I took a 36 hour getaway (from Madrid to Ezcaray) for my birthday with 6 friends. I had been to this cute, Riojan-town a couple times before, but all this time it was extra special. The hotel is modern and cozy, our rooms were amazing: well designed, comfy beds, and clean. Our rooms also had a gift basket of a bottle of wine, fruit, snacks, etc. which made us feel special. Customer Service was top notch. During our amazing dinner, the chef came out greeted our party, and as a gift gave me a signed copy of the restaurants's latest cookbook. And upon checkout, we received a snack bag filled with local grapes and water for our ride home. I cannot recommend this hotel, and they're superior restaurants enough. A must if you're in the Rioja area!

Amazing food and outstnding service. Every dish was fresh and special, the hihlight of the night was the wine recommended by the sommelier and the lamb, simply one of the best I've ever had.

Wonderful experience in this Michelin star restaurant. The chef was there and came by each table to meet and greet us, what an honor! The meal was superb, the wine pairing on point. If you are near Ezcaray, try to book a table here. It's worth the drive and money. And you will get amazing views on the way to and back from there. Unforgettable meal.

A great experience overall, without much innovation but a traditional approach to fine dining. Well executed. The part with offal like tongue, heart etc did put off some of the guests, maybe it should be made optional or they should tell you what it is after you ate it. Service was good, but even accommodating our 7 month old, although some of the dishes were dropped without much explanation. I think the price is fair and I left very satisfied.

Echaurren is a hidden Jem. We visited the Hotel, where we stayed one night and also had a reservation at the ⭐⭐ Michelin Star Restaurant El Portal. The hotel room is tiny but super comfortable- the bed is great. Also the breakfast was very classy with a beautiful variety of meat and cheese. The Restaurant is such an amazing journey in the life of the Chef’s history and his family’s life in this wonderful small town. The food is so creative and delicious- we had an unbelievable meal. Wait for the surprise at the end…

The food, service, ambience and attention to detail was outstanding. Well worthy of its 2 star Michelin It is by far the best restaurant we have eaten in over the past three weeks in Spain.

One of the most fantastic meals of our lives! I loved every part of the experience which seemed so carefully thought out! I was even fascinated by the actual plates they were served on with the lighting. Each dish was unique and tasty in its own way playing with different flavors and textures. The service was excellent, everyone friendly while enthusiastically explaining each dish. My stomach and heart were so happy! There were so many courses, and at the end I felt like I had survived an epic food adventure.

Really good hotel with great view of the cathedral from the room. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. Breakfast was exceptional and we highly recommend it. We also had dinner at their 2 Michelin star restaurant which was a great experience.

I was really floored by the experience. First off the location was incredible, a quiet medieval town that managed to have plenty of options nearby. During our visit to La Rioja people were often surprised we would stay all the way in Ezcaray, but the 30 minute drive to the wineries was definitely worth it for us. Second, the service was phenomenal. We saw the same friendly faces every day during our stay which really made it feel cozy and personable compared to other hotel visits. Third, the food. El Portal was one of the best eating experiences we have ever had. Truly memorable and we are no strangers to Michelin stars. The tradicion restaurant was fantastic as well. And the sommelier could not have been nicer, more knowledgeable, or more helpful. Truly a stunning experience and I really hope that others find this hotel and wine region for a visit because what they are doing is spectacular.

Unbelievable. Gorgeous hotel with a warm service. Absolutely astonished with the restaurants offering. 4 places for any budget and absolutely top quality.
The El Portal experience was outstanding. The food of Francis Paniego made me think of Japan in terms of product quality and the finest establishments in France in terms of presentation. Yet it was all incredibly local and Spanish. José Félix Paniego management of the room and wine is just superb. The wines were magnificent, and the suggested pairings were not only delicious but also surprising – red wine with fish and rose with fine meat dishes. Fantastic! I am delighted we made a detour on our way to Galicia from Barcelona.

Outstanding. Service is impeccable and the food is out of this world, starting with the complementary fish terrine. Croquetas are the best I've had. The crayfish salad is a must. The flavors of the ajoblanco are amazing. Grilled tuna and albondigas are only ok. Tostada con queso de Cameros was the perfect dessert.

Behind a hidden door of the hotel reception, you'll find ten tables where you will enjoy an extraordinary culinary experience. The Land menu we chose consists of 22 different dishes. The red prawn dish is the most flavored one to me with a strong stock. Trout was delicious too. The starters aren't extremely surprising in terms of flavors but a great introduction to the ingredients of the area. They might have the best croquettes in Spain here. The prawn and green asparagus were also marvelous pieces. Chocolate & others fresh ingredients form a mixed set of desserts to conclude a perfect food experience. Service can't be better, kind, fast and accurate with no mistakes, great explanations (they give you a paper tag describing each plate) and fexible in changing or adding dishes from the second menu for you. The wine list is extensive and their sommelier makes an excellent job choosing a variety designed for your menu. Amazing conclusion of the experience with the Chef greetings and discussion about it. (The waiting in the hotel reception where one seems a bit lost since there's the other hotel restaurant could be improved). My personal addition to the menu 'callos'/pig skin.

The perfect experience. We stayed at the hotel and managed to fit in a meal at each of the restaurants, including a visit to the kitchen. The hotel is idyllic in a charming, historic building which has been decorated in a modern and chic style whilst maintaining sufficient nods to its history to make it the perfect blend of cool, comfort and glamour. Our room overlooked the beautiful church and whilst i am not one for spending time in my room in hotels i could quite happily have stayed in this sanctuary for our entire stay. The food at each of the restaurants was exquisite, with phenomenal attention to savouring the flavours, colours and ambiance of the region whilst adding modern twists and exciting turns. No trip to Echaurren would be complete without also experiencing the delights of the breakfast degustation menu served on the beautiful, sunny, tranquil terrace. Needless to say, we will now have to go on a serious diet prior to ever being allowed to return for a rematch (which we have already started planning). Perhaps the most notable thing about Echaurren however is the hosts: the grace, style, welcoming, kind and friendly manner of the proprietors as well as each member of their team is exemplary. The love which the Paniego family obviously have for what they do is evident and this shines through every part of the establishment. Thank you for everything, Lucy and David. Ps we loved the bikes!

Dined in El Portal (the gastronomic restaurant - there is also a traditional restaurant). One of the best meals I have ever had and deserves its 2 Michelin stars. I chose the 12 course Miradas a esta tierra menu. At €150, it was at the same level as the 3 star Diverxo in Madrid but I thought this was better

Excellent! Croquetas, the meatballs and the chuletillas were 1000%. The deserts were also out of this world. Prices are very reasonable for the quality.

Perfect place to escape for a few days, personal and professional service. Very cozy town, close to a lot of charming wineries and restaurants throughout La Rioja.
