Refugio De Juanar

This is just a lovely place. A Parador until the 1980s and the basic infrastructure of the hotel hasn't much changed since then, it is nonetheless clean, with comfortable beds, hairdryer and everything you need for a comfortable stay in simple rooms. We were given an electric heater which was more than enough to keep us warm. We ate here too- the croquetas and wild boar stew were great. There's also an atmospheric open fire in the bar area. The family who run the place are lovely and welcoming. It is located in the heart of the natural environment - up a hill and in the middle of the woods above Marbella and close to the village of Ojén and with fantastic local walks. With no phone signal (but there is WiFi) it's a perfect place to relax, a classic hotel rural.

This newly reopened hotel is thriving! A perfect place to stop before or after hiking in the popular area. We stayed the night and had a great meal in the evening and breakfast the next day. This property was historically a part of the Parador de Turismo network. The hotel and restaurant still retains all of these historic charms. We loved it for its rustic wooden features and cosy rooms. The refugio has extensive shaded patios and sitting areas with shade...a prefect place to relax and enjoy the mountain environment.

We were here for works Xmas Dinner. The best compliment I can make is I will be booking again for my Birthday.

Very kind staff. We came there in the morning looking for breakfast. The restaurant was closed, but they made sandwiches for us and coffee. When we came back from our trip we ate dinner there and it was very tasty and big. The hotel looks very nice and I would really love to stay there. A lot of free parking place nearby.

We love to hike in the refugio. When we do it is nice to have lunch or dinner at the restaurant. The hosts are friendly, and the food is always good.

Great place to hike! There were 6 routes that we saw. We hiked route #1, and loved it. Beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife, no one around, and no trash. Don't park at the hotel, oops, instead stay left and drive onto a dirt road that has parking available.

The owner is the best! Help me and my 3 friends with food and a car ride back to Marbella after we took a Uber there and went on ha hike. We dident have any cash on us. But he let us pay after the hike, when where back at our house! / 4 guys from Sweden

What a superb welcome and lovely surprise to visit a place, where I haven't been for a long time, (that will now change) and to have such a warm welcome back ! The atmosphere was warm ( big log fire), the staff were fun and happy, the food was absolutely delicious and the wine excellent. Every mouthful, of really superbly cooked traditional Spanish food, was excellent. Thank you Juanar and Juan!

Stayed here for five days' walking break in February. Loved it. Great food, friendly staff, log fire, great walks. Simple pleasures.

What a great surprise and a positive one! If you like good lodgings, great food and natural surroundings with a lot of posibilities for hiking then this is your choise.

Its a pity this charming place closed with the covid pandemic....its nested in a beautiful area with many hiking routes and used to end the trip with a drink or a meal at the hotel....

This place is an absolute gem. Small hotel and restaurant in the middle of nature reserve. Can be busy during the weekends.
