I can't recommend this place enough! I will be back.

Hard working family and staff maintaining this basic two star camping very well. Hot showers and clean toilets. Good advise for hiking or even renting climbing equipment and guided tours climbing. Restaurant serving local dishes. Bring cash because low internet access makes electronic payment impossible.

Amazing spot in Picos de Europa for camping, good facilities and nice restaurant directly in the camping. Definitely recommend. A bit tricky if you are coming with big motor home.
