After stops in Ainhoa and Espellete, we ventured to Valcarlos on the recommendation of a friend of our daughter. Such a beautiful setting for a town, and a wonderful place for a fantastic meal with very enjoyable wine recommended by the friendly staff.

Delicious stop to regain strength on the Way of Saint James. Country food.

The waitress was v gracious with our negligible spanish. We enjoyed hamon, v sweet melon & delightful asparagus. My partner loved her bean stew & I the steak with cheese sauce. Great menu del dia, would highly recommend.

We had Asparagus, i had Spinach and some fish 🐟 all were great with some wine lunch menu included dessert 🎂 i got some without dairy berries. Was very busy

This is what a cosy mountain village cafe/ restaurant is all about.... good food, cold beer and wine with even a small supermarcado for good measure! It çan be busy but service trys to be attentive. and always interesting to enjoy the village way of life. Food is plentiful ànd the cheesecake is very good .

We arrived at Valcarlos in the rain after our walk. We had a coffee in Benta Ardanegia which was lovely and at a great price. We then went back for a brilliant lunch - the starter could have a main course anywhere else and the main was super tasty - not posh but honest good food. The bottle of wine was included which was great. The lady serving was patient with our lack of Spanish and happy to chat in French with my friend.

Lovely little place in Valcarlos on the Pilgrim Way to Santiago. Great local food, made with local produce, at an excellent price. You won’t leave hungry or disappointed! Just try the mushroom salad with chanterelles! Mmm mmm. Their own wine was very acceptable, either ‘normal’ or chilled! The Outside seating was both in the sun or in the shade and ideal for those of us who have dogs! Over our couple of weeks holiday we ate at both lunchtimes and evening at least half a dozen times. Highly recommend.
