Hostel Virgen de Guadalupe

Don't listen to the gloomers. This is a unique and quirky experience with an authentic feel. More adventurous than the typical hostels, or even the ones that try to be quirky. The owner is an artist, in the sense that he does not fit preconceptions. The rooms are more B&B style than dorms, just two in my room but same price as dorm, tons of room, and his food is plentiful and healthy

Very cosy and beautiful little hostel with two beds bedrooms. Perfect to relax and gather back your strength. The host is very polite. I can recommend everyone, travelling the Camino, to take the time and stop here and simply enjoy life.

I stayed here some time ago so this is a late review, but I really liked this albergue. It was pouring rain when I arrived early, and the host was gracious and welcoming Then later we all had a really hearty shared meal.

Not to be put off by the naysayers. The owner is intelligent and straight-talking, which may put timid people off, but I really enjoyed the conversation. The guy is smart and spiritual, both.

A nice surprise was that we were only 2 people in a room! Great communal meal at 6pm prepared by hospitalero. Take a shower when you arrive as it is solar and there will be no hot water in the morning.

We had a beautiful stay here - the place is very clean and our host was so welcoming. We had a delicious dinner the evening we arrived and a great breakfast before setting off the following morning.

Cute hostel with spacious rooms, and a cute dog & cat. Each room had a kettle, cups and coffee, which was a nice touch.

Single room with privacy. Lots of toilet. Quiet and had a good night sleep. Place is a bit cold in March. Probably is good when the weather warms up. Host is great.

One of the best and largest rooms we've stayed in. Despite the older building, owner keeps it clean. I recommend the dinner option. The owner prepares and serves until full. Overall, a great stay.

For those who find the host rude. It might be a language barrier, people from Bilbao are staright talking. He is very spiritual and a bit intense but all in a good vibe.
If you are looking for a single room bed, 15€ is the best you can get.

It's refreshing to meet someone that is honest (perhaps too honest for some). However, you know where you stand and I certainly don't mind showering before sitting on the couch. It's basically respect for his establishment. Relax and go with the flow and you'll enjoy it.

A beautiful calm place. A harbor of piece. Pedro the hospitalero is very nice and helpful. The rooms are tidy. There is altogether space for 20 ppl. 5 rooms x3beds and one room with 2 beds. 3 bathrooms. Dinners are healthy and filling. The hospitalero can also prepare breakfast for those who ask. Or a breakfast to go :) really recommend. :)

This is a albergue with character. Nothing fancy, it s an old house rebuilded to host pilgrims, but I will remember Pedro and his unique personality. Pedro is really kind and nice person who do his best to accomodate your needs.

Pedro was a wonderful host and cook. His place is eclectic and full of expression.

A primo impatto Sergio , il proprietario , può sembrare rude e sgarbato . In realtà ci vuole
Poco a realizzare che è tutto il contrario .
Mi ha regalato il vino e offerto un lavaggio ai piedi con il sapone tutto gratuitamente .
Cucina lui sia la cena che la colazione ( che però ho evitato perché costa € 9 ) . Le stanze inoltre sono ottime perché sono di due letti . Alla fine lo consiglio .

2014-06-01 Seinerzeit habe ich diese Herberge als sehr passabel und das Personal als zuvorkommend erlebt: Die Betten waren sauber, die Duschen wie auch das Essen waren ebenfalls gut. Preis und Leistung passten. Die Stimmung war wie immer: "Wie man hinein schreit, kommt es zurück."
Auch das was ich von meinen Pilgerbrüdern im letzten Jahr 2023 gehört und auf den Bildern gesehen habe, die ich anhand meines alten Pilgerausweises hier hin geschickt habe, war positiv.

Wenn ich hier einige Bewertungen lese, kann ich über so viel Egoismus wirklich nur den Kopf schütteln und mich als Pilger für diese Wohlstandsprobleme bei dem Herbergsvater in aller Form entschuldigen...! Das ist wirklich zum Fremdschämen!

Das man bei einer Anmeldung im Voraus einfach mal zwei Hunde verschweigt und sich dann einfach hinstellt, man findet aber sonst jetzt nirgends mehr was zum Schlafen, geht überhaupt nicht: Vielleicht hat der Herbergsvater sogar selbst Hunde und möchte kein Bellkonzert...!
Andere Pilger könnten obendrein zurecht Angst vor den Hunden als auch Allergien haben, was man vorher mit ALLEN PILGERN absprechen muss, die dort grade übernachten.
Bevor man ein Tier zur Übernachtung mit bringt, fragt man -
das ist überall so und gehört ohnehin zum guten Ton!

Wenn die Hundebesitzer auch noch bis 07:30 Uhr schlafen, während die anderen Pilger um 05:30 Uhr wahrscheinlich um die Hunde herum schleichen und aufpassen müssen, dass die nicht bellen oder schnappen, ist ebenfalls etwas in der Selbstwahrnehmung nicht in Ordnung!
Die meisten Pilger stehen im Gegensatz zu den 100-Kilometer-Touristen zwischen 05:30 bis 06:30 Uhr wegen der Sonne auf, um nicht "gebraten" zu werden.

Wenn man dann um 07:30 mal die Augen auf macht, weil der Herbergsvater den Lichtschalter drückt und nicht schon die anderen Pilger, dann müsste ich noch wach werden, das Bett abziehen, auf die Toilette, das Wasser nachfüllen, den Rucksack samt Schlafsack nun nachpacken, die Füße mal eben überprüfen, die Schuhe ordentlich binden... da wäre es schon 08:00 Uhr... mindestens... Das ist normaler Weise der Zeitraum, wo ich als Pilger die Herberge verlassen haben sollte, wenn ich keinen wirklich guten Grund habe, wie z.B. fertig gepackt ein Butterbot zu Essen und einen Tee zu trinken, ohne Müll zu machen und die Reinigungs-Crew zu stören....!

Und auch das im Sinne von Energiesparen irgendwann abends einmal das Vorhaltewasser herunter gedreht wird, ist absolut normal: Nett, wenn man das überhaupt gesagt bekommt!
Wasser und Energie ist kostbar -
lauft mal auf dem Plata, oder den Portugués ---
aber ab Lissabon....
Da kann man froh sein, wenn es überhaupt abends eine Dusche gibt; geschweige denn, eine warme...

Das ist ein Pilger-Betrieb! "Virgen de Guadalupe" und nicht das "Madonna Hilton"...! Mit den Vorstellungen die hier einige haben, sollte man dann vielleicht auch ein HOTEL zu entsprechenden Preisen buchen, oder reicht dafür das Geld dann nicht?
Selbst da müsste man den Hund zumindest anmelden und für den Late-Checkout extra bezahlen...
